20 20 MAINZ was brilliant. I still think it s the number one music performance school in New Zealand. MEL PARSONS Singer Songwriter When she can, singersongwriter Mel Parsons heads home to recharge, but much of the time she lives out of a suitcase, touring and performing all over the world. Mel s passion is music, telling stories through song, reaching out to and drawing her audience in. And judging by the lush sounds and lyricism of her latest album Drylands (released April 2015), her reputation is set to soar. Mel was already focused on a career in music when she moved to Auckland in 2002 to do the Diploma in Contemporary Music Performance. MAINZ was brilliant. I still think it s the number one music performance school in New Zealand. It offers practical, hands-on training, fully grounded in reality. She thrived at MAINZ, honing her performance skills, starting to build a repertoire of original songs, learning from and alongside like-minded people. One of the most valuable things about studying at MAINZ is the connections you make. The tutors also work in the industry, they live the experience, and the friends you make are the people you re in business with. Mel s followed her dream and life is good. I feel very, very fortunate to be able to make it work.

25 25 I d recommend MAINZ to anyone who s serious about a musical life. OSCAR FUNTWO LIM Musician and Web Star When Oscar Funtwo Lim s guitar rock interpretation of Pachelbel s Canon was uploaded to YouTube millions of people discovered his music. Web stardom opened up many opportunities and inspired the largely selftaught guitarist to make music his career. Oscar chose the Diploma in Contemporary Music Performance because he wanted to learn essential skills, discover the fundamentals of the music industry and gain real world experience. It was an obvious choice. MAINZ is where all the secrets are revealed. He rates interacting with other musicians, both students and tutors, being forced out of his comfort zone and participating in live performances as highlights of his MAINZ experience. I d recommend MAINZ to anyone who s serious about a musical life. It s a place where you discover your potential and it s also a place where you find hidden strengths. Although Oscar no longer shies away from performing live, he s currently focused on making his first album and building his online presence via the Funtwo website and YouTube. My goal is to produce interesting videos to enhance the message of my music. I m not only performing, I m also in the process of making a series of video tutorials showing guitar playing tips and techniques.
