1 Hi, just a reminder that you're receiving this because you have expressed an interest in United Way of Central Kentucky. Don't forget to add to your address book so we'll be sure to land in your inbox! You may unsubscribe if you no longer wish to receive our s. United Way of Central Kentucky GIVE, ADVOCATE, VOLUNTEER. E-NEWS FROM YOUR LOCAL UNITED WAY October 2015 Resources & Results Newsletter Dear United Way Campaign Manager, Our 2015 campaign is in full swing, with over 50 meetings held to date and dozens more scheduled over the coming weeks. We look forward to receiving your fundraising totals as we work to raise a record $1.35 million to meet the approximately $1.7 million requested from grant applications each year. Thank you for your dedication to helping us close the gap between the needs of our community and the solutions we can offer because of your generosity! Campaign Tool Spotlight: Pledge Reporting Tips Give. Did you know? You can direct your contribution to one of our focus areas- Education, Financial Stability, Health, or Basic Needs, any UWCK-funded partner, or county served by United Way. Donate here for secure credit card payments you can count toward your workplace campaign or make in honor of a loved one. Advocate. Do you know another business that could benefit from a relationship with United Way? Contact us to help engage other companies in making corporate philanthropy easier and more effective than ever. Volunteer. Did you know UWCK will match your employees with volunteer opportunities or plan custom service projects for your team? Contact us to get started or read more about our partner programs. Save The Date Did you know UWCK makes grants to our programs based on pledges to our annual campaign? That means 80% of donations promised have not yet been collected when we make allocations decisions in the spring. That's why having accurate projections of pledges and records of payments is so important, as we do not want to allocate more to funded partners than we expect to collect over the coming year. Do your employees have questions about how to fill out their pledge forms? Are you getting ready to report totals for Wellness Wednesday

2 your workplace campaign? Let us help make these steps easier for you! Find answers to frequently asked questions about the pledge process here, or download our campaign calculator to track payroll deductions, one-time gifts, or corporate donations. Please have a Pledge Report Form completed when a UWCK representative picks up your pledge forms and any cash or checks so we can accurately report and recognize your overall campaign total! HealthSouth Shares the Collective Impact of Donations Workshop: Stretching Your Dollars at the Holidays When: Wednesday, October 28th Where: Hardin County Public Library, 100 Jim Owen Drive, Elizabethtown Time: 5:00 PM- 6:00 PM, EST RSVP: Call (270) or sign up at the library. HealthSouth Lakeview Rehabilitation Hospital kicked off their campaign by holding several campaign meetings with their staff this month. Meetings were led by CEO Lori Jarboe and Employee Campaign Manager Jennifer Phelps. In addition to showing UWCK's annual campaign video and having a volunteer share their United Way story with their staff, Jennifer also facilitated the Making Choices activity. Making Choices is a very brief, interactive activity that allows participants to get a glimpse of what it's like to live a day in the life of someone living in poverty. Instructions and printable copies of the game board can be found on our website for you to incorporate into your workplace campaigns. The meetings were ended by Lori and Jennifer, both fellows of the first ever United Way of Central Kentucky Fellowship Program, sharing their experiences with United Way and why they are United Way champions. Jennifer also crafted a creative handout for each employee that illustrates the collective impact that they could make as a whole if each of them were to give a certain amount each pay period. This is a great tool that helped employees to visually see how if they were to each give a little, they would easily be able to reach their company campaign goal. Thanks again to HealthSouth for being such great supporters of our work! Tocqueville Society Reception When: Tuesday, October 27th Where: United Way of Central Kentucky, 604 North Main Street, Elizabethtown Time: 5:30 PM- 7:30 PM, EST RSVP: Contact Christa Shouse at (270) One On One Volunteer Orientation

3 'Tis The Season To Give, And Say Thanks! On Tuesday, December 1st, individuals, families, businesses, and non-profits will come together for one common purpose-to celebrate generosity and to give. United Way of Central Kentucky is using this day to show our appreciation to our wonderful donors and volunteers by hosting our first ever Thank-A-Thon. It's because of their support that United Way of Central Kentucky is able to provide opportunities and hope to the thousands of families in our community each year. On this day, United Way staff and volunteers will be making phone calls, sending out letters, and stopping by several of our corporate partners just to say THANKS! We are encouraging all of our network to wear their LIVE UNITED shirts that day so please help us to spread the word! Can we stop by your organization to say THANKS? If so, please reach out to Dana Garrett at or to let her know! Campaign Spotlight: Dow Corning Dow Corning takes a team approach to their United Way campaign! Several employees serve on a campaign planning committee to help to ensure employees have the opportunity to learn about the importance of United Way while making it fun! Employees are invited to attend a thirty minute presentation where they have the chance to watch As a United Way Volunteer you stand alongside hundreds of other volunteers who are dedicated to making a measurable impact in the lives of people in our community. Do you want to learn the many things UWCK does? Are you or anyone you know wanting to volunteer but don't know where to start? Our Volunteer Orientation is designed to help you learn about volunteer opportunities available to you and help you find the best fit to ensure a successful service experience. If you or anyone you know are interested in this one on one Volunteer Orientation. Please contact Natalie Cubbage at or call to set up your training. See Your Investment At Work You may just contribute $1 or $2 a week, but did you know your support of UWCK has changed countless lives right here in our community? Visit our website and use the box in the top left corner to sign up for our new quarterly Impact Report, which will share updates on the results achieved because of your generous donations. We look forward to sharing our first edition for Fall 2015 and hope you will forward this e-newsletter to your colleagues! Ensuring School Readiness Through Our VISTA Program

4 the United Way campaign video, listen to speakers from United Way-supported organizations, and hear from their plant manager who also serves on the United Way Board. Employees were also treated to ice cream, even at their 6:30AM meeting, and had a chance at winning one of several great door prizes by answering questions about the organization. Dow Corning also added a new twist to their campaign meetings this year and encouraged employees to ask any question they had about United Way. The most common question heard was regarding overhead of the organization. We are always excited when we get the opportunity to talk about these common questions because it gives us a chance to explain how our organization works and how we strive to be the best steward of donor dollars. To see the answer to this question along with other FAQs, click here. If you are interested in taking a team approach to campaign planning, a United Way staff member would be happy to meet and help you to brainstorm ideas on how to make this the most fun and successful campaign yet! Nancy Lucas, Early Childhood VISTA at Breckinridge County Schools recently organized a Health Fair for Preschool and Head Start families. By targeting her approach to healthcare organizations, Nancy was able to secure 20 vendors, volunteers to check blood pressure and provide vision screenings and inflatable body organs for interactive display. Each vendor that participated distributed brochures to inform visitors of services they provide to the community. Light refreshments and goody bags with donated items were distributed to each guest. Participation was excellent because Nancy asked the Preschool and Head Start teachers to promote the fair to their children's parents. Teaching children and their families the importance of good health through routine exams supports positive school readiness outcomes.
