2 Skilled Training Pathways The WesTEC Trade Training Centre (WTTC) aims to be Ipswich s lead training facility for future focussed secondary students. The WTTC delivers programs of study in: construction engineering automotive It provides vocational qualification and tertiary pathways, preparing students for the workplace or further education and training. By working with industry and our education and training partners WTTC will develop and deliver high quality programs to students designed with industry aimed at meeting the needs of industry. At WesTEC students don t just do a course our training goes beyond basic delivery and training, having students further develop a range of industry focussed skills. Teachers are industry professionals who deliver excellent quality training for our students. Our current partners in Education and Training Pathways: Forest Lake State High School Redbank Plains State High School Springfield Central State High School Woodcrest State College Bremer TAFE Benefits to Students: By including a pathway at the WesTEC in your Senior Phase program, you will have the opportunity to: access personal development program supporting you with preparation and entry to the workforce access a wider range of learning options through school gain credit points towards your Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) participate in articulated programs of study with direct entry to additional fields of study gain real vocational skills and qualifications while completing your QCE gain a competitive edge in the employment market gain credit towards further TAFE learn from qualified industry professionals participate in Structured Workplace Learning on-the-job. EXPRESSION OF INTEREST WesTEC is taking expressions of interest for courses we plan to offer but can t confirm availability until later in the year for some delivery. Costs cannot be confirmed at this stage and are given as a guideline only. Students interested in WesTEC courses for 2014 are asked to complete the Expression of Interest and return to their school coordinator by Monday 14 October. Students and parents are then expected to attend an information session in the Woodcrest State College Auditorium at 5.30pm on Wednesday 16 October when full enrolment applications will be provided. 3 Construction Certificate I in Construction (CPC 10111) This qualification provides an introduction to the construction industry, its culture, occupations, job roles and workplace expectations. Features :00am 4:00pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday WesTEC Centre Compulsory Vocational Placement Minimum of 3 credits to Queensland Certificate of Education Tool kit cost for Vocational Placement is additional Job roles / employment outcomes Certificate I in Construction is intended for learners with no previous connection to the construction industry or relevant employment history. It is intended to prepare and develop skills in entry level work in general construction. Successful completion of the program may provide credit into a school-based, fulltime or part time apprenticeship in the construction industry. Cost $250 -$300. Exact cost to be advised at parent information session Wednesday 16 October. Entry Requirements This program has limited places for entry in Students entering into the program will require: A result of Sound or higher in Year 10 English A result of Sound or higher in Year 10 Maths and be capable of undertaking Maths A in Year 11 An interview with a representative from Construction Skills Queensland PPE requirements / uniform Steel capped boots Industrial quality shorts/long trousers Industrial quality shirt supplied (with collar and sleeves no t-shirts) Clear Safety glasses
