2 W ithout good roots, a plant can t grow.. As a market gardener s son, planting and harvesting crops is something I grew up with from a young age. We were growing celery and parsley when, in 1995, we were asked if we could also grow other fresh herbs, such as dill, coriander and thyme. Back then, the fresh herb market consisted only of potted herbs. It soon became clear that there was a market for fresh cut herbs. To make the most of this business opportunity, I began packing cut herbs for both the retail and catering industries; think, for example, of the 15-0 gram packs for the supermarkets and the gram packs for the catering industry. Moreover, packing herbs has the added benefit of prolonging shelf life. This proved successful and demand for a wider variety of pre-packed herbs grew. In no time, we expanded our assortment to 0 herb varieties, all year round. In addition, we offer over 0 special herb varieties in the summer season. In order to be able to supply herbs to our customers all year round, we started expanding our production abroad. Besides our Dutch production, we now work with a group of 15 permanent growers in different countries, who grow herbs for us in a sustainable way. Production control and supervision is in our hands, which is the only way to guarantee the supply of a quality product all year round. We only sow and plant to customer demand and are constantly looking for new varieties. Because we, as a grower, pack our own products, you can buy directly from the source! In addition to a complete assortment of herbs, we offer an extensive assortment of baby leaf salads. Choose your own mix, we can supply any mix you like, washed or unwashed, from 75 gram packs to 5 kilo packs, anything goes. Edible flowers are also part of our product assortment. Grown sustainably, they add exquisite flavour and a beautiful finishing touch to any dessert or salad. Our products are supplied all over Europe, to both the retail and wholesale catering industries. 7 Use: in cooked sauces and all tomato dishes or as garnish. Chives 1 Chives have become a very popular herb in recent years. Their strong smell and flavour is very similar to onions. In the kitchen, this herb is used mainly in cold dishes; think salads, herb butter, sandwich fillings and egg dishes. When you cook, pan-fry or deep-fry chives, the herb loses its flavour so it is best to add it to a cooked dish at the very end. The storage temperature of chives is - 6 degrees. 8 1 Majoram Use: season haricot beans, potato dishes, sauerkraut, minced meat, pork, meat pies, game and poultry. Flavour: an intense aroma. 1 Tarragon Use: a herb known as a popular ingredient in traditional (French) cuisine, in particular. Flavour: bitter, peppery aniseed flavour. Lovage Use: leaves are used in stews, salads, sauces and soups. Flavour: celery-like flavour. 1. Dill. Coriander. Tarragon. Garlic chives 1. Bay leafs. Majoram. Chervil. 9 Mint Say mint and most people will think of fresh mint tea, but this delicious, fresh herb can be used to add flavour to a wide variety of dishes: fruit, salads, desserts, as well as lamb and various vegetables, like peas or cucumber. Try adding some mint to mayonnaise or yoghurt sauce, it will really enhance the flavour! The storage temperature of mint is - 6 degrees. Sage Use: imostly in cooked dishes or added to milk (sage milk). Flavour: strongly aromatic. 1 Celery Use: in refreshing dishes or dips; cook with other ingredients or stir-fry. 10 Lemon thyme Use: the small leaves add delicious flavour to stews. Flavour: very aromatic. 1 Rosemary Rosemary is a very popular ingredient in Mediterranean dishes, it is used to season lamb, game, marinades, as well as tomato, potato and mushroom dishes. Rosemary can be added early on in the cooking process as this really brings out its flavour. You don t need to use much, rosemary has a strong, intense flavour. 11 1 S pecial herbs We have special compartments in the greenhouse which are dedicated to exceptional crops. We work this soil in the winter months and then sow and plant. As soon as sunlight and warmth hit the greenhouse, everything bursts to life. The result is glorious. The fresh flavours and aromas of these herbs are much more pronounced! The following pages present a selection of our extensive assortment of exceptional and special herbs. Curly- and flat leaf parsley Use: curly leaf parsley is mostly used as garnish, flat leaf parsley is also used in crisp salads. 14 1 Borage flowers Borage flowers are colourful flowers. Their cheerful appearance not only adds a must-have finishing touch to desserts, cakes or champagne, but they also taste delicious. Borage leaves have a fresh cucumber-like flavour. The leaves are available all year round, the flowers only in the summer season, they are grown in our own Dutch greenhouse. 1. Capucine flower. 15 1 Babyleafs In 005, we added babyleaf salads to our assortment. Mixed with herbs, these fine salads create a refreshing combination. In the summer season, 80% of our assortment is Dutch grown; in the winter, we supply salads from our Italian and French growers. We provide washed or unwashed babyleaf salads, in a range of packaging, with or without tray. 17 1 P roduction process Our products are grown according to GLOBAL G.A.P. standards. By controlling and supervising the cultivation process of our growers, from sowing to harvesting, we are able to provide a sustainable product. 5 Another major part of our business, besides cultivation, is the production process. We pack herbs for supermarkets, the catering and fresh cut food industries. Our packing station is BRC high-level certified and we can pack herbs to the customer s specification. Our machinery consists of flow pack machines (horizontal and vertical) and seal and top seal machines.
