1 NELSON McINTYRE COLLEGIATE AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS AWARD: The Greg Selinger Member of the Legislative Assembly Award The Greg Selinger Member of the Legislative Assembly Award is presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated leadership capabilities at school through involvement in student activities and in the community. This student has also maintained a consistent academic average. AWARD: The Shelly Glover Award for Outstanding Leadership in Volunteerism The Raymond Simard Student Leadership Award is presented to a graduating student who has combined high academic achievement with involvement in student and community activities. AWARD: The Norwood Community Scholarship Foundation Award The Norwood Community Scholarship Foundation Award is presented to a graduating student who resides in the Norwood Community, has achieved a high academic standing, and will be continuing their educational studies at the post-secondary level. These awards are selected by the Norwood Community Foundation Committee. AWARD: The Ron Parkinson Scholarship The Ron Parkinson Scholarship is presented to a graduate who is entering Red River Community College, has achieved a high academic standing, and has made contributions to the school. AWARD: Nelson McIntyre Collegiate Bursaries The Nelson McIntyre Collegiate Scholarships are presented to graduating students who exemplify what student life at Nelson McIntyre can be. This can be demonstrated through academic achievement, contributions to school life and in personal growth. This fund has been provided by an anonymous donor. These bursaries are awarded to students who will pursue post-secondary education. (University, Community College, Apprenticeship Programs) AWARD: Frank P. Kennedy Award The Frank P. Kennedy Scholarship is presented to the graduating student who has demonstrated the most improvement during their high school career.
2 AWARD: The Robert M. MacDonald Rotary Award The Robert B. MacDonald Award is presented to a graduating student who has been active in school/community athletics, and has maintained a good academic standing. AWARD: Denise Cliteur Humanitarian Award The Denise Cliteur Humanitarian Award is presented to a Nelson McIntyre graduate who has demonstrated perseverance in order to complete their high school education. AWARD: The University of Toronto Book Award The University of Toronto Book Award is presented to a Nelson McIntyre graduate who has demonstrated exceptional achievement in a broad context. The individual has demonstrated originality and creativity. AWARD: The Louis Riel School Division Legacy Scholarship The Louis Riel School Division Legacy Scholarship is awarded to a student who has maintained a high academic standing throughout their high school career and has earned the highest academic average of all students based on their grade 11 and 12 courses. This individual has shown an outstanding work ethic, is socially responsible and caring, and displays good initiative, motivation, and integrity on a consistent basis. The Governor General s Bronze Medal is awarded along with the Legacy Scholarship. AWARD: The Charles Gray Chown Award The Charles Gray Chown Award is presented to a graduating student who is entering the University of Manitoba. This student has maintained high academic standards (above 85%) throughout his/her years at Nelson McIntyre. It is awarded to the best all-around student who has maintained this average. AWARD: Nelson McIntyre Collegiate Alumni Award The Alumni Award is presented to a graduating student who lives within the boundary of the former Norwood School Division, has maintained a good academic standing, and has made a significant contribution to school life. AWARD: The Riverside Lionelles Jessie Hunt Memorial Award The Riverside Lionelles Jessie Hunt memorial Award is presented to a Nelson McIntyre graduate who demonstrates academic potential. The student must be going on to University or College. The student must have financial need.
3 AWARD: The Louis Riel Teachers Association Scholarship The Louis Riel Teachers Association Scholarship is presented to a graduating student who possesses good communication and interpersonal skills and has maintained a high academic standing. Ideally, this scholarship should be going to a student pursuing Education as a career. AWARD: The Louis Riel School Division French Scholarship The Louis Riel School Division French Scholarship is awarded to the graduating student who achieves the highest standing in French 40S. Ms. Stechesen will inform the scholarship committee who the successful candidate is. AWARD: The Ken Dryborough Scholarship The Ken Dryborough Scholarship is presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated excellence in English. Ideally the student will pursue studies in journalism or a related field. The English Department will determine the winner for this award. AWARD: International Student Award for Outstanding Achievement This award is presented to a graduating International Student. This is at the discretion of the International Program Coordinator. AWARD: William Walkden Scholarship The William Walkden Scholarship is presented to a graduating student who achieves a high academic standing, excels in school sports and is continuing their education at the post-secondary level. The scholarship winner is decided by the Norwood Community Foundation Committee. AWARD: The Jeffrey Rock Spencer Memorial Scholarship The Jeffrey Rock Spencer Memorial Scholarship is presented to a Nelson McIntyre Graduate that achieves a high academic standing, is an all-around positive person and is enrolled in post-secondary studies. AWARD: The Dr. Joseph Anderson Scholarship This scholarship is intended for students who have excelled in the sciences and plan to further their education in a science related field. Along with the scholarship application form, students applying for this scholarship must submit a letter indicating their accomplishments while at high school and their future plans. A separate application letter is necessary to apply for this scholarship.
4 AWARD: The Alan Dick Scholarship The Alan Dick Scholarship was established by the Real Estate Institute of Manitoba in honour of Alan Dick, one of its founding Directors and its first Chair. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving student from Nelson McIntyre Collegiate who will benefit from the support it offers to pursue post-secondary education in his or her chosen field. A separate application letter is necessary to apply for this scholarship. AWARD: The Alexander G. Boyes Scholarship The Alexander G. Boyes Scholarship is presented to a graduating student who maintains an academic average of 80% or higher during their graduating year, is enrolled for postsecondary studies, and has demonstrated good citizenship. The recipient must also have attended Nelson McIntyre Collegiate for a minimum of 2 years. This scholarship is presented to a student interested in pursuing a career in drama, writing, art, music, dance, theatre, or performing arts; or a female student pursuing a career in science, math, engineering, medicine, veterinary science, computer science, architecture, or commerce. AWARD: Marlene Leclair Scholarship The Marlene Leclair Scholarship is presented to a graduating student who has demonstrated the following: Being respectful of others A positive attitude even when faced with adversity Always offering help Promotes a climate of respect Plans to continue studies at the post-secondary level AWARD: The Partners in Education Scholarship for Red River College The Partners in Education Scholarship is presented to one graduate in each high school in Manitoba, who has achieved a good academic standing, has been involved in school activities, and is enrolled to attend Red River College. AWARD: The Winnipeg Technical College Award The Winnipeg Technical College Award is presented to a graduating student who will be pursuing further training at Winnipeg Technical College. AWARD: Notre Dame Community Centre Scholarship The Notre Dame Community Centre Scholarship will be presented to a graduating student who resides near the Notre Dame Community Centre. This student has achieved a good academic standing and has been involved in school and community activities.
5 AWARD: Norwood Community Centre Scholarship The Norwood Community Centre Scholarship will be presented to a graduating student who resides near the Norwood Community Centre. This student has achieved a good academic standing and has been involved in school and community activities. AWARD: The St. Vital/St. Boniface/Norwood Retired Teachers and Support Staff Association (Riel Chapter) Bursary The St. Vital/St. Boniface/Norwood Retired Teachers and Support Staff Association (Riel Chapter) Bursary is presented to a graduating student who has given their time to their school and community while achieving individual academic success. This bursary is given to the recipient at the beginning of their second term of studies at the Postsecondary level. AWARD: The Louis Riel School Division Educational Assistants CUPE 3473 Scholarship The Louis Riel School Division Educational Assistants CUPE 3473 Scholarship is presented to a graduating student who has been selected by the Educational Assistants at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate. A scholarship application does not necessarily need to be submitted for this scholarship. AWARD: The Neiles Family Scholarship The Neiles Family Scholarship is presented to a graduating student who has had good academic performance, community volunteerism, athletic contribution and overall school spirit. Recipients must be accepted to a Post-secondary Institution. AWARD: The Peter Gustavson Scholarships The Peter Gustavson Scholarships are presented to students who have excelled in their academic studies, have an interest in Business and plan to further their education at the University of Manitoba s Asper School of Business or at in the Business Faculty at the University of Victoria. AWARD: The Governor General s Bronze Medal Award The Governor General s Academic Medal was first awarded in 1873 by the Earl of Dufferin, and has since become one of the most prestigious awards that a student in a Canadian educational institution can receive. The Secondary School Bronze Medal is awarded to the student who has achieved the highest average upon graduation from high school. This average includes University approved Senior 3 and Senior 4 courses. The Louis Riel School Division Legacy Scholarship is awarded along with the Governor General s Bronze Medal. The winner will be determined by the same criteria as the Legacy Scholarship.
