Studying Music Technology prepares you for a career in the Music Industry, teaching you professional skills and techniques in a range of subjects. Our courses will cover a wide range of skills including recording, mixing, mastering, PA setup, stage management, music production, music business skills and many other areas. While on the course you will record music in a professional studio and at live events, arrange gigs and tours for professional bands, create music using Logic Pro X and Ableton Live, learn how to work as a freelancer and run a professional quality live sound system. On our Music Technology courses you will also get the chance to attend a number of industry exhibitions, visit recording studios, work with local bands and showcase your music production work. For more information about our Music Technology Study Programmes visit or call About Us Huntingdonshire Music School has been established since 1966 providing individually tailored and joint practical and theory by professional music tutors. We also run a range of groups and ensembles of varying standards which are open to all - any age, any ability. All tutors are CRB checked in accordance with the current child protection legislation of Huntingdonshire Regional College. Many of our past students credit Huntingdonshire Music School as being the platform for their musical careers. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn and perform in a friendly, relaxed and fun environment. Aural is taught as part of preparation for exams by our instrumental teacher. If you feel you want extra or wish to do higher grades in theory we can arrange individual theory and aural lessons if required. Please contact us for details. Groups and Ensembles Playing an instrument with others can be very beneficial no matter what age you are. It can increase concentration, improve listening skills and promotes social skills. We have a range of ensembles for you to join depending upon your instrument and ability. Come along to any of our groups and try for free for your first week. With the exception of Folk Group, our ensembles run on a Saturday morning. Grade 1 5 Theory A term consists of ten lessons. Advice regarding payment of fees will be sent to you by prior to commencement of each term. Fees will only be reimbursed if the lesson is not delivered by the Music School. Please keep us updated if your personal details change. We accept cheques, credit or debit card payments in Reception on Saturday mornings. Cheques should be made payable to Huntingdonshire Regional College. Music Technology For information on pricing, please contact Huntingdonshire Regional College on Huntingdonshire Music School Association Bursary Scheme Introduction Music education is a costly business and making music as a hobby is similarly expensive. Tuition at the Music School is run at cost and is reasonably priced to be competitive. However, we acknowledge that it could be beyond the reach of many prospective students. Code of practice for Bursary Management Bursaries will be managed by a sub-committee comprising the Chair and Treasurer of HuMSA and the Coordinator of the Music School. This is to maintain confidentiality. Any conditions which may be imposed by the donor(s) are to be recorded and strictly adhered to. No student may receive more than a single bursary via HuMSA in a single year and the student must disclose any other bursaries which he/she is receiving. Bursaries are not paid until the student can demonstrate more than one term s commitment to learning and practising. This normally means that bursaries will be paid in the third term of each year of learning. Bursaries are paid for a single year only but students can re-apply in subsequent years. All bursaries are conditional on maintaining good attendance at Music School lessons and in maintaining adequate practice with the instrument. All bursaries are paid to the College to the credit of the individual student s fee account, not direct to the student. Bursaries are awarded to students who are taking instrumental lessons at Huntingdonshire Music School. This means that bursaries are not awarded to those who are only participating in ensembles and/or theory classes. Teachers will be required to countersign the form to confirm attendance and progress. Current Bursaries (note that this sub-section will be updated regularly): Huntingdon Freemen. This charity provides a subsidy for students who are under the age of 16 and live within the ancient town boundaries. Essentially, this is the A14 to the west and north, the River Ouse to the south and the A141 to the east. No detailed reason is required on the application. 6 7

5 Music in Schools We provide music lessons and activities in schools across Cambridgeshire. Making music in the early and primary years increases listening and concentration skills and enhances a child s ability to discriminate between sounds. In addition to the musical benefits, this improves phonetic awareness and helps to develop language and literacy skills. There is also a positive impact on spatial reasoning. This is linked to mathematical thinking and on physical co-ordination which supports handwriting skills. Music making in small groups promotes teamwork and the development of leadership skills while pupils confidence can be enhanced if they are given opportunities to perform. To apply for lessons within your school, please complete the application form within this leaflet and hand it to the school receptionist. Primary Schools Instruments being taught include: woodwind, brass, singing, piano, violin, guitar, recorder and drums. Lessons are provided in small groups of three or more for beginners and individual is available for those students who have already had prior lessons or who are at a more advanced level. Price list: 30 minutes From 65 per term. Individual lessons are available (see page 6 for further details). Some instruments are available to hire from the Music School, subject to availability. Lessons will be provided each week at your child s school, a term consists of ten lessons. HUMS Association A registered charity, we were founded in 2006 with the aim of supporting the Music School and its students to achieve their goals. 5 ways HuMSA supports you: 1. Performance Skills We organise and manage end of term concerts, demonstration days and other music school events to provide performance opportunities: Improve your performance skills in public or college settings Develop your confidence in a friendly and supportive environment Invite family and friends to see you perform. 2. Musical Development We arrange one-off workshops, such as sing with swing and improvisation, award prizes to recognise musical achievements and help get ideas for other exciting events off the ground: Develop technical skills in areas of special interest Try new musical disciplines and meet new people. 3. Added Value We augment the Music School by funding specialist equipment and sheet music to enhance your musical experience: Discover a broad range of musical styles and composers Make use of quality, fit-for-purpose equipment. 4. Making Friends Following other successful tours, in 2014 we arranged a visit to Marburg in Germany, where our students performed and enjoyed the sights and culture together. HuMSA offers lots of opportunities to mix in a social setting, such as: Quiz nights Themed evenings National and European trips. 5. Community Involvement We encourage Music School students to get involved in performing at local events, raising funds for local charities and inspiring local people to try instruments at events including: Taster days in local libraries Community festivals and school fêtes Fundraising events such as a grade one-athon.
