1 SAN JACINTO COLLEGE JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: DEPARTMENT: Director, Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Grant Funding SECURITY SENSITIVE: Yes FLSA STATUS 1 : Exempt SALARY GRADE: 29 FUNCTION: REPORTS TO: Direct the activities of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Vice President, Continuing and Professional Development SUPERVISES: Business Advisors, Small Business Development (3) Administrative Assistant MAJOR REPONSIBILITIES: Essential Job Functions 2 D, W, M, Q, A 3 %Time 1. Hire, train, and supervise business advisors and D 15 administrative staff of the SBDC. 2. Counsel with entrepreneurs/clients of the SBDC D 35 to start or expand businesses. 3. Lead training/workshops for entrepreneurs on D 5 business related topics. 4. Market the services of the SBDC to the D 5 community (e.g., business leaders, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations and bankers/lenders). 5. Attend SBDC regional meetings and the ASBDC M, A 5 national conference. 6. Manage the reporting requirements of the SBA, the SBDC Regional Office and San Jacinto College. 1 FLSA status and Salary Grade determined by the Human Resources department 2 All job functions MUST add up to 100% 3 D=daily, W=Weekly, M=monthly, Q=quarterly & A=annually

2 7. Measure, document, and provide feedback to stakeholders on the attainment of goals. 8. Prepare the annual budget and monitor throughout the year. 9. Lead in the development and implementation of the strategic plan and lead SBDC through the accreditation process. 10. Develop new programs and identify and purchase necessary business/management tools and software. Additional Job Functions: D, W, M, Q, A %Time 1. Promote the interests of small businesses by M 2.5 networking with and making presentations to legislators, bankers, economic development organizations, chambers of commerce and other business groups. 2. Inform legislators on progress of the SJC-SBDC supporting small business. A Serve on appropriate committees and task forces for economic development groups in the College s district. 4. SBDC team leader for Performance Management (IPPs). M 2.5 Q 2.5 REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: 1. Business management, start-up and expansion. 2. Accounting and finance. 3. Business planning software and spreadsheets. 4. Business formulas and ratio analysis. 5. Bank loan packaging. Skills: 1. Teaching 2. Coaching 3. Managing 4. Marketing

3 Abilities: 1. Ability to interact with the public. 2. Ability to think critically about small business problems and potential solutions. 3. Ability to structure business plans and loan packages. 4. Ability to make presentations to large, public audiences. Education and Experience: Required Education: Bachelor s degree in a business related discipline. Preferred Education: MBA or other business related graduate degree. Required Experience: Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of job-related experience. Preferred Experience: Significant entrepreneurial (direct business ownership and/or management) experience.
