Starting at different times of the year, our courses are underpinned by expert classroom tuition held at weekends, at the University s state-of-the-art de Havilland Campus. All of which is backed up by extensive independent study opportunities through our distance learning platform: when it comes to studying back at home, you ll find our virtual learning environment, StudyNet, invaluable. There are three units: Personal Development as a Manager and Leader Performance Management Leadership Practice Where do I study? This five day course is intensively delivered over a two day weekend (Friday and Saturday) at the University s de Havilland Campus. You will also be required to spend additional time on independent study. This is dependent on the combination of units selected by each individual candidate. However, between 45 and 55 guided learning hours is expected. 6 Coaching Chartered Management Institute (CMI) Award in Coaching & Mentoring (Level 5) Yes, if you re a manager, team leader or aspiring manager looking for a fast-track coaching qualification to enhance your career prospects and working performance. During this two-day course you will learn the difference between coaching and mentoring and understand how coaching can be used to support and motivate individuals and teams to enhance performance using a number of models. You will also learn advanced questioning skills, how to give clean feedback and to recognise when coaching is a relevant tool. Where do I study? This qualification will provide you with a practical insight into the principles and applications of marketing. There are four modules: Marketing Essentials Assessing the Marketing Environment Marketing Information and Research Stakeholder Marketing Where and when do I study? For flexibility, the course is taught in a series of evening classes, so you will attend ten Wednesday workshops per unit at the University s de Havilland Campus. You will also be required to spend additional time on independent study. This is dependent on the combination of units selected by each individual candidate. However, between 45 and 55 guided learning hours is expected. You will explore the function and fundamentals of marketing in some depth including how to write and execute a marketing plan. You will learn the different ways of understanding and communicating with customers and gain an understanding of your organisation s marketing environment, its many constituent parts and how they work in unison. Finally you will learn to apply practical knowledge including the collection and analysis of data. You ll need a minimum of two A-levels or a foundation degree or hold a CIM introductory certificate. 12 Marketing Communication, Advertising and Marketing (CAM) Diploma in Digital Marketing Yes, if you are a current marketing professional or are looking to get into the industry and want to get up to date with the principles of digital marketing. The course is split into three units: Digital Marketing Essentials Digital Marketing Planning Marketing and Consumer Behaviour Where do I study? For flexibility, the course is taught at the weekends, so you will attend three Saturday or Sunday workshops per unit at the University s de Havilland Campus, plus an individual one-to-one tutorial per unit. You will also be required to spend additional time on independent study. This is dependent on the combination of units selected by each individual candidate. However, between 45 and 55 guided learning hours is expected. This dynamic, up-to-the-minute course will give you valuable knowledge of digital marketing, covering such areas as search engine optimisation, pay-per-click advertising, and viral marketing, social media and much more. On successful completion of the course, you ll get an industryrecognised qualification accredited by the Communication, Advertising and Marketing Foundation (part of the Chartered Institute of Marketing). You will need a business or marketing Bachelor s degree (or equivalent) with a third of the credits coming from marketing, or have a professional qualification in marketing (eg CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing, CIPR Advanced Certificate in Public Relations or similar). Alternatively, you should have experience of working at marketing manager level and, if required to do so, pass the entry test. Please note that if you have already completed the CIM Professional Diploma (see page 13 for details), then you only need to complete the Digital Marketing Essentials and Digital Marketing Planning modules to receive your diploma. 13 Marketing Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) Chartered Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Yes, if you already have a significant level of marketing knowledge and / or experience. This Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) course focuses on the strategic aspects of marketing management, while the accredited qualification is increasingly seen as a benchmark of competence at the highest level. There are four modules: Emerging Themes Analysis and Decision Marketing Leadership and Planning Managing Corporate Reputation Where and when do I study? For flexibility, the course is taught at the weekends, so you will attend three Saturday workshops per unit at the University s de Havilland Campus. You will also be required to spend additional time on independent study. This is dependent on the combination of units selected by each individual candidate. However, between 45 and 55 guided learning hours is expected. The aim of the course is to establish you as a professional practitioner capable of making a significant contribution to your organisation. Overall, this qualification will enable you to: make the transition into strategic management work more cross-functionally at a senior management level contribute to board decisions demonstrate a high level of leadership and influence You will need to have successfully completed the CIM Professional Diploma in Marketing (either the 2003 or 2009 syllabus) or the CIM Advanced Certificate in Marketing. Alternatively, you should have either a business or marketing Bachelor s or Master s degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of half the credits coming from marketing. Also, you will need experience of working at senior marketing management level and, if required to do so, to pass the entry test. 14 Marketing CIM Postgraduate Diploma Stage 2: Leading Marketing Chartered Marketer with fast-track to MSc Business and Management Studies Stage 2: Leading Marketing is an innovative approach for the new CIM Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. It enables experienced Marketing practitioners to obtain Chartered Marketer status and top up to a full Masters qualification from the University of Hertfordshire. This stage is designed to enable students to design, implement and evaluate a live strategic business project and to develop their personal and professional skills, knowledge and behaviours. Students will be expected to self-manage their learning and add value to their organisation and/or business sector. Where and when do I study? Most study will be independent with structured meetings with your tutor either in person at the Business School, de Havilland campus or via video conference. The key aims of Leading Marketing will: Identify an emerging marketing theme that has a significant impact on your organsiation and/or business sector and produce a strategic response, in the form of a business project, to the opportunities presented by and/or the threats posed by the emerging theme and its impact Implement and critically evaluate your strategic business project to assess areas of success and areas requiring further improvement Critically evaluate your role as a leader and marketer. You will assess your role as the project leader and measure your personal and professional progression throughout the project Produce a structured report that demonstrates the activities above You will need to have successfully completed CIM Postgraduate Professional Diploma or have a CIM qualification with significant experience. What assessment is required? Part 1 - Produce up to a 5000 word project proposal. (Introduction 200 words, Literature Review (i) 3000 words, Literature Review (ii) 1000 words) Part 2 - Project Implementation and assessment 8000 words to include project plan 3000 words, business project 2000 words, project evaluation 3000 words. To achieve the certificate level you must complete four mandatory units: Understanding laws and ethics of selling Preparing and delivering a sales presentation Handling objections Understanding influences on buyer behaviour The diploma comprises the four mandatory units above plus another four or five units selected from the list below to a credit value of 20 Understanding customer segmentation and profiling Understanding sales and marketing in organisations Using market information for sales Time and territory management for sales people Planning for professional development Prospecting for new business Sales pipeline management complete three workbooks per unit. To achieve the certificate level you must complete the Leading a Culture for Responsible Selling unit plus three optional modules from the following list Leadership and management in sales Planning and implementing sales and marketing strategy Salesforce organisation Sales forecasting and budgeting Developing strategic relationships with major customers Managing sales-related change Developing and using customer insight To achieve the Diploma you must complete all of the above units. Where do I study? Working via distance learning with two tutorials per unit at the University, you ll complete three workbooks per unit. In each workbook you ll complete two or three tutorassessed assignments, usually within twentyeight days. 18 Accounting Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Operational level and Management Are these courses for me? Yes, if you are aiming to qualify as a Chartered Management Accountant, are preparing for the CIMA exams and would like help via classroom and revision courses. This qualification consists of six papers, with three at each level: Operational level: Enterprise Operations Financial Operations Performance Operations Management level: Enterprise Management Financial Management Performance Management We advise you to concentrate on studying just two of the above papers per sitting, or you can also choose to study for just one at a time. To give you a balance of content, we recommend you don t select similar topics as a combination, for example Performance Operations and Performance Management. In addition to these taught courses, we also offer revision courses to help boost your success rate. Where and when do I study? The taught courses run over six consecutive Saturdays and, if you choose to study two papers per sitting, you will study one subject in the morning and another in the afternoon. The revision courses run over three consecutive Saturdays. You will also be required to spend additional time on independent study. This is dependent on the combination of units selected by each individual candidate. However, between 45 and 55 guided learning hours is expected. 19 Accounting Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Strategic Yes, if you are aiming to qualify as a Chartered Management Accountant, are preparing for the CIMA exams and would like help via classroom and revision courses. These courses are an ideal, flexible way to prepare for your CIMA qualification, as you learn from CIMA-dedicated lecturers in a stimulating environment. This qualification covers the following papers: Enterprise Strategy Performance Strategy Financial Strategy We also offer a revision course for each paper, for those who have already studied the papers but are preparing to sit the exams. Where and when do I study? If you are attempting this level for the first time, we offer a nine-week course that covers all three papers above. 20 Accounting Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) TOPCIMA with optional fast-track to MSc Business and Management Studies Yes, if you are aiming to qualify as a Chartered Management Accountant. TOPCIMA tests the ability of students to bring together a range of professional skills to produce a coherent report covering the issues facing a fictional organisation. We also offer a revision course for each paper, for those who have already studied the papers but are preparing to sit the exams. Where and when do I study? We offer a six-week course held on consecutive Saturdays for a full day from 09:00-17:00. These courses are an ideal, flexible way to prepare for your CIMA qualification, as you learn from CIMA-dedicated lecturers in a stimulating environment. You will need to have successfully completed both the CIMA Operational and Management level papers (see page 18 for details). You will identify a strategic theme within your organisation and produce a written project. You will work with an assigned tutor throughout to facilitate your independent study and reflection. 21 Public Relations Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) Foundation Award (Level 3) Yes, if you are considering a career in PR or already working in a wider role with some responsibility for dealing with public relations for your organisation. You will examine the key terms, techniques and theories of public relations and look at relationships between PR and other business functions such as marketing, advertising, promotions and publicity. You will gain a broad introduction to the specialist areas of PR, ethical issues, the CIPR code of practice and to in-house and consultancy working practices. Concepts such as corporate social responsibility (CSR), reputation management and working with publics will also be considered. Where and when do I study? This course is taught on the University s de Havilland Campus in three full-day Saturday workshops (between 09:00 17:00). Students will be required to sit an exam at the end of the course. This course will give you an overview of the field of PR and enable you to differentiate between the concepts and practices of PR and a number of other functions within the organisation. You will gain a working knowledge of key PR terms and the CIPR code of ethics and be able to demonstrate an understanding of when and how to write and place a news release. You will need to have five GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade C or above. The course is offered twice each year in February and September. How long is the course? Fifteen hours of lectures and workshops with approximately fifteen hours of background study and revision. Plus completion of a three hour exam. or CIMA@herts.ac.uk.
