5th November College Newsletter 2015 Week 5/10 Year 12 Final Assembly! The NTCC Class of 2015 celebrated their end of schooling with a bang last week. The theme selected for their final assembly was 'The Evolution of Music'. The Marrarian Awards were won by some popular bands ranging from Abba, Spice Girls, Elvis Presley to KISS. The whole school was entertained by their fantastic performance, dazzling costumes and some interesting games. Their morning ended with some yummy food provided in their honour by the Senior School. On behalf of our College, we wish our Year 12s God's blessings in their final exams! Mrs Terese Kadigarmar - Teacher combined campus of NT Christian Schools MCC / NTCC / / admin.mcc@ntschools.net / PO Box 84 Karama NT 0813

At this time of the year our Year 12 students find themselves standing at the beginning of their final 2 exam weeks. As part of a team of people who are unquestioningly passionate about these students, we see the culmination of three plus years of hard work coming to an end. Staff and parents will spend this time helping them balance the pressure while also keeping them focused on the bigger picture. It is well established that a Year 12 student at Marrara can, having spent their time well, have their choice of any Australian University at the very highest level. We also recognise that not every student wants to be a doctor or lawyer. Some students desires, strengths and futures lie in the myriad of other options available to them that importantly are no less valid or important. As a learning community, we have strived to help these students discover their talents and passions and to pursue them enthusiastically. As I look at the graduating class of 2015 I see so much potential. They can and will, in time become the leaders of tomorrow. It is not lost on me however, that they are still (in the grand scheme of life's journey), very young. I know that over the coming years they will continue to learn many important lessons as they gradually take up the responsibility of being an adult in their respective communities and other spheres of influence. I also recognise that what they receive on a piece of paper in the coming months does not need to define them. It should excite and encourage but not necessarily define. There are many stories of high achievers who have not fulfilled their expected potential, just as there are many examples of students who struggled through school and who went on to great things. What this tells me is that the journey for these students is not over. It really is just the beginning. The chapter that they call school is coming to its conclusion but there is an entire book yet to be written. In Philippians 3:14 it says I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. This verse reminds us that there is more to life than we can see. That although we will find a great prize in accepting Jesus Christ, the life we live in His name is just as important. My hope is that our students will leave the College and find not just success and happiness in the coming years but also the peace and joy that comes to us when we discover and pursue the plan that God has for our lives. That they will come to understand that this life of ours is full of challenges, hard work and blessing. That they will know that they are valuable and the contributions they make through all of life is what makes life great. To each of our Year 12's I wish you all the very best as you take your final examinations over these next weeks. Work hard and prepare well and I sincerely hope you do well. I also want to say that I pray that you will come to know the Lord and know the Lord's blessings on you as you venture into the next season.
Learning Together Bringing Hope to the World Page 3/8 Thanksgiving service 3pm - 5pm Sunday 29th November Darwin Entertainment Centre This is a celebration of the gifts and talents of our staff and students; a community event where council members, staff, students, parents, grandparents and friends come together to give thanks to our Lord for the year that has been. We will pray a blessing on our Year 12 class of 2015, farewell our Year 6 students from Primary and our Year 9 students from Middle School, hand out special awards and be entertained with performances from many of our talented students. It is an afternoon not to be missed - a highlight of the year s calendar. For 2015, there will be new award categories, a streamlined presentation schedule and another fabulous whole College song! We look forward to seeing you there. There is no admission fee. Turbo Tacos made a difference! Some may recall that I was unwell at the close of Term 3 and could not make it to Marrara on Show. This was particularly tough as the taco mix had been made but there was lots left to organise. In stepped my lovely colleague, Mr Doug Cantrill, and a delightful parent, Mrs Rosie Carbone. Together with a bunch of enthused Year 9 students they made Turbo Tacos happen. By all accounts, they were delicious! Thanks so much one and all for your help and support. The stall made a profit of $ which was today sent to World Vision to help provide for those in our world who have never enjoyed food of such quality! Parents, students and teachers working together to make a difference! Ms Helen van Hulst - Year 9 Teacher
Live in Truth - Grow in Wisdom Page 4/8 Feeding the Mob! I see a certain gleam come into people's eyes as I answer the question: So do you have to cook for all those boys every day? It's as though the answer to that question suddenly makes the light come on and realisation dawns that being a House Parent really is a huge undertaking, not just for an odd occasion but for every day, and tomorrow and the day after that every day until the end of term! Every morning there are 10 teenagers to get breakfasted and busy making sandwiches for their school lunches. After a long day at school they are ravenous again and ready for more food, then dinner, then supper before bed. A never-ending supply of food is an important aspect of the household's well-being and happiness (especially if you have a houseful of boys). A donation of fresh crabs was an unexpected delight at our house one evening and on that occasion the cooking was over to the boys. They were in their domain and the crabs didn't stand a chance of becoming left-overs in the fridge or feeling unwanted! Roasting roo tail in a pit of coals was another household event in a clearing adjacent to the house. The preparations were exciting as everyone got involved. Damper was made, the roo tails and sweet potatoes were wrapped in foil and laid to rest while we all sat around the campfire sharing stories and sweating in the Darwin heat! Eventually the results were assessed and declared ready to have grace said. Then the feasting began as darkness set in, the moon rose and the mossies gathered to hear our murmurings of well, actually, everyone was too busy tucking in to be talking at all! Evening mealtimes around the table are when we can hear about 'the day that's been' and 'what happened at school today'. It's a coming together of our household and a time of sharing; the TV and phones are turned off and we make time to relax, to listen to each other and enjoy each other's company as a family. It's time for Dad jokes and laughter, sometimes visitors add to our company and sometimes the boys choose the menu there are many variations on the theme but one thing is certain! We never have to dine alone or chew our food in solitary silence. Denise Judah House Photos are of Mark West (Joseph House) and (Judah House) boys cooking roo tail And the footy season starts... It's great to have the boys eager to participate and spending their time on keeping fit. But at what cost?? In our house we have boys representing 2 age divisions for the Buffaloes, 2 for Nightcliff and 1 for St Marys and some of our boys don't play. That's 5 different training sessions twice a week plus possibly 5 different matches to get to on the weekends. Most afternoons our busy little Marrara van isn't sure if it's coming or going for drop-offs and pick-ups.
Learning Together Bringing Hope to the World Page 5/8 Making a Difference in the Primary School! Throughout the year, the students in the Primary School have been fundraising for and developing awareness of needs from a local to an international scale. The Year 5/6 students participated in a simulation game with World Vision to increase their understanding and awareness of the global food crisis and how it is impacting communities. Following this, many students in the Primary School participated in the 40 Hour Famine along with other students across Middle and Senior Schools, run by our Prefects. On a National level, we participated in Jump Rope for Heart and every class did their bit to build their own healthy hearts by increasing their fitness levels and participating in a Jump Off Day. Over $2000 was raised to go to the Heart Foundation for research into heart disease. Recently, we were reminded about the needs in our local community and through Food For Life, the Primary School have organised the collection of non-perishable food items in an effort to fight hunger in the Top End. A group of our Year 5 students sorted the food into categories and counted nearly 300 items that we can donate to Food For Life. Thank you to all those who contributed and sponsored our students throughout this year. Together, we can make a difference! Mrs Joanne Rheinberger - Head of Primary Instrumental Music Program (IMP) News 1. At the end of the year Lois Fong will be leaving our music program as she and her family are relocating. We pray that God will bless you richly Lois and thank you for your years of violin teaching at our College. 2. On Sunday November 15th, we will hold our Semester 2 Concert. It will begin at 2pm in the College Music room. This is always a great day of encouraging our young musicians. Year 9 Celebration Dinner Thursday 26th November 6-10pm $35pp Tickets on sale now at Reception!
