Applied Research Methods provides the knowledge, skills and tools needed to effectively undertake an action design research (ADR) project. Big & Analytics provides the ability to identify and prioritise opportunities to adopt Big technologies to deliver business value. Agile Project Delivery provides an insight into agile techniques and the macro and micro perspectives on agile project planning and delivery. Driven Design provides the ability to manage organisational data as a business asset through leading and advancing the data quality agenda in an organisation. Research Seminars in provides an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in data business from both the academic and practitioner perspective. Design Thinking & Process Improvement provides people-oriented skills and knowledge to design and manage agile businesses that exploit current opportunities and simultaneously explore for future opportunities. Programme Content Part 2: IMI / UCC MSc in (60 Credits) Throughout the 12 month duration of Part 2 of the course participants engage in an action design research project and attend 9 x 2 day monthly seminars. On successful completion of Part 2 participants should be able to: Analyse the potential value of quality data to a business. Identify and overcome inhibitors that are restricting data related value realisation. Develop, test and iterate various prototypes of a data business solution. Deliver a high impact data project. Develop an enterprise data strategy and translate that strategy into actionable tasks/projects. Demonstrate an ability to do rigorous research on a relevant data problem and present the resulting findings to different stakeholders/groups, orally and in writing. Prepare and deliver a research report in data business as well as demonstrate an ability to integrate knowledge and to analyse, assess and manage the research process. IMI Diploma in
6 Entry Requirements A candidate s suitability for the programme will be determined by a combination of their academic qualifications and / or relevant professional experience. Each applicant will be firstly required to comprehensively complete the IMI Portfolio of Learning form. A primary degree from a recognised third level institution (NFQ level 8) will typically be required with at least 3 years relevant industry experience, however, prior workplace learning will be recognised where applicants do not meet the academic requirement. Alternatively at least 5 years relevant experience at an appropriate managerial level is the requirement where the degree is not in the appropriate area (Information Systems/Information Technology). This experience may come from a general business or organisational background, involving information technology or experience in data management. Each proposed candidate will be considered on a case by case basis by the Programme Directors, who will interview applicants in person or by phone. The IMI Registrar s Office will oversee all applications and the final decision on any application rests with the Registrar. All applicants whose first language is not English will be required to show evidence of the successful completion of an IELTS or TOEFL test. The English language requirement for this programme is an IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent. For the MSc in Pathway successful completion of the IMI Diploma in Part 1 is required. Validation: Successful participants will be awarded the IMI Diploma in. This qualification will be accredited and validated by University College Cork - National University of Ireland, Cork and will be academically equivalent to a Postgraduate Certificate (Level 9) Minor Award on the National Framework of Qualifications. On successful completion of IMI Diploma in Part 2 participants will be awarded the MSc in. This is accredited by University College Cork at Level 9 (60 credits) on the National Framework of Qualifications. 7 Biographies Professor Tom Davenport Tom Davenport is a renowned thought-leader and is recognised as one of the top 25 consultants in the world. He is the highest ranking business academic and the third most influential business and technology analyst globally. He is also ranked as one of the 100 most influential people in the IT industry. Tom combines his interests in business, research, and academia as the President s Distinguished Professor in Management and Information Technology at Babson College and as a Visiting Professor at the Harvard School. He is also co-founder and research director of the International Institute for Analytics and a Senior Advisor to Deloitte Analytics. Tom is the author of hundreds of articles, columns and blogs and has written or co-authored fourteen books, including several firsts in the areas of big data and analytics, business process reengineering, knowledge management, and the business use of enterprise systems. He is quoted frequently in media such as The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. His concept of big data and analytics as a competitive differentiator, initially introduced in a Harvard Review article (2006), Competing on Analytics, has been recognised by HBR editors as one the most important management ideas of the past decade and remains one of HBR s ten must-read articles in that magazine s 90- year history. His book Competing on Analytics: The New Science of Winning is cited by CIO Magazine as one of the all-time top 15 most groundbreaking management books. Bill Inmon Bill is best known as the father of data warehousing and has been named by Computerworld as one of the ten IT people who mattered most in the last 40 years. Bill has become the most prolific and well-known author worldwide in the data warehousing and business intelligence arena, having 35 years of experience in database technology and data warehouse design. In addition to authoring more than 50 books and 650 articles he is known globally for his seminars on developing data warehouses and information architectures. Bill also has an extensive entrepreneurial background, having founded 4 companies throughout his career. Bill is renowned for developing the Corporate Information Factory and the Government Information Factory methodologies and blueprints. In more recent years Bill has developed Textual ETL technologies that allow an organisation to move various types of unstructured information into a data warehouse and consolidate it with structured data into a single shared data store. Also, Bill recently announced Inmon s DW2.0 the architecture of the next generation of data warehousing. His latest book on the subject is DW 2.0: Architecture for the Next Generation of Warehousing. Dr. Thomas Redman Tom is known as the data doc and he is renowned for working with people from all over the world in numerous industries to address the tough problems of data quality in long-term ways to make their companies stronger. As an advisor, Tom has helped dozens of companies understand their options for addressing data quality, define programmes that get to the roots of the issues and save themselves millions of dollars. As an innovator Tom was the first to understand the fundamental importance of data, extend principles of quality to data, understand fundamental properties of data in organisations, and give meaning to the phrase manage data assets. Today Tom s focus is on better organisations for data. Tom s 2008 book titled: Driven: Profiting from Your Most Important Asset was the first completely business oriented book on data. In 2011 Tom received the first IAIDQ Distinguished Member Award and the MIT Award for Outstanding Contributions to Information Quality. Tom also holds 2 patents. Dr. Ken Collier Ken is known as the agilist and is one of the first to start combining Agile methods with data warehousing, business intelligence, and analytics. He has successfully adapted Agile techniques to data warehousing and business intelligence to create the Agile Analytics style. He has trained many data warehousing and business intelligence teams in Agile Analytics, giving him the opportunity to exercise this approach with various technologies, team dynamics, and industry domains. Ken is the Agile Analytics Practice Lead for ThoughtWorks where he is focused on advanced analytics using cool new technologies. He is formerly the Insight and Social BI Practice Director for the Cutter Consortium as well as a Senior Consultant in the Agile Development practice. Ken has had the privilege of working as a software engineer for a large semiconductor company. He has spent several years as a tenured professor of computer science engineering. He has directed the data warehousing and business intelligence solutions group for a major consulting firm. Dr. Anne Marie Smith Anne Marie Smith is an Information Management professional and consultant with broad experience across industries. She is a certified data management and business intelligence professional (CDMP/CBIP) and is a frequent speaker and author on data management topics. Anne Marie is a primary author of several sections of the DAMA- Management Body of Knowledge (DAMA-DMBOK). She writes a regular column in The Administration Newsletter com. Anne Marie has consulted in areas such as: enterprise information management assessment and program development, data governance development, data warehousing, business requirements gathering and analysis, master data management, data quality management and information systems planning. She has taught numerous workshops and courses in her areas of expertise and has served as an assistant professor at several institutions, including La Salle University and Rowan University. Anne Marie is a leader in the international professional organization for data management (DAMA International). Anne Marie holds the degrees of Bachelor of Arts and Master s of Administration in Management Information Systems and Risk Management from La Salle University; she earned a Ph.D. in MIS at Northcentral University. Dr. Tadhg Nagle Joint Programme Director Tadhg is a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems (UCC). With a background in Financial Services Tadhg became a Analyst Lab Leader in the Digital Enterprise Research Institute, from which he holds a PhD. Focusing on emerging technologies, strategic innovation and disruptive technologies he has published a number of papers in leading international Information Systems conferences and journals. 8 Dr. David Sammon Joint Programme Director David is a senior lecturer in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems (UCC). David s current research interests focus on the areas of conceptual data modelling, master data/ information management, theory and theory-building, and redesigning organisational routines through mindfulness. David has published extensively in international journals and conferences. He is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Decision Systems and co-author of the book: Enterprise Resource Planning Era: Lessons Learned and Issues for the Future (2004). Dr. Paidi O Reilly Paidi is the Director of Innovation & Research with a UK headquartered software company. He oversees development and implementation of their innovation strategy. Paidi also delivers innovation and technology subjects to masters-level students at UCC. Paidi sits on the Innovation Management Standards Consultative Committee within the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI). Paidi has over fifteen years experience as a consultant and professional trainer. He has worked with many public and blue-chip organisations in the UK and Ireland. Paidi has a particular interest in the use of innovation models for policymaking and management strategising. He has published his work in leading academic and practitioner outlets. Jeremy Hayes Jeremy Hayes is a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Accounting, Finance and Information Systems in University College Cork. His research interests are in the area of Models for e, Cloud, Open Innovation, and for the Smart Grid. His research has been published in leading international journals and conferences, including Information Systems Research, the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, the European Journal of Operational Research, Journal of base Management, Journal of Information Technology and People, the European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS), and working conferences of the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP). Dr. Eleanor Doyle Eleanor Doyle is Senior Lecturer in Economics. She is Director of the practitioner-oriented, developmental, doctoral research programme, DBA ( Economics). She is interim Director of the Institute for Development and Competitiveness at the Department of Economics and her teaching and research relate to the integration of professional and organisational development and its impact on the environment for business and in turn on economic development and prosperity. She is an invited member of the international Microeconomics of Competitiveness network of the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness, Harvard School, led by Prof. Michael Porter. She leads the Competitiveness Survey Group at UCC providing Irish input to the Executive Opinion Survey for the annual Global Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum. Eleanor contributes regularly to debates in national and international media on such topics as: competitiveness, the housing and financial bubbles and the Banking Crisis. of GRC information systems by organisations to make sense of and understand environmental regulations globally. In 2009 he received a Government of Ireland Research Fellowship. In 2013 he became Principal Investigator of the Government of Ireland s Financial Services Governance Risk and Compliance Technology Centre (GRCTC). Under his coordination, and with funding of 5 million euro from the Irish Government, the GRCTC conducts research on the design, development and implementation of semantic technologies for governance, risk and compliance (GRC) in the financial industry globally. At a higher level, his research is informed in the main by institutional theory and the philosophy of technology and seeks to explain how social, institutional and organisational mechanisms bring about change in institutions and organisations. Tom has published extensively and he is currently ranked 33rd out of the top 100 AIS Senior Scholars and researchers globally. Dr. Edel Walsh Edel Walsh is a lecturer in the School of Economics in University College Cork. She is co-director of Practice Economics which is a distinctive, practice-oriented postgraduate programme, through which participants can develop an applied knowledge and comprehensive understanding of how business operates. Edel s teaching is mainly in the area of business economics and includes delivering modules on business strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship. She also lectures data analysis and research methods modules on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. In her own research Edel uses advanced econometric techniques to analyse health data in Ireland. Edel holds a PhD in Economics from UCC. Dr. Rosemary Murphy Rosemary commenced her lecturing career in 1998 in the Department of Economics, University College Cork with a teaching portfolio combining, Health and Quantitative Economics. It was from this teaching portfolio that her interest in the business of Health Economics grew, leaving her to commence her PhD (Health Economics) Degree in January Her PhD investigated the equivalence scales determining medical card eligibility in Ireland, the re-regulation of same and was completed in January Rosemary is an active member of the Health Economics Group in the School of Economics. This group emphasises the business element of health economics and through this group she has contributed to numerous conferences and papers in health and business economics. Rosemary is currently the director of the PhD (Health Economics) Degree with a portfolio compromising of completed and ongoing PhD research theses. The current theme of the PhD (Health Economics) Degree is the Economics of Subjective Well Being. Dr. Tom Butler Tom is a Senior Lecturer in Information Systems at University College Cork. A former IT professional in the ICT sector Tom has an established research track record on the use of Green ICT to make businesses environmentally sustainable, including the application IMI Diploma in

Participants who have completed the IMI Diploma in Part 1 have three options in their journey to achieving a Masters: Option 1: Complete Part 2 of (60 credits) and gain the specialised qualification of MSc in. Option 2: Complete a second IMI Diploma (choice excludes Part 2) and an additional Research Project to gain an MSc in Practice qualification. Option 3: Complete a second and third IMI Diploma (choice excludes Part 2) and RIA and gain an MBS in Practice qualification. It must be noted that IMI Diploma in Part 1 can be taken as the second or third IMI Diploma in the journey towards an MSc in Practice or MBS in Practice. The MoB philosophy Unlike traditional MBAs and Masters, the IMI MoB Framework is driven by an intensely practical, action learning philosophy. Throughout the programme, classroom learning is applied to reallife business challenges via exercises, group work, case studies and projects that centre on both your day-to-day work and the challenges currently facing your organisation.
