The following are examples of activities on offer this week for Templeton staff. Wiki Construction Mr Crilly led the whole staff in How to construct a Wiki on Monday afternoon. All year levels now have a teacher in charge of uploading and monitoring the year level s Wiki that all parents will be able to access. On the Wiki will be information pertinent to the level, including notices, important dates, homework and work samples. Curriculum Day Wednesday s Curriculum Day focussed on the Victorian version of the Australian Curriculum (AusVELS), the introduction in 2014 of Science and History to the curriculum and planning across the whole school. It was a very fruitful day with a great deal of discussion, learning, planning and documenting. Parents will soon see the changes when Term Planners are posted on the school s website and grade level wikis. Many of our part-time and Casual Relief teachers attended on their non-teaching day, including Mrs Grasso, Mrs Taylor, Mrs Wilcock, Mrs Watkins, Mrs Webster, Mrs Neil and Mrs Moore. This certainly ensures continuity when regular staff members are away. Thank you to all of the Templeton teachers for their involvement in and commitment to the day. Congratulations to Mr Parker and Mr Crilly for their organisation, leadership and inspiring presentations.

2 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL S DESK: Write to Read Mr Dawson and Mrs Zhang are continuing their Professional Development by attending Write to Read today and Saturday. This is a five day course about the Phonics program taught at Templeton. Asthma All staff will attend an annual one hour session on Monday to keep up to date with the treatment of asthmatics Enrolments We are currently taking applications for 2015 enrolments. As you are aware we close the process at the end of May which allows us to notify all families of the outcome by the end of Term 2. Successful applicants are then eligible to participate in our extensive Transition Program. If you have a younger sibling of a current student due to commence next year please collect an enrolment form directly from the office and return it by the due date. Family Contact Details We would like to request that any change in home address, phone or work number/s please be updated at the office as soon as possible. 4 2014 PREMIER S READING CHALLENGE Reading is an essential life skill for everyone and the Challenge encourages families to be actively involved in supporting children to read. The aim of the Challenge is to promote a love of reading. Children must read the required number of books, at an appropriate level and record their efforts online. Students in Prep to Year 2 need to read or experience 30 books (20 or more from the Challenge book list), while students in Years 3 6 must read 15 books (10 or more books from the list). There are 9,000 titles on the Challenge book list. We would like to have all forms returned before the end of Term 1. Students have until the 1 st September to complete the Challenge. STUDENT COUNCIL NEWS The Student Councillors are reminding everyone that icy poles will be available on Friday March 28 th and April 4 th. Icy poles are 50c each and available on the basketball court. The funds raised will be put towards new sports equipment for classrooms Student Councillors Xtreme Air Trampoline Park is now taking bookings for school holiday program groups. Xtreme Air, Melbourne s largest trampoline park features a large Free Jump Area, 4 slam dunk lanes, 3 dodgeball courts and 6 foam pit lanes. Uniquely, Xtreme Air provide a structured environment where children are grouped together by age and size and taken around to the different courts with a designated Court Monitor. In an hour session, children will have 15 minutes in each court. We believe this is much safer for jumpers as they will only be jumping with others of similar size and age. Xtreme Air do not ask School Holiday Programs to pay in advance. Simply pay for the children you have on the day via cheque, cash or credit card.
