From the school's inception, Lawrence Park's teachers, students and parents have worked together to support academic excellence. In accord with its motto, "Amor Doctrinae Floreat" (Let the Love of Learning Flourish), the school remains committed to providing a rich and varied program. Course offerings include, at all grade levels: Extended, Immersion and Core French; some Advanced Placement courses; Music program featuring Band, Strings and Vocal; Latin and German; Computer Studies, including Computer Graphics; selected Business classes; Mathematics; Science (Biology, Chemistry & Physics); Health and Physical Education; English and Media Arts; Video Production, Drama, Visual Arts, and a large variety of courses in the Social Sciences and Co-operative Education. The vast majority of LPCI graduates proceed to university, so most courses are offered at the University preparation level. Like its academic program, Lawrence Park's extracurricular options are impressive both in range and quality. There are numerous varsity teams, including Junior and Senior Football, Field Hockey for girls, Rugby, Hockey and Swimming for boys and girls. Our Arts programs include music nights, coffee houses, Author visits, a school play and visual arts exhibits. Complementing a strong academic and extracurricular base is the school's Co-operative Education program. Co-op students benefit each year from an array of placements and make essential connections between the classroom and the world of work. Positive school climate founded in a strong school spirit fostering an enduring tradition of academic excellence and achievement. Focus on information technology and computer resources in the classroom and in the library. The Lawrence Park library is an excellent resource centre in English, French and German. Our librarians work closely with subject teachers fostering the growth of higher order thinking, research and study skills required for the effective use of information technology. A hardcopy is provided to students and parents in January of each year to assist them in choosing courses for the following school year. A variety of special education programs and services are offered to meet the needs of all students, including students with exceptionalities, such as behavioural, communication, intellectual, physical and multiple learning disabilities. 4 Information about the success of our programs comes from a wide variety of student assessments. These assessments are based on clear expectations for all learners, consistent with those described in The Ontario Curriculum. The primary purpose of student assessment is to improve learning. Assessment has the greatest potential to improve learning when it is an integral part of classroom activities. Teachers assess student progress towards achieving the expectations on an ongoing basis by using strategies such as projects, class presentations, homework assignments, classroom observations, portfolios of student work, and tests. Schools use assessment information and information from other sources to make informed decisions for school improvement planning. Schools identify areas of strength as well as areas that require improvement. Input is obtained from a variety of sources such as student assessments, teacher feedback, parent feedback, and community surveys. In this way, schools monitor, celebrate and improve their efforts in providing a supportive and challenging learning environment for all their students. Academics We are very proud of our students and their achievements, while recognizing that there is always room for growth and improvement. Our goal is to improve on last year's achievements. Over 50% of our graduates are Ontario Scholars and historically 90% of our grade 9 students have graduated from Lawrence Park. In addition, 35% of our graduating students were offered university scholarships last year and 100% of our grade 10 students were successful on the Province-wide Literacy Test, in Enrichment (AP) Advanced Placement is offered in Mathematics, History, French and English Language and Literature. This program is growing here at Lawrence Park and will expand to include other subject areas. Math and Science Mathematics students once again participate in several Math competitions (Euclid, Fermat, Cayley, Pascal and the Canadian Open Math Challenge). Students work throughout the year in preparation for these contests. Biology students participate in the National Biology Competition, while in Chemistry, students participate in the Avogadro Exam and Chem 13 News Exam. In Physics, students participate in the Sir Isaac Newton Gr. 12 Physics Exam. The Arts Music Repertoire courses are offered at the end of the school day, allowing additional timetable flexibility for music students. Visual Arts students are creating murals based on the theme of 'The Arts'. Increased attention is paid to the use of computer technology in a Visual Arts course emphasizing design. Drama students will continue to participate in the Sears Festival as well as in major productions. Student Leaders Lawrence Park continues to foster the development of leadership skills with our students. Through the activities of the Student Council, Buddies, Music Council, Drama Council, Boys' Athletic Board, Girls' Athletic Board, Free the Children, Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving, ESP, Triangle Program, Peer Mediators, Yearbook, Faux Fur literary 'zine, Panther Print (English) and Laureat (French) student newspapers, our students have many opportunities to acquire and practise their leadership skills. A Student Council Leadership conference is held annually in May. Literacy and Numeracy Initiatives Our Literacy Plan includes a thorough assessment of our incoming grade 9 students to ascertain their needs both in terms of our expectations for this age group and their preparedness for the grade 10 Literacy Test (OSSLT). The emphasis for our senior students is on their level of readiness for post-secondary education. This involves harmonization of literacy expectations and rubrics across subject areas. In the area of numeracy, we focus on students' skills to achieve success building on strengths and reinforcing areas of need. Athletic Assistance Program Our Athletic Assistance Program was created to serve LPCI students with exceptional program needs. Students who compete at a provincial or national level may wish to be considered for this school program after enrolment at LPCI. Information is available from our Curriculum Leader for Physical Education.

5 The Lawrence Park School Council is involved in many ways in the life of the school. Each year, the Council organizes several evening events that attract a number of parents and community members. Topics have included sessions on eating disorders, drug-prevention programs, drinking and driving, university-application process, student evaluation and managing life with a teenager. Parents participate in a number of events supporting our graduating class. They help finance the grad breakfast, sponsor the commencement reception, and provide numerous awards and scholarships that support our students as they head off to university. Parents volunteer on a regular basis throughout the school. Chaperoning dances and other student events, assisting in our library, accompanying staff on field trips, publishing a school newsletter, and transporting students to a variety of extra-curricular events are all a part of Lawrence Park parents' contribution. Lawrence Park alumni take an active role in assisting current students in their efforts to succeed in academics as well as their extra-curricular program. The Lawrence Park Foundation supports student achievement through scholarships and bursaries. Lawrence Park students participate in several major fundraising events each year to support their community eg. The United Way, Free The Children and The Terry Fox Run.
