For example, n the mage above, locate the user s V model number and drag over nputs Vdeo 1-6 nto a oggle macro. ow when the oggle macro button s pressed, the button wll cycle through each of the vdeo nputs. ommon uses for toggle macros are: aspect rato nputs surround modes 23

ppendx: xamples of ommon acros omplete ontrol oble rogrammng anual for X- rogrammng a ower n acro Before programmng a ower n macro, set up your laptop wth the connected remote wthn operatonal range of the home audo vdeo equpment. ower n macros usually requre extensve testng of delays and you can expect to do a lot of expermentng. ake a look at the an page(s) and decde whch components you want to power on. 1 elect the ystem ower n button on the an page. (reate a ower n button f necessary.) 2 lck on the ecord con. 3 avgate to each devce and add ther ower n commands to the lst by navgatng to the devce and page where the codes are located and clckng on the buttons wth the ower n commands. elect the devce by clckng ts button on the an menu or by clckng on an expanded tree vew page. 4 ow, clck on the button wth the devce s ower n command. he new step appears n the acro wndow. 5 fter addng all of the chosen ower n commands, re-arrange them as desred by clckng and draggng them nto whatever order you want. 6 sk the clent what they thnk they wll watch most often (V, satellte, V, etc.). rogram steps to select the correct V and ecever nput for that actvty. n ths example, both the televson and the recever have dscrete nput codes and the clent s favored actvty s watchng atellte. elect the cvr by clckng ts button on the an menu. ow, clck on the button wth the nput command. he new step appears n the lst. 7 elect the V by clckng ts button on the an menu. ow, clck on the button wth the correct nput command. he new step appears n the lst. ress the top button to stop recordng alases. 8 ptonal - rogram a jump to the evce and age they use for ther favorte actvty. lck on the Jump con. elect the correct devce and page from the Jump wndow. he jump appears n the acro wndow n the column under Jump. X - / H 24

omplete ontrol oble rogrammng anual for X- U 9 Frst, turn the V and the ecever to the wrong nput, then turn off everythng n the theater. ont the connected X- at the system. elect the frst step n the lst by clckng on t. ow, clck on the est button. bserve the televson and the recever. d they both swtch to the correct nput? 10 rogrammng addtonal delay n the macro s sometmes necessary. ach macro step usually takes some tme, so there may be enough bult n delay for the televson and the recever to both be fully actve by the tme the nput commands are sent. ometmes the component s not fully awake. t s fashonable for many modern televsons and recevers to requre 5 or more seconds of warm up tme before they are responsve to new commands. n a case lke that, you wll need to add more delay between steps. 11 elect the elay con. ow, clck on the preset amount of delay or enter any tme between.1 second and 30 seconds n the delay settng wndow. 12 he new step appears n the lst. ow, drag the delay step to the correct locaton. ometmes a change n order can provde the delay you need. 13 gan, turn the V and the ecever to the wrong nput, then turn off everythng n the theater. ont the connected X- at the system. elect the frst step n the lst by clckng on t. ow, clck on the est button. bserve the televson and the recever. d they both swtch to the correct nput? ontnue to revse the macro wth delays or changes n order and test untl the macro LWY correctly turns everythng on and swtches the surround sound recever and televson to the correct nput. When the macro s perfect, clck on the ave n the Fle enu. 25

rogrammng a ower ff acro omplete ontrol oble rogrammng anual for X- ower ff macro s much smpler than a ower n macro, snce there are rarely any delays to test, etc. Usually, to gve the clent some feedback that the macro s workng, the V s turned off frst. When you are forced to use a workaround for a V player or V wthout a dscrete off command, you wll make the macro more relable f you place the tme consumng anchor (the play command) at the begnnng. ake sure to turn off the V player before testng ths knd of workaround. You are testng the worst case, you know that a toggle type power command wll turn the V player off, you are concerned about an event that mght happen. he V player s already off, but the clent presses the ower ff to turn everythng else on. f you only programmed a toggle ower command, everythng else would turn off, but the V player would turn on. hs workaround ensures that the V player turns off. rogrammng ctvty acros on age L evce Buttons n ctvty acro s typcally programmed to be as fast as possble. hey smply select the correct nput on both the televson and the surround sound recever, snce all the components have already been powered on by the ower n macro. here s no need to program a JU to a page n a evce button created by reate and ame evces. hey are automatcally programmed to JU to the evce. ometmes actvty macros wll share the same nput settngs. Here, a V player doubles as a player. he programmer has coped the V devce, named t, so that there are two dentcal devces (wth the same V player codes). he only dfference between them s the ctvty acros you see below. he V ctvty acro selects HX urround ound wth 5 speakers wth the V on, whle the ctvty selects tereo wth 4 speakers and forces the V off. For components that have play commands t s typcally ok to have a lay command n the macro. Watch out for components wth toggle type play/pause buttons. hat knd of lay/ause command should not be placed n an ctvty acro wthout a precedng top command, to make sure that the toggle can only play the component! ne V layer - wo evces and wo ctvty acros V ctvty acro ctvty acro X - / H ote how the programmer s usng the same V nput on the surround sound recever for both actvtes, the macro smply changes the surround sound settngs. on t V U, make sure that every step s truly useful! 26

omplete ontrol oble rogrammng anual for X- Usng Varables for evces that have ower oggle U he key to usng ths technque s relable communcaton between the X- and the X Base taton. hs s typcally used to track ower devces that do not have dscrete power commands (.e. toggle-only). Fundamentally, you are gong to program the X- devce to track whether the component (a able Box n ths example) s n or ff, and only ssue the toggle type ower command when needed. ote: he system can easly get out of sync f the clent turns on the V wth another remote control or manually. 1 pen the able Box ower page. 2 lck on the able Box ower n button frst. 3 n the acro wndow, clck on the Varable con button. 4 he cton Varable ettng wndow opens up. 27

omplete ontrol oble rogrammng anual for X- 5 lck on the dd ew varable button. 6 he dd Varable wndow opens up. ype able V n n the name feld and gve the new varable a value of rue n our example, and then clck K.. 7 ext, go back to the acro wndow and clck on the F/L con to add as a macro step. 8 ouble clck on the F (rue) lne of the F /lse statement to open the f ettng wndow. elect Varable to open the Varable mode vew. Hghlght able V n n the varable lst, clck on the False rado button and then clck on the K button. X - / H 28

omplete ontrol oble rogrammng anual for X- U 9 Use the exstng ower command and the new varable you just created to buld the F / lse statement: f, the <able V ower n> s FL (Whch means the able Box s turned ff), ssue the able V ower command to turn t n, lse, do nothng (Leave the lse secton blank). hen add the able V n varable as another macro step and change the state to rue, (Because the able Box has been turned n). ow let s set up the able Box ower ff button. 10 lck on the able Box ower ff button. 11 n the acro wndow, clck on the F/L con. 12 Use the exstng ower command and the new varable you just created to buld the F / lse statement: f, the <able V ower n> s rue, (Whch means the able Box s turned n), ssue the able V ower command to turn t ff, lse, do nothng (Leave the lse secton blank). hen add the able V n varable as another macro step and change the state to False, (Because the able Box has been turned ff). You ve essentally created a dscreet ower n and ower ff buttons for the able Box that track ther state. rogram all buttons you want to turn the able Box on, wth the able ower n button. rogram the ystem ff button to turn the able box off wth the able ower ff button. 29
