1 Date: 1 Mar 2015 Nicholas Baldwin (Junior) - St. Mary s High School (Private): Nicholas was born in Colorado Springs and raised in an Air Force family, growing up in Georgia, Ohio and Nebraska along with Colorado. He is proud to have a life full of service to others, community involvement and mentoring other youth through scouting (11 years!) and his church. He enjoys being part of something bigger than himself, particular working toward a common goal through teams as he plays basketball (and has lettered in) football, track and field. Academically, he shines in math and science, and has earned three academic letters, National Honor Society membership and the St. Mary s HS Merit Scholarship. He has taken piano lessons for over half his life, and won the Colorado Music Federation Gold Cup award. He has been a member of the American Numismatic Association for five years and is a Rotary Youth Leadership Award recipient. Nicholas plans to attend college, perhaps a military academy, and major in Engineering. He is also considering serving in the military and pursuing a law degree. Sofia Barnett (Sophomore) - Rampart High School (D20): Sofia Barnett was born in New York City in 2000 and raised in the Springs. She is heavily involved in both the community and her school. As an officer for her school s Future Business Leaders of America club, Sofia is a three time state qualifier for showing outstanding achievements in public speaking, service announcements, and finance. Also a state-level competitor for DECA (a marketing club) and a representative on one of the most charitable student councils in the nation, she helped raise over $40K for charitable causes. Sofia also works as a peer partner within her community aiding students with special needs in their academic pursuits. Outside of school Sofia competes in national horseback riding championships and is also a Senior Ensemble member at her dance studio, committing her to over twenty hours a week of practice and rehearsals. She enjoys volunteering at local events such as color runs and benefit shows, and excels in public speaking, music, and the performing arts. Christopher Bell (Sophomore) - Mesa Ridge High School (D3): Christopher was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He enjoys designing on AutoCAD, which is a 3D modeling software. After graduating high school, Chris wants to go into the military and pursue a degree to become an architect or a psychiatrist. Whatever he does he hopes to make an impact in the lives of others. Christopher loves listening to music and cooking. He also enjoys being outdoors, going hiking and camping. 1

2 Charles Broomfield (Freshman) - Coronado High School (D11): Charles was born in Virginia, but has lived in Colorado Springs since he was two years old. Charles excels in school, and is able to maintain a GPA of 4.0 or higher. His favorite subjects are English and Science. Charles s real passion is athletics. He has played soccer, basketball, football, and wrestling, but he focuses a lot of time on discus and shot put. Last summer, Charles traveled to Houston, Texas to compete in the Junior Olympic USA Track and Field national championships and took 6 th in his age group for discus. One of his greatest aspirations is to be an Olympic discus and shot put thrower. When Charles is not doing school work or working on perfecting his throwing technique, you can find him playing the bagpipes. Emilie Carroll (Junior) - Liberty High School (D20): Emilie was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and raised in Colorado Springs. She is a girl with a mind that never stops questioning, and a heart that is ready to make a difference. Emilie s passion is running. She participates in Cross Country and Track and has been on varsity for both sports for the last three years. She also likes to be in the spotlight, and has participated in five plays throughout her high school career. Emilie s third passion is writing and she is in a journalism class at her school where she is free to express herself. In the future, Emilie knows that she will continue to write, weather it is on a blog or maybe even writing a book. Emilie is still undecided about her future college plans, but she hopes to be able to travel and see the world so she can experience different cultures. Elliot Chambers (Freshman) - Doherty High School (D11): Elliot was born and raised in Colorado Springs. Academic excellence is something that Elliot strives for, and he is a very outstanding student, with a GPA over 4.0. He was awarded the PTA Legacy Award from Jenkins Middle School and also the Academic Lamp of Excellence award for maintaining a 4.0. GPA throughout Middle School. Another one of Elliot's goals, is to complete his Eagle Scout project. Volunteering in the Pike Peak Summer Reading Program for kids is just one way he fulfills his passion toward helping his community and encouraging other kids to grow and learn. Athletically, Elliot is a member of the Doherty Cross Country team and really enjoys running. He also has an interested in art, particularly 2D art, and has received awards for some of his work. Gretchen Gaebler (Sophomore) - Palmer High School (D11): Gretchen was born in Richardson, Texas, and then her family moved to Colorado Spring when she was one. She went to the Colorado Springs Charter Academy from first through eighth grade, and then went to Palmer High School when she graduated. As of right now, with her acting career yet to get off the ground, and her mad flute skills not making their way out into the world just yet, the best chance of seeing her in action will be in an observatory as an astrophysicist after she graduates from college, of course. As a swimmer, with chlorine being exuded from all of her pores, she claims to ward off males without even showing them her amazing powers of sarcasm. If you ever want to find her, just look around the woods of Palmer Park on a nice day. Karina Hernandez (Junior) - Harrison High School (D2): Karina was born and raised in Colorado Springs. She is a bi-lingual natural leader, an excellent student, and a hard worker. Karina is currently ranked third out of 207 students in her class. She hopes to hone her baking skills to hopefully one day open up a bakery. Jack McLaughlin (Junior) - Colorado Springs School (Private): Jack was born and raised in the Springs, and is literally a Jack of all trades. He enjoys many forms of artistic expression including, but not limited to, playing guitar, singing, writing songs/poetry, sculpting, pencil drawing and digital painting. Jamie Periquet (Junior) - Sierra High School (D2): Jamie was born and raised in Colorado Springs. She is a very dedicated and inspired student, carrying a full load of nearly all Advanced Placement (AP) courses. As Vice President of her school s National Honor Society, she leads fundraisers and other projects. She is very invested in drama club, music and band, holding first chair and lettering every year while playing the flute, piccolo, oboe and bass drum (not all at the same time though!) In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and playing her violin and piano. She enjoys taking a suspension training class at her fitness center, and being a member of her school s speech and debate team. Competing in tournaments has vastly developed her skills in public speaking and research, as she made it to State as a Freshman. In the future, Sophie would love to become a professional author, possibly start a career in cryptology, or perhaps business...as long as it s something she loves doing. Marlee Tate (Junior) - Falcon High School (D49): Marlee was born in Santa Maria California, but raised in Colorado Springs since she was four years old. It is the only place she calls home. She is a very hard-working individual who has been on the honor roll all throughout high school, and is ranked in the top ten percent of her class.
