4 A dollop of history Aceco TI was established in 1972 as a Computer Accessories and Equipment company, when the information technology was taking its first steps both in the world and Brazil. At the time, the few and expensive existing computers used perforated cards. Aceco TI started up by making especially designed furniture to receive the new equipment and special lockers to store the cards. Then up came the Tape Seal magnetic tapes and the need to store, secure and organize them. So Aceco TI created sliding files to better store those tapes. The dependence on the so-called Data Processing Centers (DPC) started to intensify and the risk to lose their data content became unacceptable. This spurred a partnership with Lampertz, to manufacture media safes and, next, the building of Data Rooms with its own, exclusive technology, to protect Data Centers against physical risks to data, such as fire, dust, water, undue access, theft and others. The technology, now called IT, became key to continue to deliver public and private services and for the continuity of corporate businesses. Besides the physical security, it was necessary to acclimatize the environment, as all equipment generated and still generate considerable heat, and develop redundancies in the distribution systems to prevent blackouts. Moreover, many companies also found that they needed to dedicate specific buildings to their IT, the so-called mission critical buildings. 8 Data Center Types Mission critical buildings MISSION CRITICAL Exclusive, totally dedicated buildings to a Data Center and other IT environments. 16 L&M Engenharia has been on the installation design and management market for 17 years, serving the air conditioning, plumbing, power and special infrastructure areas, known as mission critical facilities. Revit: Credited by many engineers, designers and technicians of the area as being a very simple tool to produce very precise architectonic project drawings, Revit allows establishing links between complex constructive concepts with the help of 3D tools. The tool allows the user to enter the door of a future room and watch the walls move automatically on command. The perspective comes up naturally along the drawing and may be rendered at the end. The result is a project with higher quality carried out in a short period of time. GAP Analysis: The L&M Engineers take a picture of the client s installation and stack it up against what may be done according to the good practices of the market, especially regarding matters such as reliability and availability, as set by the Uptime Institute. Moreover, the PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness), the installation energy efficiency ratio and power density and the relation between the installed capacity at the client s versus the necessary capacity, are assessed. Many companies work with a higher capacity than needed and even so they do not succeed to operate correctly. It is as if they had a truck unable to carry a small load. Assessment: Conceptual Projects: L&M Engenharia has developed a methodology of infrastructure surveying and analysis that includes, basically, the following steps: 1. Initial surveys and issuing of the preliminary report. This stage includes a meeting with the client to survey data about the existing Data Center, the main technical requirements, project premises and study of the current situation. 2. Comments by the client and issuance of the final report. The preliminary report undergoes an analysis and comments by the client so that compliance with the survey s goals may be checked. 3. The enterprise s commercial assessment, with a description of its current cost, based on market values; commercial assessment of establishing a new Data Center with the same features; and commercial assessment for possible improvements of the support systems. Operating on biofuel, diesel or gas, the generators also provide power to the cooling system and UPS. The gensets are designed to deliver the lowest possible PUE, leading to power savings and lower operating costs to the Data Center. A Data Center s power infrastructure requires high reliability and availability. The higher the quality and redundancy level of this system, the lower its vulnerability to failures. Aceco TI designs highly efficient power systems with low PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and all redundant sub-systems certified by the Uptime Institute and TÜV Rheinland. To work with power, Aceco TI follows the ABNT NR 10 security standards, the regulatory norm that includes all phases of power production and all works performed with power or near it. UPS - The UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply), also known as no-breaks, keep the Data Center power on until the generators start delivering power. Such equipment may be installed only for critical charges and also for the cooling system. Designed to meet the lowest possible PUE of the project, the UPS may be conventional, modular or dynamic (directly coupled to the generators, dispensing with the use of batteries). Power CONTROL panels - Designed according to the PTTA or TTA standards and recommendations from TIA 942, the power control panels installed by Aceco TI are made to minimize blackouts. They are equipped with thermomagnetic plug-in circuit breakers that may be removed without requiring the whole system to turn off, making maneuvers and maintenance easier

20 maintenance consultancy project / design automation moving implementation certification commissioning data room / DCMPF COOLING RACK COOLING - The LCP (Liquid Cooling Package) is a modular cooling system for racks. It uses cool water to uniformly refrigerate high-density heat servers, such as blades. Since servers and other IT equipment dissipate much heat into the environment, Data Centers need a special, precise technical cooling that keeps the room temperature and humidity at constant levels guaranteeing the equipment and data integrity. Aceco TI works with different, complementary cooling technologies, as the 3R (Room Cooling, Row Cooling and Rack Cooling) concept and free Cooling in gasor water-based systems. FREE COOLING - The Free Cooling technology sets apart from others due especially to its energy efficiency, as it uses the very air from the outside environment to refrigerate the Data Center. The Free Cooling systems used by Aceco TI are indirect, i.e., the environment air does not get directly into the Data Center, as it is used only in the outside area, in the dry cooler. Thus, the environment is not exposed to risks and the internal temperature and humidity may be better controlled. ROW COOLING - The Row Cooling systems confine cold air passageways into server rack rows. It is a sustainable solution as it leads to better performance and power economy to the cooling system. ROOM COOLING - The Room Cooling is the cooling for server rooms which, besides keeping the environment s temperature and humidity stable, saves physical space and power. WATER & GAS SYSTEMS - Most cooling systems may use cooling water or gas. The water system works through fan coils, which insufflate cold air into the Data Center, and chillers, which cool the water. Chillers may be operated with air or water. On the other hand, refrigerating gas cooling systems make the external air condensation via condensers and, the internal one, by water, via dry coolers

Their installation is totally mapped out and documented, making future consultations or maintenance works easier. FIRE DETECTION AND FIGHTING - Using artificial intelligence, the Stratos early fire detection system analyzes air particles with a sensibility 300 times higher than conventional detectors, assessing the possibility of combustion way before any sign of fire. The Stratos works linked to the fire fighting system, which shoots the fighting gas only in case the risk is confirmed by two distinct loops. Aceco TI also uses dry-pipe and conventional sprinklers for less critical environments. ACCESS CONTROL AND CCTV - The Data Center projects developed by Aceco TI are aimed at integrating the access control and closed circuit TV to the BMS (Building Management System) of the clients. The company uses advanced recording technologies, thus avoiding failures, theft and sabotage. It also has access control systems based on biometrics or iris reading, as well as smart cards. The CCTV monitors both the interior and the exterior of the Data Center. In Certifying Authorities, the recording, made in redundant environment with automatic backups, is digital and integrated to the access control

Their criticity requires a fail-proof high availability. Technical furniture The technical furniture is prepared for critical environments operating 24x7. It modularly allows accommodating information technology equipment, distributing cabling and meeting the NR 17 ergonomics standard. 1. Control Center Environment that oversees, controls, commands and coordinates operations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. LCD Wall LCD s with multiple captures via IP network of applications and embedded processors are used, thus dispensing with the need of a graphical manager. Coordinator Room The official who coordinates the Integrated Command and Control Center (CICC) operations. It is a product certified in Brazil by ABNET NBR and accredited by INMETRO. In Europe, the Data Room has received the ECB-S EN certification and DAkkS accreditation. Data Centers established in non-mission critical buildings require the tested and certified security of the Data Room, as they are exposed to several risks, such as water leaks, fires and explosions that may originate from environments such as WC s, kitchens and mess halls. In a fire, the so-called secure rooms stop the fire but not the heat that irradiates into them. Also, they cannot avoid the increase of the internal humidity and are not sufficiently impervious to avoid the penetration of corrosive gases and even the water used by firefighters. As a result, the so-called secure rooms do not keep the critical limits of 75º C and 85% of internal humidity in case of a fire. ABNT Certificate Now the Data Room is a modular, scalable and impervious environment, tested against fire, water, robbery, heat and explosions.
