2 EVENING CLASSES FOR We have an exciting range of certificated and leisure courses to enhance your learning, gain confidence or just for pure enjoyment. Cuisine These evening cooking classes are a great way to brush up your skills in the kitchen. They take place on one night and you will learn kitchen skills and how to read and interpret recipes along with a multitude of tips and ideas. Fundamental skills are learnt and reinforced as you cook your way through the 12 week course. Cooking for Friends In this class you ll learn a wide range of industry tips, tricks and techniques for creating the perfect dinner party dishes. On completion you will be awarded a SVQ unit award, all ingredients and equipment will be provided. Tupperware box / containers pm /09/15 Baking for Beginners Cook and finish simple dough and bread products and on completion you will be awarded a SQA unit award, all ingredients and equipment will be provided. You will have coffee and pastries on arrival and meet your chef for the morning; they will cook and present a dish, for you to then cook for yourself to have for lunch. Followed by a question and answer session. The following week s recipes will come from the question and answer sessions. 3 The National Progression Award in Computer Networks and Systems at SCQF level 5 focuses on the technical skills required to safely work with a range of computer hardware and network components, and highlights the importance of problem solving using troubleshooting techniques. NPA in Computer Networks and Systems The NPA introduces candidates to the practical skills involved in setting up, maintaining and upgrading computer systems as well as some basic knowledge of the structure of a computer system. Candidates will gain an understanding of how to correctly install and configure a range of system software, such as operating systems, the wide variety and classification of application software, and the methods of obtaining software and the legal issues involved. They will also gain practical skills in setting up a small computer network using appropriate methodology and select tools to test and troubleshoot a small network installation. The award consists of the following three units: Install and Maintain Computer Hardware. Install and Maintain Computer Software. Computer Networking Fundamentals hours for 36 01/09/15 Yes The National Progression Award in Web Design Fundamentals at SCQF level 5 focuses on the technical skills required for the creation of websites, animation, graphics and interactive media, and highlights the importance of the design process. NPA Web Design Fundamentals This NPA introduces candidates to the fundamental knowledge and skills, and technical and design issues involved in web design. Candidates will gain an understanding of design principles, copyright law and technical standards. They will also gain practical skills in a range of software applications used in the development of websites, including graphics packages, web authoring tools and animation software hours for 36 02/09/15 Yes The award consists of the following three units: Interactive Multimedia for Website Design Website Design and Development Web Design Fundamentals. The National Progression Award in Digital Media Editing at SCQF level 5 will offer candidates a knowledge and understanding of acquiring and editing digital media elements in a fundamental area within the digital media area. This award will also introduce candidates to a range of tools to acquire various digital elements from a range of different sources. NPA in Digital Media Editing The award focuses on technical skills in the creation and editing of a range of content with a computing slant but also emphasises the importance of the design process and soft skills such as interviewing and responding to feedback. Candidates will develop an appreciation of reflective practice, as well as being able to produce an aesthetically pleasing product. The NPA has been created to match the requirements of creating and editing digital media elements in a safe and legitimate manner whether at home or in a formal educational setting. The course is delivered with regard to current legislation and health and safety guidelines. 4 National 5 Mathematics National 5 Mathematics is a one-year course designed to build on knowledge and understanding carried out at Standard Grade/National 4 level Mathematics so as to lead on to Higher Grade Mathematics. The course aims to apply the mathematical skills and reasoning developed to problems based on real-life scenarios. Military Fitness Boot Camp This course is run by our own ex-army Sergeant who will work you into a frenzy taking you through basic fitness training, through circuits and high impact exercise. t for the faint hearted but for the fun of it. Gym wear pm /08/15 N/A Introduction to Manicure Techniques This programme of study will introduce you to basic manicure skills required for all nail technicians. You will learn about the nail structure while learning how to recognise a range of hand and nail conditions. You will learn all the techniques required to perform basic manicure techniques for clients. On successful completion of this programme you will be able to progress to the Nail Extensions course. Products supplied by college, students will be encouraged to build their own tools (files etc). College will provide information on optional kits /09/15 N/A Nail Extensions All students must have a certificate in basic manicure. This programme will develop your ability to apply various artificial nail extensions including gel and acrylic systems. You will be expected to work on clients, working to industry standards and timings. This unit is part of the HNC Beauty Therapy framework. Students will be required to purchase our CND kit for nails which includes materials to complete 40 sets of nails and a set of CND nail tools: total cost /02/16 TBC Barbering (SVQ 2) This practical hands-on programme of study incorporates theory, demonstrations and hands-on workshops over two years leading to the SVQ 2 Barbering qualification. You will receive personal guidance and monitoring throughout the course to ensure you are developing the required practical skills. An interactive online resource is available to support your barbering studies. The course includes: Cutting techniques, Clipper work, Shampoo and conditioning, Consultation skills and Styling techniques. 5 DIY Introduction to Counselling A 12 course, validated by SQA, that stands alone, but also provides an entry level qualification to the C.O.S.C.A. Certificate level Counselling course. It uses a Person-Centred Approach, in particular the methods of Carl Rogers & Gerard Egan. The course provides an opportunity to develop inter-personal skills, selfawareness, and theoretical knowledge. Half brick, one brick walling, block work, coating and arch construction /10/15 DIY Painting & Decorating Introduction to basic skills involved in the preparation of and application to a range of surfaces /10/15 Wood Graining & Marbling An 8 workshop-based course aimed at the professional painter & decorator, decorating enthusiast or those interested in the decorative arts. It will develop the learners skills & knowledge of the painted imitation of wood & marble. During the practical session students will use various techniques to manipulate water based glazes to produce different woods & marbles, including straight grain & heart grain mahogany, heart grain & quartered oak, white Carrera, Portoro & Sienna marble. All materials, tools & gloves will be supplied. You will complete a number of sample panels to take home with you. This includes skills in automotive engineering principles and technologies; an in-depth knowledge of the vehicular systems; and understanding of components and integration of the associated systems.
