4 Examples of solutions for the tunneling industry Zurich/Switzerland, Cross-City Link: Global expertize for local solutions The Cross-City Link in Zurich is the biggest inner-city building site in Switzerland. Bridges, a new underground station and approximately five kilometers of tunnel are under construction, accelerating connections between West and East Switzerland. Holcim services Site preparation and relocation/ removal of various existing structures such as bridges or rock plugs Relocation of 2.3 million m 3 excavation material (mucking) Operation of an on-site RMX plant to supply 370,000 m 3 for tunnel lining and shotcrete Supply of 150,000 t cementitious materials for RMX production Supply of cement to grouting and pre-cast subcontractors Metro Tunnel, Metro line B, Lyon/France: In between cut-and-cover and bored tunnel The tunnel with an inside diameter of 8.35 meters stretches 1.3 kilometers, passing underneath the Rhône at a maximum depth of 15 meters below the river bed before going further under the Saulaie district to reach Oulins station.
