3 LEAN ENTERPRISE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM Courses Overview of Lean Enterprise (online) This introduction to Lean Enterprise concepts is an online course that will provide the basic lean principles and is a recommended prerequisite to any of the courses that make up the Lean Enterprise Certificate Program. This will ensure you will be introduced to the basic Lean concepts and can take the other courses out of sequence. Upon completion of this course, you will have a general understanding of the complete Lean Enterprise model and the components. You will also have examined the customer impact on the lean process flow. Learned lean approach Applied knowledge of the Lean Enterprise Should be completed prior to taking any of the other courses required for Lean Certification Introduction to Lean, Lean Concepts, Lean Tools, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Supply Chain Management, Implementation of Lean, Lean and Six Sigma, and Course Examination Autonomation (The Quality Principle) Autonomation is automatic with a human touch. The quality principle the combination of several elements to guarantee that only 100% quality is produced. When a problem is detected the process will stop automatically or with a human intervention until the situation is corrected. This two-day, hands-on course will provide you with key elements of the concepts in a classroom setting. This three-day program will provide an in-depth analysis of the key elements that are part of this system. You will attain knowledge and application experience in the areas of One Piece Flow, Pull System, and the Kanban Mail System. There will be an exam at the conclusion of the course to test for knowledge and understanding of the concepts delivered. It sets the baseline and starts the communication that is necessary to eliminate waste from processes, operations, procedures and work methods. Baseline data is used to measure performance and make improvements. This information-packed, three-day program will focus on concepts that will help you put in place the basics of standardized work processes beginning with organization and safety getting your house in order and setting baseline information through documenting the processes and operations. Standardized work is the first step towards Kaizen and sets the foundation for that valuable process. There will be an exam at the conclusion of course to test for knowledge and understanding of the concepts delivered. 6 LEAN ENTERPRISE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is productive maintenance with total participation. It involves maximizing equipment effectiveness, using productive maintenance to focus on equipment life cycles, coordination of all departments, total involvement and team-based activities resulting in zero losses. This valuable two-day course will cover the key elements of this lean concept. You will get a practical overview, plus discuss the Big 6 Losses, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and Autonomous Maintenance. TPM is productive maintenance with total participation; it involves maximizing equipment effectiveness, using productive maintenance to focus on equipment life cycles, coordination of all departments, and total involvement and team-based activities resulting in zero loss. The course will conclude with an exam to test for knowledge of the concepts delivered. This fictional simulation is based on the Contemporary Manufacturing Company (CMC) that produces a complete line of sheet metal brackets used throughout industry for a variety of applications. The Simulation is a two-day, hands-on workshop that provides you the opportunity to apply lean concepts in a case study environment. The class will help the company (CMC) change its old way of performing due to pressures of competition, customers and escalating production costs. You will address the issues by maximizing the use of the lean concepts learned throughout the certification process. Participants must complete Lean Courses One through Five (1-5) prior to attending this simulation course. 7 LEAN ENTERPRISE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM Kaizen (Continuous Improvement) This course is a two-part event. In the first part of the Continuous Improvement course, you will step through the process of performing a Kaizen event. Kaizen is a way of institutionalizing the Lean Enterprise to improve your operations, stay competitive, increase capacity, or surpass your competition. In the second part of the course, you will examine the results of the Kaizen events performed at your own work locations. Participating in both Kaizen courses will allow students the opportunity to: Learn about the Kaizen philosophy and origins, define the five reasons for implementing Kaizen, and identify, analyze and eliminate waste. Discover how to use the 7-step Kaizen process to make improvements. Use the tools and methods that are part of a Kaizen event. Perform a Kaizen event at their work location. 8 Lean Enterprise Executive Management Program Lean Process Methodology for Leaders This course is designed for Leaders of Lean Enterprise initiatives within their organizations. This course provides a succinct look at the overall Lean Methodologies that are used in the implementation and ongoing lean improvements. The objective is to provide leaders with a a basic understanding of these concepts to improve and expand the implementation of Lean efforts throughout their companies. Class participants will experience the 7 Steps of Kaizen through practical exercises; perform basic Standardized Work, leveling and workload balancing through practical classroom exercises; study how the overall Management Deployment System and its elements drive the Lean Process; and discover what is necessary to successfully implement Lean within their organizations. 10 FACULTY INCLUDES WILLIAM PETTY, MBA, CSCP, became a full-time Clinical Instructor of Operations Management at The University of Alabama in August 2007, after having served as a Field Engineer for the Alabama Productivity Center. Starting his career in Industrial Engineering, he migrated to the accounting area and has been the Controller for 13 different companies in the Midwest and South, ranging from a grocery chain to a cookie/snack company to an armored car company to a produce processor to a steel fabricator to ZF Lemforder Corporation located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama (a supplier to Mercedes-Benz). Mr. Petty has 35 years of experience in relating the financial/controllership function to resource management in different industrial settings. He received both his bachelor s degree in Industrial Management and MBA in Operations Management from the University of Cincinnati. Mr. Petty completed his third year as the President of the West Alabama Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) in 2007 and has served on the board of IMA in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. He has also served as Vice President on the board of the Gulf South Council of the IMA which serves about 3000 members in 16 chapters in the Southeastern states. He has been an active member of the APICS organization for over twenty years having served in most capacities on the board including President of the Cincinnati Chapter. He is currently a Vice President in the BAMA Chapter of APICS in Birmingham. In 2008, he became certified as a CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) through the APICS organization. DIANNA SMITH, MBA, SIX SIGMA MASTER BLACK BELT, is Chief Operating Officer and part owner of Donald E. Smith Associates, Inc., a business management consulting firm specializing in process improvement initiatives using the Lean Six Sigma Methodology. She is a multi-talented consultant and senior management leader with over 30 years of experience working in industry. She is a dynamic, energetic individual whose expertise in understanding and managing the dynamics of change has saved companies millions of dollars. Ms. Smith is skilled at applying Six Sigma and Total Quality Management principles to corporate process improvement initiatives and meeting facilitation, interventions, project management, team participation, strategic planning, training development and delivery. Dianna delivers Six Sigma Process Improvement courses both Green Belt and Black Belt, Champions Training and numerous leadership courses. She provides application support and coaching of projects. Dianna successfully negotiated with the U.S. EPA regarding environmental self-disclosure issues resulting in a cost avoidance of several million dollars. She successfully managed a massive re-engineering effort to outsource non-core processes for a large telecommunications company resulting in $22 million saved. Ms. Smith holds an M.B.A. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She is a Cum Laude graduate of UAB in Business Management. Dianna was selected as one of 2,000 Notable American Women in She is a recipient of the 2007 Teaching Excellence Award from The University of Alabama, College of Continuing Studies. She is among the first to be certified in The Great Discovery, Coach and Facilitator, The Fourth Generation of Six Sigma in DONALD SMITH, MBA, SIX SIGMA MASTER BLACK BELT, is the CEO/President and Founder of Donald E. Smith Associates, Inc., an international business management consulting firm specializing in Lean Six Sigma Process Improvement, Total Quality Management, and Leadership Development. Don has extensive experience in directing leadership teams at all organizational levels in the planning, design, and implementation of business process excellence systems, including Six Sigma and Lean Enterprise. Don is an accomplished and certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt and Black Belt facilitator who has coached process improvement teams at numerous companies across the globe. An active member of the American Society for Quality, Don is a charter member of the Service Industries Division and the Past Regional Counselor for Region 15. He is also a member of the Quality Management Division and the Human Resources Division of the ASQ. Don is a certified Total Quality Management and Quality Action Team facilitator. He has designed and delivered several internal and external workshops stressing TQM awareness and application. 11 GENERAL INFORMATION Registration The per person registration fee for the programs included in these certificate programs are as follows: 1-day programs, $595; 2-day programs, $1,195; and 3-day programs, $1,595. The fee for the online session is $395. Fees cover the cost of the sessions, handout materials, refreshment breaks and daily lunches. Lodging is the responsibility of the participant. A 10% discount is available for multiple registrations of 3 or more to any one seminar. (NOTE: Multiple registrations must be processed together for this discount to apply.) A 10% discount is also available for members of the C&BA Commerce Executive Society. Participants who register less than five working days prior to each program date should do so by phone to ensure confirmation of their registration. Treasury regulations may permit an income tax deduction for educational expenses (registration fees, travel, meals and lodging) undertaken to maintain or improve professional skills. Certificate Program Requirement Graduation Criteria: 1. Attend all required days of course work within the specified period. 2. Complete all work as assigned. 3. Be present at all class activities. (For a documented emergency a participant can miss up to 1 1/2 hours of the scheduled time and still graduate.) 4. Satisfactorily complete all examinations (70% or better). Schedule Registration/check-in will be from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. on the first day of each program. Sessions run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily with a one hour break for lunch. Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Credit The CEU (non-credit) has been designed to recognize the efforts made by individuals in approved continuing education programs. The courses have been assigned.7 CEUs for each day of course work. Upon your request and payment of a $10 fee (per course), you may receive a certificate of completion which identifies the number of CEUs awarded. CEUs will not be awarded for partial attendance. Location and Lodging All programs will be held in the Bryant Conference Center, 240 Bryant Drive, a premier learning facility located on The University of Alabama campus in Tuscaloosa. While at the Bryant Conference Center (BCC), make plans to visit the Paul W. Bryant Museum directly adjacent to the Center. Parking From I-20/59, take the McFarland Boulevard/US 82 exit and proceed north to the University Boulevard interchange. Exit and turn right. Stay on University Boulevard down the hill and turn left on Second Avenue. Open parking will be on your left, the Bryant Conference Center complex on your right. In addition to the parking lot on Second Avenue, you may also park in the Coleman Coliseum Parking Lot and the Bryant Drive Parking Lot. You will be able to ride a Crimson Route bus from either of these lots to Second Avenue at the Bryant Conference Center. Registered participants will receive, upon registration confirmation, a Parking Permit to be displayed inside the participant s vehicle windshield. In the event the Parking Permit is not received prior to parking (in lots mentioned), please call Cancellations and Refunds If you must cancel, a full refund may be granted up to 10 working days prior to each session s start date. Thereafter, an administrative fee of 25% of the registration fee will be charged against your refund. Refunds cannot be made on the day a program begins, but a substitute participant may be designated. The University of Alabama reserves the right to cancel, postpone or combine class sections, to limit registration or to change instructors.
