The breakout sessions will run in the Plaza Suite on floor 4.
2 Breakout sessions Breakout sessions will run between 1.15pm and 1.55pm, and repeated at 2.05pm until 2.45pm. Each session will be 40 minutes long and repeated so that delegates can attend two sessions. The sessions will bring together suppliers and NHS Trusts and will be facilitated by subject-matter experts. 1. Incubation Hub: Innovation in eprescribing Speakers: Paul Rice, Head of Technology Strategy, NHS England and Dr Lisa Lee, Research Fellow at the Centre for Population Health Sciences, University of Edinburgh Description: Electronic prescribing solutions and medicines optimisation have made a real contribution to improving quality, efficiency and patient safety. The Safer Hospitals Safer Wards Technology Fund that is available to NHS trusts has identified eprescribing as a key priority for investment. The aim of this session is to identify and discuss what the key priorities and focus should be when we talk about innovation in eprescribing. We invite attendees from the NHS, commercial and other sectors to contribute their views and help us shape the future work programme. 2. Commercial Clinic: GPS Procurement Speakers: Kris Ross, Senior Category Lead IT Services, Government Procurement Service, Suzanne Williams, Category Lead, G-Cloud, Government Procurement Service and Thomas Slater, Head of Business & IT Strategic Procurement, NHS Shared Business Services. Description: In this session you will learn more about public sector procurement and potential buying vehicles. This session will look specifically at the G-Cloud framework and how customers can adopt these services and how suppliers can participate in the framework. 3. Open Source community Speakers: Richard Jefferson, Head of Business Systems, Andy Williams, Business Systems Commissioning Manager and John Pyle, Open Source Subject Matter Expert, all from NHS England Description: Knowing Me, Knowing You A ha! Open Source Community. This session will provide an opportunity to engage with individuals and organisations that are advocating or interested in Open Source, and help us shape the community that will be essential to achieving long-term success. By bringing together the NHS, Open Source systems integrators and entrepreneurs we aim to gain a mutual understanding of the contributions we can all make.
3 Biographies of the speakers and facilitators Tim Kelsey, National Director for Patients and Information, NHS England Tim Kelsey s role combines the functions of chief technology and information officer with responsibility for patient and public participation. He took up the post in 2012 after serving as the British government's first Executive Director of Transparency and Open Data. In 2000, Tim co-founded Dr Foster, a company that pioneered publication of patient outcomes in healthcare. In 2007, he launched NHS Choices, the national online health information service ( which now reports around 30 million users per month. Before Dr Foster, Tim was a national newspaper journalist and a television reporter. He worked for the Independent and the Sunday Times, as well as for Channel 4 and the BBC. Follow Tim on Beverley Bryant, Director of Strategic Systems and Technology, NHS England In her role, Beverley will set the national direction for NHS technology and informatics and stimulate technology leadership and innovation across the NHS in England. She is the SRO for a number of NHS England commitments including Integrated Digital Care Records, NHS E-referrals, Digital Primary Care and Electronic Prescriptions. Prior to joining the NHS England she was Managing Director of Health at Capita. Pam Garside, Founder of Newhealth Pam is a Fellow of the Judge Business School of the University of Cambridge and has her own management consultancy, Newhealth, specialising in organisational strategy and development in healthcare. She works extensively with boards of a wide range of healthcare organisations on leadership, governance and strategy issues. She began her professional life in management in the NHS and now spends her time working with the Department of Health, NHS organisations, and the private sector in the UK and internationally. Pam is also Senior Associate of the Nuffield Trust, an Adjunct Professor at Imperial College Business School and a board member of the International Women's Forum Leadership Foundation in Washington DC. Pam is also co-chair of the Cambridge Health Network
4 Paul Rice, Head of Technology Strategy, NHS England Paul became Head of Technology Strategy in April He has a background in senior management roles across the NHS in frontline service delivery through to health policy. He has spoken and published widely on telehealth and telecare and clinical business change to national and international audiences. He holds a first degree in law and accounting and a doctorate in medical law and bioethics. Dr Lisa Lee, Research Fellow, the Centre for Population Health Sciences, University of Edinburgh Lisa is currently working on the NIHR funded eprescribing Research Programme. Lisa holds a DPhil in Social and Cultural Studies from the University of Sussex, and has worked for the past ten years on a number of projects relating to social processes in the adoption of technology in various personal and professional settings. Kris Ross, Senior Category Lead IT Services, Government Procurement Service Kris has been working for the Government Procurement Service for the last four years in a number of roles including Category Management and Procurement. Kris lead the procurement team for all GPS categories before taking up the role as Lead for the IT Services Category. Kris pioneered the transformation of public sector procurement to make this more dynamic and SME inclusive in particular on G-Cloud and Digital Services. Kris has a background in IT and Telecommunications having previously worked for Nortel Networks UK running a Services Business Unit. Thomas Slater, Head of Business & IT Strategic Procurement, NHS Shared Business Services. Thomas is a business change and IT Procurement Specialist with four years of work experience in the NHS. He has delivered projects including Cloud Infrastructure, IT Hardware and Software, and Clinical Information System Contracting. Prior to this Thomas worked for five years in the private sector for Coca-Cola in IT infrastructure and logistics for EMEA. Suzanne Williams, Category Lead G-Cloud, Government Procurement Service Suzanne joined the Government Procurement Service in January 2013 and is the Category Lead for the G-Cloud framework. Suzanne has a background in category management, supply chain and stakeholder management, developed during her time with Aviva and Britannia Airways.
5 Richard Jefferson, Head of Business Systems, NHS England Richard joined NHS England in April His responsibilities include commissioning national programmes such as GPSoC, GP2GP, Summary Care Record, CQRS and GP IT. Richard is also responsible for the NHS England Open Source initiative, which aims to drive digitisation and interoperability in the NHS through the use of Open Source software. Prior to this he was Service Delivery Director for Capita on the NHS Choices programme, having come from a background of programme and service delivery in the finance sector. Andy Williams, Business Systems Commissioning Manager, NHS England Andy joined NHS England in June 2013 and works on the Safer Hospitals Safer Wards Technology Fund review panel. Andy is responsible for managing the NHS England Open Source initiative. Prior to this he was programme manager for the Calculating Quality Reporting Service, QIPP Digital and the Electronic Prescription Service within Connecting for Health. John Pyle, Director, NHS England John has worked in IT in the private and public sectors in the UK and internationally for over 25 years. He has lead teams in the areas of software development, packaged product development, implementation and support, as well as most of the associated sales, marketing and client management functions. For the past six years he has been involved with some of the National systems underpinning the NHS, such as SUS and HES. This led him to develop an interest in open source software and the various whole-of-life benefits it could afford the NHS. Tracey Watson, Head of Delivery Partners, NHS England Tracey heads up the Delivery Partnership Team for Strategic Systems and Technology (SST). This primarily involves working with partners across the SST Portfolio to ensure effective delivery and corporate governance, specifically providing investment and commercial leadership. Prior to joining NHS England, Tracey was on secondment to Connecting for Health, where she was responsible for strategic sourcing for the NPfIT Programmes facing contract expiry. Before moving to health, Tracey held a number of roles within central government departments including HMT, Cabinet Office, Private Office and private sector secondments within the financial sector.

Peter Greengross, The Learning Clinic The Learning Clinic is a healthcare improvement company committed to reducing avoidable harm and increasing patient safety. Founded in 2004, its main product, VitalPAC, is currently in use across over 25 NHS and private hospitals in the UK. The Learning Clinic builds long-lasting relationships with clients, providing a full package of technical and project management support, plus tailored Learning Clinics to help hospitals achieve the greatest clinical benefits possible. Jen Hyatt, Big White Wall Big White Wall (BWW) is a multi-award winning digital mental health and wellbeing service, which has been designated a High Impact Innovation by the NHS. BWW s community supports its members to self manage their care with the collaboration and guidance of clinicians and peers. BWW delivers personalised pathways to support recovery through a choice of safe therapeutic services. BWW has contracts covering more than 22% of the UK adult population, and has engaged over 14,000 people with a wide range of conditions. Neil Bacon, iwantgreatcare Ltd iwantgreatcare (iwgc) aim to harness the power of patient experience to transform care quality. To achieve this, iwgc works with the NHS and independent commissioners and providers, developing and delivering bespoke solutions to capture and report high volumes of continuous patient feedback in real time. IWGC works with organisations to report and share feedback to the widest possible audience. iwgc also provides a trusted and secure public service, which allows any patient or carer to rate and review individual GPs and hospital doctors.
7 Jonathan Cutler, Patients Know Best Patients Know Best (PKB) is a UK-based social enterprise that puts patients in control of their medical records. PKB is in use at over a dozen NHS trusts, including Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and North West London Hospitals NHS Trust. The Barth Syndrome Trust, The Thalidomide Trust, and The Alkaptonuria Society are utilising PKB for their members so that patients can better manage their complex conditions through a variety of care teams within the NHS and beyond. PKB has been selected by Deloitte as a winner of its 2013 Social Innovation Pioneer program and was previously recognised by TechCrunch as Europe's Best Social Innovation startup.
