Principal/Dir. of CTE Leroy (734) FAX (734) Accreditation Status 1. We are in the 2 nd year of district wide North Central accreditation. The NCA district visitation will occur in the spring of Southgate Anderson High School was awarded accreditation status from the North Central Association for Education Yes! Anderson High School did not attain Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the school year by one student in special education subgroup performing below proficiency. Southgate Anderson High School Improvement Plan Status The School Improvement Team consists of a core group of administrators, teachers, and students who have a commitment to make SAHS the best it can be. In addition to this central group, others have joined with them to work with specific issues that are of special interest to them. Southgate Anderson, along with every other high school in Wayne County, is ready to begin using Wayne County RESA s new student information database, Class A. Class A has replaced Performance Series Testing and the MITracker Database (Test & Demographic Information System) saving a great deal of cost, since Class A is a free service to all Wayne County Schools. This database will be available to all high schools in the fall after MME results are posted on Class A. Our staff is planning the placement of all our standardized and local tests onto Class A. Some of our staff has already received training on the use of this database with the remainder to receive training in the fall. AHS continues to assist Davidson Middle School in their move to trimesters as well as working cooperatively with them to determine when and where the new Michigan Merit Curriculum courses will be taught. Status of K-12 Core Curriculum for Southgate Community School District. The process of developing an aligned K-12 Core Curriculum has been completed. Grade level expectations for all students K-12 have been correlated with the Michigan State Standards and Benchmarks under the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks. State and local assessments in all core MME (Michigan Merit Exam) tested subjects are common and are aligned with High School Content Expectations (HSCE s). Instruction is driven by data provided by various assessments through Data Teams and will be housed through Class A as mentioned above. 2 As was the case last year, graduation rates are calculated using a formula presented by the Michigan Department of Education. This cohort group is calculated by taking the number of Southgate Anderson Made AYP Identified for High School Improvement No Yes students enrolled at Davidson MS in their 9 th grade year (373) and then graduating in exactly four years at Anderson HS (326). We conducted parent / teacher conferences in late fall. We were pleased with a new surge in parental awareness of our offerings, curriculum, and extra-curricular activities through our website. Parents have shown increased awareness and savvy in their ability and use of Powerschool, AHS student data information system. We have had another record setting year of visits hits to our student information. Parents have become reliant on accessing this student information for grades and assignments available 24 hours per day, all year long. This continual flow of critical student information has positively impacted student learning, attendance, and behavior. For the school year, parents accessed Powerschool information on average of 186 times per day. For the school year, parents accessed Powerschool information on average of times per day, an increase from the previous year by 18%. Of our 1,306 students, 1,251 parents accessed their student s academic information through Powerschool. In addition, Anderson HS students accessed their own academic information 387 times per day, on average! Parent Involvement Policy: Please see Compact under District Annual Report. 5 Southgate Anderson High School - Points of Pride SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS Approximately $2,406, was awarded in scholarships. ATHLETICS: Boys Track Sam Child s Boys Varsity Track team won it s second consecutive Mega Blue League Championship with a perfect 6-0 league record. Two boys, Logan Moore and Ben Delisle, qualified for the MHSAA State Finals. Girls Soccer Trevor Daniel s girls varsity soccer team finished with an impressive overall record and an league record, good for a second place finish in the Mega White Division. Senior Rikki Singstock signed to play soccer at Indiana Tech University. Katie Demeter and Jen Rosecrans will be playing soccer at U of M Dearborn. Girls Softball Rick Kruger s girls varsity softball team recently won the Division 1 District Championship, qualifying them for the regional tournament, hosted by Southgate Anderson. Ashley Gniewek recently signed to play both softball and hockey at Adrian. Eric Druchniak s JV team was Mega Red Champs. Rowing Nick Stawowy s rowing team has had its best season in school history. We won 5 gold medals at the Hebda Cup. We ve never received a gold medal before at that meet. We had 5 boats medal at the Midwest 2009 Championships. Jessica Olson and Amelia Clary were Women s Varsity Doubles State Champions. Adam Wlodkowski was a state champion in Men s Varsity Single. Two boats also placed at the 2009 Scholastic National Championship. Wrestling Frank Vilardi s team finished the year as Mega Red Champs, MHSAA District Champs, and had two wrestlers place 5 th in the MHSAA Individual Wrestling State Finals. Four wrestlers qualified for the State Finals this year.

6 Competitive Cheer Colette Norscia s team finished the year as the MHSAA District Champions and placed 5 th in the MHSAA State Finals held in Grand Rapids. This program has risen to an elite level in the state and is consistently strong due to the efforts of Colette and the coaches in her program. Boys Swimming New varsity head coach Nick Puente had 8 boys and 1 diver qualify for the MHSAA State Finals. Girls Basketball Phil Nagorski s team finished the year as the MHSAA District Champions. Eric Druchniak s JV team was Mega Red Champions. Varsity Football John Rama s varsity football team finished with an impressive 9-2 record. For the first time in Southgate school history, we hosted our first home playoff game and recorded our first home playoff victory. We also hosted our largest attended single sporting event during the district final game versus Wyandotte with a paid attendance of 2,572. Jerry Schulz s JV team was Mega Red Champions and were undefeated for the second consecutive year. Girls Golf Ryan Grabetz s Girls Varsity Golf Team continued to impress this year by winning the Mega White Division League Championship. New Stadium Scoreboard Through a cooperative effort between the Athletic Department, Mr. Peden, Mr. Henegar, and the Downriver Junior Football Association, we were able to acquire a new scoreboard for our stadium. We have received many positive comments and are very appreciative of all of the efforts of those involved to help acquire the new scoreboard. ART CLUB The Anderson High School Art Club provided hand decorated and stitched dresses to an orphanage in Africa, made cat houses for the Humane Society and the Allen Park Animal Shelter, worked with elementary art students, and made an amazing contribution to the Southgate Food Bank. SCIENCE Forensic Science was offered for the first time at Anderson. Mrs. Garrity taught six sections of the one trimester course.

7 STUDENT COUNCIL Student Council hosted a "Mega Meeting" in March. Student Councils from schools in the Mega League attended. Students made cards for cancer survivors and collected toys for Children's Hospital. Student Council helped organize and participated in the MS Society Downriver Walk. Student Council organized a team and participated in Relay for Life - Southgate. The Student Council team raised over $2500 for the American Cancer Society. Several members of Student Council worked with the Mayor and other city officials to form Southgate's Youth Commission. The Youth Commission serves as an advisory panel to the city. CROCHET/KNITTING CLUB The crochet/knitting club made scarves and hats that were donated to a project in Africa. ROBOTICS The Robotics team qualified for Nationals after its impressive showing at States. (In only its second year of existence!) NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY The NHS conducted two successful blood drives. CLASS OF 2009 Class of 2009 is generously giving out two $500 scholarships to two graduating seniors for the class of 2010.
