1 GUIDED VISITS TO ITER S BIOCLIMATIC DWELLINGS DURING THE EUROPEAN SUSTEINABLE ENERGY WEEK 2012 (EUSEW) The inclusion of the Guided Visits to the 25 Bioclimatic Dwellings event in the EUSEW 2012, is an important recognition of the role of this dissemination equipment and of its promoters in the attainment of an energetically sustainable future for the island of Tenerife. The European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) was thrown launched by the European Commission in the year 2005, as key event for the promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency within the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign. Programmed activities regarding renewable energies and energy efficiency will take place all throughout Europe from June18 th to June22 th. This also includes the accomplishment of a series of conferences and different events in Brussels.

2 THE PROJECT The 25 Bioclimatic Dwellings for the island of Tenerife The bioclimatic housing development ITER is located within the boundaries of the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies, in the south of the island of Tenerife. Their most unusual feature is that they have been conceived as a laboratory for different types of bioclimatic techniques and for the integration of renewable energy sources applied to architecture. The homes, which are self sufficient in terms of energy consumption, use photovoltaic and thermal panels and are being monitored for the study of bioclimatic techniques and to determine which are the most efficient. Apart from the technical aspects, the project also aims to disseminate information about these techniques and the integration of renewable energy into architecture to raise awareness among specialists and the general public. The project 25 Bioclimatic Homes for the Island of Tenerife started with an International Tender promoted by the Tenerife Island Government (Cabildo Insular de Tenerife) and the Institute of Technology and Renewable Energies (ITER) with the backing of the International Union of Architects. The aim was to create a laboratory of homes developed in line with the criteria of bioclimatic architecture, adapted to the conditions of the surroundings and capable of being self sufficient in their energy needs. In practice, the results obtained in this laboratory will provide design models for hot climates, which will facilitate reproduction of the technology used and will

3 provide future initiatives of sustainable building with a tried and tested tool which is easy to apply and can be exported to other areas with a similar climate. Each of the homes selected for the Housing Development is different in design, materials, techniques to take advantage of the natural resources, architectural integration of thermal and photovoltaic solar power etc. This feature makes the Village of 25 Bioclimatic Homes in Tenerife a unique place in the world where the application of very different bioclimatic techniques can be experienced.

4 PROGRAMMED ACTIVITIES FOR THE EUROPEAN SUSTEINABLE ENERGY WEEK 2012 The Tenerife Energy Agency, together with the Institute of TechnologyandRenewableEnergiesofTenerife,consciousofthe importanceoftheexistenceofthisdisseminationequipmentfor bioclimatic skills and of integration of renewable energies in buildings,willorganizeduringjune18th,19th,20th,21st,and22nd within the European Sustainable Energy Week 2012 a series of activities that will try to bring this bioclimatic laboratory to the population, as it already did past two years with much success and taking also being part of the European Sustainable Energy Week.

5 Activities The activities programmed include oral presentations about the project (in Spanish) and guided visits to the bioclimatic complex (Spanish/English). All of these activities are free of charge, but previous registration is needed in order to participate in them. The registration can be done through or calling /35. The oral presentations will be given in ITER s Visitor Centre, which will also be the starting point for the guided visits. Furthermore, a 2.0 Contest through the CasasBioclimaticasIter Facebook page, whose terms and conditions are enclosed below, will be launched. The winner will be the person who more me gusta accumulates during that period. Award: One stay of two nights for two persons in one of the ITER s bioclimatic dwellings.
