17 Rose Leaders, I have now been at Rose over a year and it has been great fun! I have had the good fortune of getting to know front line staff, councils, aspiring leaders, fully vetted leaders, and Executive Staff. Through partnerships with many, and a great deal of support, I have conducted a thorough assessment of the curriculum. Because the Rose Faculty allowed me to sit in on them facilitating vast areas of content, I learned a ton from sitting in on the classes as well! As a result, I am excited to share with you some fun facts about what we will keep consistent in 2014 and what you can anticipate in the way of changes. Important program features that you shared with us in years past and are sure to keep: All Rose employees take courses at no cost to them. Courses that are best attended will have the most offerings throughout the year. Leadership and Organization Development courses offered to three audiences: All Staff, Managers, and Leaders. Distinguishing among the three groups helps create opportunities in alignment with your current and aspiring roles. Flexible scheduling, morning offerings to accommodate night staff and on demand options for weekend and all busy people. Changes for 2014: We have new faculty, new classes and new curriculum! Over a dozen new Rose Faculty check out the front cover : ) 4 new face to face classes* and 44 new on demand courses. Yes, 48 new classes! Curriculum freshened up and/or completely revamped by our Rose Leaders. *Four new face to face courses in the areas of Compassion Fatigue, an Executive Leadership Spotlight, Healthy Eating Habits, and Project Management. Board Certified Rose Leader (BCRL) program for aspiring and emerging leaders will be offered next in Past graduates, including those from each of the years have impressed upon me that they would like to stay involved in their leadership development after graduation. Offering the program in 2015 allows me and the BCRL Board an opportunity to plan and pilot several post graduation activities for past and future BCRL graduates. I am excited about the positive impact that the Rose University and Faculty have on our learning as people, teams, and an organization at large. We all come to Rose University to learn and it is my hope that we all come away with new knowledge. If you have input on our Rose University programs, please feel free to contact me directly at or via e mail at Rachel.Leone.Marx@HealthONEcares.com. See you in class! Your NDNQI RN Satisfaction Survey results told us, Rose nurses value collegial MD relationships, quality of care, nurse participation in hospital affairs, staffing and resource adequacy plus nurse manager ability, leadership and support. Using these standards, the 2014 curriculum is designed to provide the Rose Professional Nurse and Inter Professional partners with varied learning opportunities that augment nurse excellence through professional development. Nurse Leadership has committed to meeting the IOM recommendation of an 80% BSN prepared workforce by 2020, to proactively endorse advanced professional RN certification and membership in professional nursing organizations. 39 Dear Rose Medical Center Employees, The character of an insanely great organization is best seen in how it develops its employees and what opportunities are available to them. Rose University offers many opportunities for our employees for development and personal growth. The School of Workforce Development maintains a focus on continuous learning that is aimed at employees of all levels. Webster University offers masters level education to all who seek to earn a graduate degree in Business or Health Administration. This program provides employees with a supportive learning environment where classmates are your peers and co workers. The location of the classes is on the Rose Medical Center campus. Rose also offers a learning opportunity for those who are in entry level positions and looking to advance. The and ECHO programs are designed to reintroduce staff to the educational processes. Three classes have graduated from the School at Work Program, many receiving promotions due to their increased abilities. The ECHO program is the next step in the learning process and provides learners with the opportunity to prepare for more formal advanced education. Many Rose employees speak English as a second language. This can create a challenge in communications for those employees, their co workers and managers. Rose invests in its employees and their ability to communicate effectively through the English as a Second Language Program. This program recruits participants who can enhance their skill level in the supportive environment with others who are learning English. The ESL sessions focus specifically on language that makes the employees more effective in the healthcare environment. Combining all of these opportunities allows Rose and its staff to be insanely great. Take advantage of the opportunity to direct your development and to become a reliable resource for our facility. Clarence G. McDavid Vice President of Human Resources Rose Medical Center 37
