2 15-2 Changng PC port settngs PC port settngs for all operatng systems Ths secton descrbes how to confgure ports. See the nformaton that accompanes your PC for detals about changng the BIOS settngs. Confgurng the ECP parallel port For most PCs, the parallel port s confgured as an ECP parallel port n the PC's BIOS. The followng apples to some PCs and to the Wndows 2000, Wndows XP, Wndows Me, Wndows 98, and Wndows NT operatng systems. 1 Close all open applcatons. 2 Reboot the PC. Observe the screen for nstructons on enterng Setup. 3 Enter Setup and follow the nstructons that dsplay early n the reboot sequence. The setup screen wll appear. 4 In Setup, check to see that the Parallel Port Mode feld s set to ECP. If t s not, set t to ECP. If the PC has more than one parallel port, make sure you check the settng for the parallel port to whch the prnter s attached (LPT1 or LPT2). An ECP port s requred for the prnter to operate at ts maxmum processng speed. The prnter wll operate n compatble or IBM AT mode; however, the prnter mght not operate as fast or communcaton messages mght appear. 5 Save the settng and ext Setup, followng the nstructons n the Setup screen. Contnue wth the Set port values procedure for your operatng system. Settng up two ECP parallel ports 1 Follow the nstructons provded wth the port to nstall t and set the jumpers. Record the jumper settngs. The jumper settngs must match the settngs you choose n the Resources tab. 2 Rght-clck on the My Computer con on the desktop and then choose Propertes from the popup menu. The System Propertes dalog box appears. 3 Choose the Devce Manager tab to vew a lst of devces. (On Wndows 2000 and Wndows XP, choose the Hardware tab and then clck the Devce Manager button.) 4 Choose Vew devces by type f needed.

3 Changng PC port settngs Clck the + next to Ports (COM and LPT) to dsplay the port entres. Usually the second nstalled port s LPT2. 6 Clck Prnter Port (LPT2), or other entry for the nstalled port, and then choose the Propertes button. The Prnter Port (LPT2) Propertes dalog box appears. 7 Clck the Resources tab. Make sure that Use automatc settngs s not chosen. The Conflctng devce lst should show No conflcts. If you are usng a DMA channel for the second prnter, the Resources settngs lst should show Drect Memory Access and ts channel settng. Fgure 15-1: Prnter Port (LPT) Propertes dalog box If the Resources tab shows conflcts, choose another confguraton or change the settngs for the port, followng port nstructons. 8 Clck OK on the Prnter Port (LPT2) Propertes dalog box and on the System Propertes dalog box to save settngs and close the dalog boxes. If you nstall the second parallel port and receve Wndows errors, or f the prnter does not prnt relably (wthout dsplayng errors), the port mght have an unresolved hardware conflct. Contact the port manufacturer or the PC manufacturer f you need assstance.

4 15-4 Changng PC port settngs PC settngs for Wndows 2000, XP & NT 4.0 Ths secton descrbes the followng for PCs runnng Wndows 2000, XP, or NT 4.0. Settng parallel port values Settng seral port values Settng parallel port values Port values nclude the port to whch the prnter s assgned, the communcaton mode for the port, and prnter spoolng. Settng parallel port values for Wndows 2000, XP & NT 1 From the Wndows taskbar choose Start, Settngs, and then Prnters (Prnters and Faxes for Wndows XP). The Prnters (and Faxes) wndow appears. 2 Hghlght the SmartDrver con by clckng on t once. 3 From the menu bar, choose Fle and then Propertes. The Propertes dalog box for the SmartDrver appears. 4 Choose the Ports tab. 5 Make sure the correct port (usually LPT1) s chosen n the Port lst. SmartDrver should appear n the Prnter column for the checked port. 6 Make sure that "Enable Bdrectonal Support" s checked. Do not choose "Enable Prnter Poolng." To set up a prnter pool on Wndows 2000 or XP, see Advanced nformaton on page Choose OK to save the settngs and close the Propertes wndow. 8 Close the Prnters wndow. 9 On Wndows NT, settngs are complete. On Wndows 2000 and XP, contnue wth step Rght-clck on the My Computer con on the desktop and then choose Propertes from the popup menu. The System Propertes dalog box appears. 11 Choose the Hardware tab and then clck the Devce Manager button. 12 Clck the + next to Ports (COM and LPT) to dsplay the port entres. 13 Rght-clck Prnter Port (LPT1) (or the entry for the parallel port) and then choose the Propertes button. The Prnter Port (LPT1) Propertes dalog box appears. 14 Clck the Port Settngs tab. 15 In the Flter Resource Method box, choose "Use any nterrupt assgned to the port."

5 Changng PC port settngs Clck OK on the Prnter Port (LPT1) Propertes dalog box and on the System Propertes dalog box to save settngs and close the dalog boxes. Settng a smart card seral port Wndows 2000, XP, and NT For some smart card applcatons, you connect the PC to the prnter s smart card seral port. The PC should be set to match the prnter s smart card seral port settngs. Ths secton descrbes how to set the PC seral port n the Wndows 2000, Wndows XP, or Wndows NT 4.0 operatng systems. These settngs apply to seral ports for both contact and contactless smart card modules. If you use a contact staton wth the prnter, see the nformaton about the contact staton for port settngs. Settng the seral port on Wndows 2000 and NT 1 From the Control Panel, choose Ports. 2 From the Ports dalog box, choose the port, such as COM1 or COM2. If the PC has more than one seral port, make sure you vew the settngs for the seral port to whch the smart card module s attached.

7 Changng PC port settngs 15-7 Settng the seral port on Wndows XP 1 From the Start menu, choose Settngs and then Control Panel. 2 From the Control Panel, choose the System con. 3 Choose the Hardware tab, and then choose the Devce Manager button. 4 Press the "+" next to Ports and double clck the Communcatons Port to open the Communcatons Port Propertes dalog box. Verfyng port assgnment and settngs for Wndows Me & 98 1 From the Wndows taskbar choose Start, Settngs, and then Prnters. The Prnters wndow appears. 2 Hghlght the SmartDrver con by clckng on t once. 3 From the menu bar, choose Fle and then Propertes. The SmartDrver Propertes wndow appears. 4 Choose the Detals tab and vew the port n the Prnt to the Followng Port lst. Make sure ths s the ECP parallel port. 5 Clck Spool Settngs to dsplay the Spool Settngs dalog. 6 Make sure that Enable Bdrectonal Support s checked. Also make sure that Spool Prnt Jobs so Program Fnshes Prntng Faster s checked. 7 Choose OK to save the settngs and close the Spool Settngs dalog. 8 Choose OK to save the settngs and close the Propertes dalog box. 9 Close the Prnters wndow. Verfyng the communcaton mode for Wndows Me and 98 1 From the Wndows taskbar, choose Start, Settngs, and then Control Panel. The Control Panel wndow appears. 2 Double-clck the System con. The System Propertes dalog box appears. 3 Choose the Devce Manager tab. 4 Make sure Vew Devces by Type s chosen. 5 Clck the Plus sgn + next to Ports (COM & LPT) to show the avalable ports. The lst should nclude an entry such as "ECP Prnter port (LPT1)." 6 Clck the entry for the port to whch the prnter s assgned (such as LPT1 or LPT2).

9 Changng PC port settngs Choose the Propertes button to dsplay the Propertes dalog box. 8 Choose the Drver tab, and then Choose the Update Drver button to dsplay the Select Devce dalog box. 9 Make sure "Show all devces" s chosen. 10 In the Manufacturers lst, choose (Standard port types). In the Models lst, choose ECP Prnter Port, f avalable. 11 Choose OK or Close on each wndow to select the choce and close the wndow. If the Verson Conflct dalog box appears, choose Yes to keep the exstng verson. 12 Choose OK to close the System dalog box and make the changes take effect. Settng a smart card port for Wndows Me & 98 For some smart card applcatons, you connect the PC to the seral port on the ImageCard IV prnter. The PC should be set to match the prnter seral port settngs. Ths secton descrbes how to set the PC seral port n the Wndows 98 and Wndows Me operatng systems. These settngs apply to seral ports for both contact and contactless smart card modules. If you use a contact staton wth the prnter, see the nformaton about the contact staton for port settngs.
