1 Senior Counsellors Youth Expeditions Senior Counsellors must be energetic and enjoy working with children (ages 6 12 years) or youth (ages years) in a supervisory role. Duties include: program planning and implementation, completing daily/weekly statistics and reports, requesting supplies, supervising and evaluating program staff, monitoring program content and schedules, ensuring the safety of participants and staff. Senior Counsellors must possess strong leadership skills and effective communication and customer service skills. A minimum of one (1) year post-secondary education in a field related to children and youth (i.e. Recreation, Education, Early Childhood Education or Social Sciences). Valid Class 5 Driver s License and valid Driver s Abstract (required for Tennis positions). Vehicle business insurance required. Valid Class 4 Driver s License (unrestricted) would be an asset. Experience in planning and implementing programming in a group setting and the ability to instruct various sports, outdoor activities, arts/crafts and low organized games. Leadership experience/training (i.e. Completion of City of St. John s Youth Leadership Programs or equivalent) would be an asset. Experience in supervision and evaluation of staff and programs. Knowledge of child development and behavior management techniques. Tennis Canada Instructor Certification (required for Tennis positions). NCCP Coaching Certification would be an asset for a soccer or tennis position. Additional (Provided free for successful candidates) Paddle Canada: Lake Canoe Introduction Tandem Certification would be an asset (Mandatory for Camp Explore Outdoor, Youth Expeditions, and Community Camp). Paddle Canada Introduction to Kayaking Certification would be an asset (Mandatory for Youth Expeditions). swimming and canoeing. 2 Recreation Assistant Youth Programs The Recreation Assistant for Youth Programs are responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating a variety of fun and challenging programs and activities for youth aged years. Duties include: developing program content and schedules for various youth initiatives; booking speakers and facilities; overseeing and evaluating program delivery; providing direct program leadership; directly supervising and ensuring the safety of participants; conducting program and participant evaluations; and completing other required reports. Valid Class 5 Driver s License with access to a vehicle (business insurance will be required). A minimum of one (1) year post-secondary education in a field related to children or youth (i.e. Recreation, Physical Education, Education, Social Sciences, or Nursing). Experience working with youth ages years in a group program setting would be an asset. Experience in program planning and implementation. Excellent communication and supervisory skills. Leadership (i.e. Completion of City of St. John s Youth Leadership Programs or equivalent) would be an asset. Additional (Provided free for successful candidates) Paddle Canada: Lake Canoe Introduction Tandem Certification would be an asset. swimming and canoeing. June 29 September 4, 2015 Must be available to attend Area Specific June 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, Rate of Pay: $14.42 per hour (Up to 40 hours per week) These positions require a valid unrestricted driver s license and daily access to a vehicle. These positions will also require proof of business insurance.

Duties include: implementing a variety of recreational activities as outlined by supervisors, enhancing program content through building on participant interests and directly supervising program participants. Recreation Counsellors must possess a strong sense of safety awareness, good oral communication and customer service skills, and good problem solving ability. Leadership experience. A minimum of one (1) year post-secondary education in a field related to children and youth. (i.e. Recreation, Education, Early Childhood Education or Social Sciences). Experience in planning and implementing programming in a group setting and the ability to instruct various sports, outdoor activities, arts/crafts and low organized games. Leadership training (i.e. Completion of City of St. John s Youth Leadership Programs or equivalent) would be an asset. 4 Lifeguard/Recreation Counsellor To ensure the safety of all patrons using Department of Community Services Swimming Pools, or program participants in Child or Youth Camp programs swimming at Rotary Sunshine Park or other waterfront areas. Current Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Service (NLS) Pool Option. Current Lifesaving Society NLS Waterfront Option or Canadian Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard would be an asset for Camp positions. Current Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certificate (required for swimming lesson instructing positions ONLY). Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer, and/or Lifesaving Instructor, NLS Instructor, or other Aquatic Leadership Certifications would be an asset. Experience in supervision of aquatic programs, and activities would be an asset. Excellent communication leadership/instructional skills. Ability to work independently and as a team member. 17 years of age as of July 2, Additionally for Lifeguard/Recreation Counsellor Positions: General Leadership (i.e. Completion of City of St. John s Youth Leadership Programs or equivalent) would be an asset. Post-secondary education in a field related to children/youth would be an asset. Paddle Canada: Lake Canoe Introduction Tandem Certification would be an asset (training will be provided if required). One year of experience in planning and implementing programming for children/youth in a group setting and an ability to instruct various outdoor and sports activities, crafts and low organized games. Additional (Provided free for successful candidates): Basic Cardiac Life Support CPR (Level C) June 29 September 4, 2015 Period of Employment and training may vary according to placement in specific program. Must be available to attend Area Specific June 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 2015 (see chart provided on following page) Rate of Pay (Range depending on position): $13.71 per hour (Up to 40 hours per week.)
