4 TWEENS & TEENS SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (SNL) This after-hours program provides a safe, supervised place for teens to hang out, swim, dance, play games, workout and more! Be sure to bring student ID. YCCY (YMCA s Community Center for Youth) The Walla Walla YMCA s Community Center for Youth (YCCY) is a FUN, FREE, SAFE place for teens in our community to come together, expand their horizons, play sports, video games and most importantly, BE TEENS! Through four weeks of adventure, you will not only learn the significance of Lewis & Clark and walk in their shoes, you will also learn outdoor survival, camping, backpacking and canoeing! 5 YOUTH AND GOVERNMENT Teens learn the meaning and functionality of democracy in our nation by assuming roles of elected state officials and researching, writing and debating their bills. Students will learn how to write a bill, sharpen their public speaking skills and be the voice of Eastern Washington. 500 students throughout the state will meet in the capitol building in Olympia, WA in May to debate their bills and be heard. Contact: Kerstin Fenton, kfenton@wwymca.org, Location: YMCA Boardroom Ages: Students in grades 8-12 Dates: 11/4 - mid-may 2016 Days: 1st & 3rd Wednesday every month Times: 5-6:15 PM Registration Deadline: 11/12/15 Fee: Program Deposit: $50 due December 2015 Registration fee for all participants: $150 due February 2016 SPORTS & PLAY ARCHERY: BEGINNER Archers will learn the skills needed to be successful shooters while improving self-esteem. Archery is run in a very safe environment and safety points are taught to all participants. Location: Courtyard on Back Lawn Ages: 8-13 Dates: 9/14-10/14 Days: M/W Times: 4:30-5:30 PM Registration Deadline: 9/7 Fee: Family Plus: $53 Youth Individual: $59 Program Participant: $89 ARCHERY: INTERMEDIATE Archers will learn more in-depth skills about the factors of firing. They will learn to fire from greater distances, to factor in the arch of the arrow, the distance of the target and how to counter wind conditions. 6 TEEN ADVANCED ARCHERY Archers will fix and hone all their skills in this four week class to be able to hit their marks and earn their spot on the Y s very own Archery League coming this winter 2015/16! It retains many of the circular movements and artistic beauty of Chinese Kung Fu. Students are tested at the end of each session to be promoted or held at their appropriate rank. Location: Harmony Room Ages: 8+ Dates: Session 1: 9/15-10/15 Session 2: 11/10-12/10 Days: T/Th Times: 6:30-7:30 PM Fee: Family Plus: $45 Youth Individual: $50 Program Participant: $70 CLIMBING WALL: ROCKS (Intermediate) Master the skills needed to become a more advanced climber by knowing how to tie specific knots, harnessing, climbing communication and pass a skills evaluation to progress into Lead Climbing. 7 YOUTH STRENGTH TRAINING 101 This class is designed to introduce pre-teens ages to the Wellness Center. They will learn how to safely and properly use the equipment that is suited for them. Taught by Certified Personal Trainer, Josh Klingenberg, NSCA. Participants will also learn how to design and follow an exercise routine suitable to their goals. Note: Completion of YST 101 required to participate. 8 INTRO TO BREAKDANCING Teens will learn the fundamentals of breakdancing:top Rocks, Footwork, and Freezes. Students will learn the history of the dance, be exposed to a new experience and get into their creative side. At the end of the program, students will also get to experience the competition side of breakdancing. A staff member will be on-hand to assist you. Location: Technology Lab in the Action Zone Ages: 8-15 Dates: Ongoing Days: M/T/W Times: 3-3:50 PM Fee: Included with membership MINECRAFT BUILDER Students will get a chance to work as a group to build their own Minecraft world. Each class will present the builders with a challenge they must solve together in their group. All students will be able to use Minecraft at the Y but if they want to continue their adventure at home, they will need to purchase their own Minecraft account. 9 ADVANCED MINECRAFT Move into the more advanced aspects of Minecraft by exploring: mega builds, dynamic planning, red-stone mechanics and a touch of mods. Prerequisite for this class is Mine Builder. Location: Technology Lab Ages: 8-15 Dates: Session 1: 9/14-10/23 Session 2: 11/2-12/18 Days: M/W Times: 5-6 PM Registration Deadline: 9/11 Fee: Family Plus: $55 Youth Individual: $60 Program Participant: $86 AQUATICS Session Class Duration Registration Opens Registration Closes Fall (5 weeks) 9/21-10/23 August 12 September 14 Holiday 1 (3 weeks) 11/2-11/19 August 12 October 26 Holiday 2 (3 weeks) 11/30-12/17 August 12 November 23 LEVIATHAN SWIM LEAGUE The swim league is intended to bridge the gap between our lesson programs and the USA swim clubs. It can also prepare middle school and high school swimmers by providing valuable tools and resources to develop skills which will help ease transition into competitive swim teams. *Must have successfully passed Flying Fish OR be at least 11 years of age. 10 SPECIAL NEEDS ADAPTIVE SWIM PROGRAM One-on-one swimming lessons for children and teens with special needs. Swim instructors concentrate on fun, teaching safety, and technique to help participants become the best swimmers they can be. Fee: Family Plus - $100 ($60)* Youth Individual - $140 (84)* Program Participant - $180 (108)* *Indicates holiday session pricing PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Individual swim lessons for any ability and any age. Meet with your personal instructor to set goals for perfecting technique. Classes are 30 minutes long. Circle swim may be required if there are several swimmers in the pool at the same time. Please be courteous to all members and make space for incoming swimmers. 11 LIFEGUARD TRAINING An American Red Cross certification course that provides the skills and training necessary to obtain a job as a professional lifeguard. Class training includes CPR, AED, and First Aid certification. This course is very information-dense. The class hours are mandated by Red Cross and leave no room for any absences. There will be no option for make up if you miss any class time. Passing requirements are strict and are Red Cross regulated. Paying for and participating in the course does not guarantee certification.
