2 ANOKA NORTHERN STAR 4-H CLUB Hi! We are Kendra and Ruth who co-lead the Anoka Northern Stars 4-H club for homeschoolers. We usually meet on the 2nd Friday of each month (although a few times during the year it flexes to the first or third Friday) at the Bunker Hills Activities Center. Sometimes we meet at an offsite location to incorporate different experiences for our club. Our meetings begin with an ice breaker activity and then move into a business meeting, followed up by an activity for the kids to either have fun or explore a project area. We end with some snacks and social time. Although we are not new to 4-H, we are new leaders. The vision we have for our club is to create a welcoming and friendly environment where kids and families can come explore 4-H together through hands on activities focusing on 4-H project areas, have fun team building activities, serve the outside community through 1 or 2 service projects a year, and gain leadership and speaking skills. We ask that families be responsible for coordinating one meeting or offsite activity for the year and bring a snack once during the year as well. Hope you can check out our club and see if it is a good fit for your family. 4 CHEERFUL CHUGGERS 4-H CLUB The Cheerful Chuggers 4-H Club conducts an official meeting once a month and is dedicated to provide children with hands-on learning, a place to develop strong friendships and relationships within our community and to grow as a person with increased self-esteem. We work as a team on various community service projects and make a difference with volunteering and providing support in our local community. Our Club Officers, who are youth in 5 th grade and up, lead each monthly meeting and assist younger youth with the monthly themed activity. Monthly activities are on various subjects to introduce and inspire a new project area, future leadership and handson learning. Our meetings are designed to involve youth in long-term, structured programs and assist with physical, cognitive, social and emotional needs. We encourage every youth to conduct one demo on any subject area in front of our club. This allows them to share with others on what they are passionate about and to become more comfortable talking in front of others. As a group, we volunteer at two county events each year and also participate in a winter fun event, summer fun event and club fundraiser. The favorite activity for the year is presenting a project at the Anoka County Fair. Members can demonstrate their knowledge in their project area and a judge will listen, ask questions, provide feedback and award a ribbon. There are many opportunities within our club for youth to develop an assortment of skills, build lasting relationships and learn about the world in which they live. 9 LAMPLIGHTERS 4-H CLUB Welcome to 4-H! I am Rikki Popsun the leader of the Lamplighters 4-H Club. Our club has been around over 50 years! We meet the 1 st Sunday of every month September to June at the Andover YMCA/Community Center from 4 6pm. We are still active in July and August promoting 4-H and our club. Currently, a large population of our club is elementary/middle school aged, but all ages are welcome to join! In 4-H, we encourage parents and children to participate at meetings. Some of the things we do throughout the year is snow tubing, bowling, highway clean up, Coon Creek clean up, donate blankets to Anoka County Child Protection and Feed My Starving Children. One of our highlights in the last 5 years was our club project. We built a Solar Electric Vehicle (SEV). We took it to the County Fair, State Fair, Andover Fun Fest and we were even on TV. During this project we had all ages participate. Some helped build the SEV, some did the scrapbook, and others sewed the seat covers. It was great project and the kids had a great time. We would love to do another club project based on the interests of our group. Our group has a variety of interests and skills. We are welcoming new members! You can contact me by phone or if interested.
