But strong tissue demand growth in emerging markets, not in only China but also in the Middle and ern Europe, counterbalances declining growth in maturing markets. Being one of the few continuously growing and dynamic paper industry branches, the global tissue business has attracted new players to invest in new facilities. At the same time, the traditionally local or regional business has become increasingly international and competitive. World trade in tissue has doubled from three million tons to six million tons in the past ten years. In Europe, national boundaries in tissue purchasing and distribution are disappearing together with concentration and internationalization of retailing. North American tissue suppliers are facing a serious competitive threat by pulp-integrated lowcost Asian suppliers. Supply patterns are also changing in Asia and the Pacific Rim as aggressive new suppliers push their exports further out. Since the publication of our previous global tissue business outlook report in June 2005, the world of tissue has experienced many changes. Therefore we have decided to prepare a new report with forecasts extended until The data quality will be unique, as the RISI and EU Consulting databases have been incorporated in this new report for the first time, along with more countries.
