2 New Member Orientatin Guide 2014 Intrductin Welcme t the PAEB! We greatly appreciate yur time and cmmitment t supprting and assisting with the PAEB activities. This is a guide t assist new members f the PAEB. It is assumed that new members have participated in the AIR at a state level prir t being appinted t the PAEB, and s will have sme understanding f the wrkings f the AIR. Yu shuld feel very cmfrtable t ask questins f any member f the PAEB. The PAEB The PAEB is an advisry bard and is respnsible t the AIR Bard f Directrs (BD). The BD makes appintments t the PAEB. Members f the PAEB may include representatives frm each State f Australia in bth academic and clinical prfessins. Generally, appintments are fr a tw year term; hwever the BD may vary this perid as deemed apprpriate. The PAEB has a number f key respnsibilities utlined in the AIR Educatin Plicies. At a practical level, mst f the PAEB s activities relate t: Management f the Supervised Practice Prgramme (under cntract frm the MRPBA) Management f the Prfessinal Practice Standards Management f the Resumptin f Prfessinal Practice fr membership f the A.I.R. Management f the Advanced Practitiner pathway Endrsement f pst graduate prgrammes Endrsement f learning cntent within MRLO Prmting educatin, develpment, lifelng learning and research in medical imaging and radiatin therapy 1

3 New Member Orientatin Guide 2014 PAEB Dcuments The Hnrary Secretary f the PAEB will prvide yu with the fllwing dcuments which frm the basis f many f the PAEB s activities: Educatin Plicies and guidelines Endrsement f Prfessinal Practice Standards fr the A.I.R. s Accredited practitiner Cntact details fr the PAEB members Reimbursement Claim frm Travel Request frm Current PAEB calendar DcSYS User Guide PAEB Meetings The PAEB meets mnthly via telecnference fr apprximately tw hurs. Yu will be prvided with the telephne number and telecnference cdes prir t the meeting. Calls t the telecnference service are free frm landline telephnes. Call csts t the telecnference service frm mbile phnes are ften expensive. There are generally three face-t-face meeting f the PAEB each year, usually in Melburne. If warranted, ne f these meetings may cincide with the ASMMIRT. Meetings are relatively infrmal with decisins usually taken by cnsensus rather than frmal vting. Where a cnsensus cannt be reached, the Chair will be guided by the views f a majrity f PAEB members. PAEB meetings held face-t-face are usually scheduled fr Friday and Saturdays The PAEB shuld meet prir t and during the ASMMIRT. When this ccurs, PAEB members are prvided with airfares t the ASMMIRT and accmmdatin fr attendance at the PAEB meeting. Registratin and accmmdatin csts fr the ASMMIRT are the respnsibility f the PAEB member. PAEB members attending ASMMIRT events are required t register, adjudicate and actively participate. Dcuments fr meetings and telecnferences are generally circulated n DcSYS (the AIR s agenda management system) r . Hardcpy dcuments can be mailed t yu, but please prvide at least ne week s ntice f yur requirements t the Hnrary Secretary. The agenda fr mst meetings is relatively standard. While it appears lengthy, a number f items are standing agenda items and require little r n discussin 2

4 New Member Orientatin Guide 2014 PAEB Rles The PAEB has a Chair and an Hnrary Secretary. The PAEB s BD liaisn and chair f the PAEB will maintain nging cmmunicatin. Members f the PAEB will be delegated specific tasks and/r prtflis as apprpriate. This ensures that the wrklad is distributed fairly and that all members participate in PAEB activities. All PAEB dcuments remain draft dcuments until endrsed by the Bard f Directrs. Lines f cmmunicatin with the state branches shuld be enabled, either directly thrugh the PAEB membership r via the BD state representatives At each PAEB meeting, representatives prvide a brief verbal reprt f activities in their State. This might include an update f educatin activities, and any brader issues ccurring at a State level. PAEB discuss nging matters using fra as apprpriate. Members f the PAEB are expected t participate in activities and discussins relating t bth medical imaging and radiatin therapy. 3

6 New Member Orientatin Guide 2014 Cnflict f Interest and Cnfidentiality PAEB members are expected t exercise sund prfessinal judgement in withdrawing frm discussins r abstaining frm vting where items cnsidered by PAEB may present a cnflict f interest. It is critical that PAEB members appreciate that the items cnsidered by PAEB are kept cnfidential. A cnfidentiality agreement must be signed by all members prir t any active PAEB undertakings. Husekeeping PAEB members are reimbursed fr sme csts assciated with PAEB activities; these csts may include: Airfares and accmmdatin, which are arranged by the AIR Secretariat using the Travel Request Frm. Telephne Pstage Statinery Travel t and frm airprts when attending meetings including airprt parking fees. Taxi vuchers can be prvided. 5

7 New Member Orientatin Guide 2014 When attending PAEB meetings, yu are paid a Subsistence Allwance ($60 per day) fr each day that yu are away frm hme n PAEB business. Members wh travel fr mre than half the day (i.e. depart prir t 1200 midday) are entitled t claim that day als. T seek reimbursement fr these csts yu shuld submit a Reimbursement Claim Frm with receipts t the AIR Secretariat. The AIR preferentially uses Qantas Airlines. Thse PAEB members wh fly regularly may wish t cnsider jining the Qantas Frequent Flyer Prgramme. Crprate membership f Qantas Club is available fr thse wh wish t make travelling a little mre cmfrtable; further details are available frm the Executive Officer. Yu will find that being a PAEB member can be hard wrk but it is a wrthwhile experience. We hpe that yu enjy being a member f the PAEB. 6
