Attention will be devoted to the development of AP curriculum, teaching strategies, and the relationship of the course to the AP Exam. The Institute provides tremendous curriculum staff development opportunities. Through this training, the AP teacher will receive content, skills, and strategies to connect students to college success. AP TEACHER INSTITUTE For new and experienced teachers June 20-23, 2011 AP Teacher workshops are planned for new and experienced AP teachers. All AP workshops will be housed in the Forestry & Wildlife Building on the Auburn University Campus. 3 REGISTRATION Courses will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Maximum enrollment for each course is 30 participants. Applications will be accepted until the course maximum is reached. HOUSING PARKING All applications must be accompanied by either full payment or a copy of the school or school system Purchase Order. Late registrants, after June 1, may or may not receive their College Board packet during the Institute; but packets will be ordered as soon as possible. Tip: We urge all participants to ensure that your school/school system sends us your application along with a copy of the purchase order promptly to avoid the possibility of the course being filled prior to our receipt of your application. THE PARTICIPANT S NAME MUST BE LISTED ON ALL CHECKS & PURCHASE ORDERS. You must make your own arrangements for lodging. A list of local hotels is posted on our website for your convenience. Affordable off-campus dorm style housing is available this year. Go to and click on lodging. All participants driving a car to campus will need a parking permit. These permits will allow you to park in a designated area on campus. While on campus, you may use the Tiger Transit System or walk to class. CLOTHNG AND CLIMATE Dress for class is casual and comfortable. Summer days in Auburn are hot and humid. All classrooms, however, are well air-conditioned, and because some can be cold, it is advisable to bring a sweater or jacket to class. CANCELED COURSES NOTE: We reserve the right to cancel courses with insufficient enrollment. Courses with insufficient enrollment will be canceled June 1, Participants in canceled courses will receive a full refund. All participants and schools will be notified by or US mail if their course is canceled. It is our policy to reimburse the individual or entity that paid the registration fee. No travel or personal expenses will be reimbursed. PARTICIPANT CANCELLATIONS If a registration is cancelled for any reason, the individual or organization making the original tuition payment will receive: (1) a full refund, less an administrative fee of $25, if the cancellation request is received in writing by June 1, 2011; (2) a refund of 50%, if the cancellation request is received in writing after June 1 but by June 15, 2011; (3) no refund for a 'No Show' or for a cancellation request received after June 15, Note: A registration may be transferred to another person. 3

4 AUBURN UNIVERSITY 2011 TEACHER TRAINING AP SUMMER INSTITUTE SCHEDULE Individuals completing workshops successfully will be awarded CEUs (Continuing Education Units) for the contact hours of instruction completed. Upon successful completion of your program, you will be provided a certificate indicating CEUs awarded. A transcript showing CEU awards can be obtained for $5 from the Office of Outreach Information & Program Certification, 201 OD Smith Hall, Auburn University, AL two weeks after completion of any training program. Please note that we do not give graduate or undergraduate academic credit for this institute. Please plan your arrival and departure using this schedule. Allow for a 2-hour commute to the Atlanta airport, 2 hour commute to the Birmingham airport, and 1.5 hour commute to the Montgomery airport. 5 2011 COLLEGE BOARD FELLOWS PROGRAM FOR AP SUMMER INSTITUTES The College Board AP Fellows program is an annual competitive grant program that provides scholarships for secondary school teachers planning to teach AP courses in schools that serve minority and/or low-income students who have been traditionally underrepresented in AP courses. The scholarships assist teachers with the cost of attending an AP Summer Institute. For a teacher to qualify, one of these must be true of the teacher's school: Fifty percent or more of the student population must consist of traditionally underrepresented students of color (African American, Hispanic, or Native American) Fifty percent or more of the student population must consist of students whose average family income level is equivalent to, or below, the national annual average for a lowincome family of four (approximately $36,000) The Summer Institutes provide an excellent opportunity for teachers to gain command of a specific AP subject and to receive up-to-date information on the latest curriculum changes. Each 2010 College Board AP Fellow will be offered a scholarship of $1,000 to attend a College Board endorsed AP Summer Institute. AP Incentive Program Additional resources may be available for AP teacher professional development through state and federal funds. Since 1998, federal and state legislators committed to equity and excellence in education have shown tremendous support for the Advanced Placement Program by providing funds in the form of AP incentive grants to support teacher professional development. To date, approximately 30 states provide funding opportunities for AP teachers to seek professional development. The states include Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Due to changing legislation, funding may also be available in other states. Preference may be given to applicants who are not eligible for state or federal AP teacher professional development funds. Restrictions Scholarships cannot be applied to Pre-AP Summer Institutes. If you have used a scholarship from the College Board Fellows program in the past three years you are not eligible to receive another scholarship this year.
