2 Intro [ What is Executive Presence and how do you get it? ] We know it when we see it, yet understanding how it s created and developing it can be difficult. Increasingly, effective leadership is being defined by elements such as emotional intelligence, authenticity, credibility and personal grounding. The leader s ability to connect with and inspire people are the critical outcomes that define outstanding executive success. Beyond the critical components of day to day communication, we ve defined Executive Presence as: An authentic quality of poise and effectiveness that enables an executive to connect with a range of people and influence successful outcomes. Through our research and experience, we ve identified the critical Dimensions that need to come together to create Executive Presence (EP), and what we call The Integrated Executive. Half of these Dimensions are intrinsic to the person and, therefore, intrapersonal in nature. The remaining Dimensions are more directly pertinent to the experience others have with the executive, thus positioned as interpersonal in nature. We believe that the Dimensions are interrelated, at times supporting each other, and at other times detracting. Therefore, all have to be considered as an integral system when assessing for and intervening to accelerate and build Presence in an executive. The Accelerating Executive Presence (AEP) Experience has been designed to rapidly develop these critical Dimensions in participants attending. 3 The AEP Program Experiences Since 2009, executives from a diverse array of companies and sectors have experienced and benefited from AEP. From 2014, there will be three unique programs to help executives and high potentials develop a greater sense of presence, using a proven action learning model. AEP Senior Leader A Five Day program for Senior Leaders with established careers 1 2 AEP High Potential A Three & a Half Day program for emerging, High Potential executives 3 AEP Advanced A Two Day program for past graduates, with a focus on Inspiring Communication Enrolment in each AEP Experience is limited to a small number of participants to ensure deep learning and reflection and to allow for meaningful coaching from the facilitators and peers. The programs are conducted multiple times a year in both Sydney and Auckland and now in 2014, we celebrate the launch of our first Senior Leader Program in Singapore. A unique learning environment is created where participants are encouraged to be vulnerable with each other, alternating between various roles (actor, assessor, coach, learning partners). Participants are encouraged to challenge themselves and broaden their thinking, receiving in the process direct and personal feedback from highly capable and experienced facilitators. There is extensive use of role playing, videotaping, and continuous feedback, with ample periods of time devoted to personal reflection. 3

4 ACCELERATING EXECUTIVE PRESENCE (AEP) High Potential Program The AEP High Potential Program is the beginning of the AEP journey. Over a 3.5 Day Live-in experience, the AEP High Potential Program has been designed for up to ten high potential participants to rapidly develop their Executive Presence. Through our research and experience of working with senior leaders on their executive presence, we ve identified the six critical Dimensions that need to come together to create effective executive presence in emerging, high potential executives. Intrapersonal Interpersonal The Six Dimensions of Executive Presence The Six Dimensions of Executive Presence are presented, discussed, learnt and developed throughout the AEP High Potential Program. It begins by building an awareness and insight into Three Intrapersonal Dimensions: 1 SELF-AWARENESS 2 SELF-CONFIDENCE 3 AUTHENTICITY These three Dimensions are the building blocks on which the Interpersonal Dimensions are created: 4 positive image 5 communicative 6 credibility THE AEP High Potential Experience We ve designed an intensive, challenging and unique experience to help younger, high-potential executives transform their executive presence using our proven action learning model. A unique learning environment is created where participants are encouraged to be vulnerable with each other, alternating between various roles (actor, assessor, coach, learning partners). Participants are encouraged to challenge themselves and broaden their thinking, receiving in the process direct and personal feedback from highly capable and experienced facilitators. Each publicly enrolled program will be limited to ten people. Who should attend? The AEP High Potential Program is designed for year old high potential executives who are seeking to deepen their self awareness and looking for strategies and tools to improve their Executive Presence and leadership effectiveness in general. Creating awareness of one s thoughts, self image and persona at this early age and stage can be a powerful platform for further executive success and personal fulfilment. Pre work Pre-work will consist of participants completing the AEP High Potential 360 feedback survey and some pre-reading. Participants will also be required to bring actual presentations and real world issues to work on through in coaching sessions during the program. 5 ACCELERATING EXECUTIVE PRESENCE (AEP) Senior Leader Program The AEP Senior Leader Program is designed for senior leaders who are in roles of significant influence and who want a unique learning experience that enables them to understand and apply the dimensions of executive presence. What differentiates AEP from other leadership programs is a concentrated focus on the essence of executive presence the confluence of four intrapersonal and four interpersonal dimensions that enable senior leaders to magnify the impact of their influence toward successful outcomes. Intrapersonal Interpersonal THE AEP Senior Leader Experience Enrolment in each AEP Senior Leader experience is limited to eight (8) executives, capped at this number to ensure deep learning and reflection and to allow for meaningful coaching from the lead facilitators, adjunct coaches and peers. The Eight Dimensions of Executive Presence are presented, discussed, learnt and developed throughout the AEP Senior Leader Program. It begins by building an awareness and insight into Four Intrapersonal Dimensions: 1 SELF-AWARENESS 2 personal grounding 3 SELF-CONFIDENCE 4 AUTHENTICITY These four Dimensions are the building blocks on which the Interpersonal Dimensions are created: 5 positive image 6 vitality 7 communicative 8 credibility Across five intensive days, a unique learning environment is created where participants are encouraged to be vulnerable with each other, alternating between various roles (actor, assessor, coach, learning partners). Our adjunct faculty includes an expert on ethics, an acting director, an image consultant, a physician who specialises in executive wellness and a fitness coach. Who should attend? The AEP Senior Leader Program is designed for executives who are in roles of significant influence, typically those with at least years of management experience (ideally 35 years or older). Ideally, participants are able to get 360 feedback from a pool of direct reports, peers, a manager and any other stakeholders who can provide feedback on their leadership effectiveness as measured by our dimensions of executive presence. Pre Work Pre-work will consist of participants and designated raters completing a career inventory, the AEP Senior Leader 360 feedback survey which focuses on the eight dimensions of our AEP model, as well as a few other requirements related to presentations and scenarios that will be covered during the program. 6 ACCELERATING EXECUTIVE PRESENCE (AEP) Advanced Program The AEP Advanced Program is designed for senior leaders who have attended the AEP Senior Leader Program. The Advanced program focuses primarily on the Communicative dimension of the AEP model, providing intensive practice with tools and techniques to enhance a senior leader s ability to connect with an audience and to make key messages more compelling and inspiring. The Advanced Program also provides key insights and tools on influence skills, enabling participants the opportunity to practice various influence strategies pertinent to real time scenarios. THE AEP Advanced Experience The AEP Advanced experience will replicate our action learning model over the course of two days, working in a cohort of six (6) senior leaders, led by an AEP coach and an experienced acting director who works extensively with executives in corporate settings. A unique learning environment is created where participants are encouraged to be vulnerable, push themselves to test new styles and approaches and to apply their learning to upcoming real time challenges back on the job. While the eight dimensions of executive presence are inherent in the Advanced program, the primary focus is on enhancing the interpersonal dimension of being a skilled communicator simplicity of message, being able to tailor a message to the intended audience, learn the art of story-telling and how to motivate and inspire an audience toward action. In addition, roles plays have been designed to apply and test specific influence strategies intended to bring about successful outcomes. Who should attend? The AEP Advanced Program is designed for senior leaders who have completed the AEP Senior Leader Program, typically those with at least years of management experience (ideally 35 years or older). We will make exceptions for those senior leaders who have not attended the AEP Senior Leader Program, but have attended a similar program with an emphasis on both the intrapersonal and interpersonal dimensions of executive presence. Pre Work Pre-work will consist of participants and designated raters completing a short 360 feedback survey which focuses specifically on the interpersonal dimensions of our AEP model. Participants will also be required to bring actual presentations and real world issues requiring application of influence skills to work on in coaching sessions during the program. A pre-read article on the art of story-telling is also provided. Program Dates & Fees Please refer to page 10 of this prospectus for the 2014 Program Dates & Fees for the AEP Advanced programs. 7 Real change will begin at the AEP Experience Over the time spent at any of the AEP Experiences, and through effective application of the techniques we employ, participants will begin a deep and lasting process of personal transformation and the shaping of the desired persona can occur. Participants have a mirror held up to them and can really see themselves as others see them, with the facilitators helping to reshape their Executive Presence. Beyond the program, participants will emerge with a personal development plan with re-entry tactics to ensure the momentum continues and changes become habitual. The AEP Programs are consciously different to other executive development programs, in that: They are beyond Leadership Development programs, as they deal with critical issues of how to develop an ethical framework (or a moral compass) that creates true authenticity and therefore credibility in the eyes of followers They are beyond Presentation Skills programs as they deals with the foundation of what makes someone an effective presenter that is, self-awareness, selfconfidence and a set of personal values They are beyond Emotional Intelligence programs as they develop real, practical techniques in understanding others, developing empathy and self awareness that are the foundations for getting on with and influencing others The programs have strict, limited numbers of attendees, with live-in Facilitators there is a significantly greater level of personal interaction, feedback and coaching than other executive development programs, with a strong emphasis on candid, direct and creative feedback. The programs are designed to be a transformational, profound and valuable experience 7

9 Aep Creators and Faculty Leaders Each AEP Experience is led by a highly capable and group of facilitators and faculty, experienced in a field of discipline such as leadership, ethics, image, acting and health & wellbeing. The AEP programs are primarily led by Harold Hillman & Glen Petersen: Glen Petersen Glen Petersen is the Managing Director of GENERATOR TALENT GROUP. He has over 30 years work experience in blue-chip organisations across Australia, New Zealand and North America and has an outstanding reputation as a judge and developer of executive talent. A specialist in the consumer goods & services, manufacturing and services industries, Glen held a number of significant and senior Human Resources leadership roles throughout his corporate career, before founding his own consulting business in Throughout his career, Glen has held a keen interest in leadership capability and executive presence, both studying and coaching executives on how to lead with more effect. Glen s early career in PepsiCo shaped his philosophy on what differentiates an effective leader and the power of presence, persona and communication. Glen, along with Harold Hillman, designed and developed the AEP theory and programs and has co-led each program over the past four years. Glen holds a Bachelor of Business from Charles Sturt University in Australia, where he was awarded the prize for highest marks in Human Resources subjects, and has represented Australia in his age group World Triathlon Championships in Sweden and Hawaii. He has four children and lives in Sydney, Australia. Harold Hillman Harold Hillman, Managing Director of Sigmoid Curve Consulting, has lived in New Zealand since 2003, when he migrated from New York to join Fonterra in two roles initially as Interim Director of Human Resources and then as Global Director of Talent. In 2007, Harold launched his own consultancy, specializing in building learning, leadership and change as core capabilities in individuals, teams and organisations. He works primarily with chief executives and executive teams, helping them to become expert at leading large scale culture change. Harold has worked across multiple sectors in New Zealand and on the global stage with clients in Financial and Professional Services, Consumer Goods, Education, Manufacturing, Media & Entertainment, Energy and the Public Sector. Harold earned his Master s Degree from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh. Prior to Fonterra and the launch of Sigmoid, Harold s career highlights include: Assistant Professor, Leadership Programs at the US Air Force Academy, Director, Amoco Management Learning Centre, Amoco Corporation; Corporate Vice President & Chief Learning Officer, Prudential Financial. Harold became a NZ citizen in 2008 and lives in Auckland. 9

Cancellations 1 If the cancellation is made 60 calendar days or more prior to the program date, a full refund of the program fees will be made. 2 We will accept a substitute participant from the organisation if that person has comparable experience and qualifications. We will determine whether a proposed substitute is an acceptable replacement. No substitute will be permitted if the cancellation is less than two weeks from the program date. If a substitute is not available of comparable experience and qualifications, the following terms apply: a. If a cancellation is made within calendar days of the program date, 50% of the fees will be refunded. b.
