We invite you to join us for the annual School Psychology Awareness Week conference sponsored by the Utah Association of School Psychologists (UASP) on November 13, We are excited to have the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) President Todd A. Savage join us in Salt Lake City to present on Helping Transgender and Gender Diverse Students Succeed at School and at Home, as well as his 2015 theme for NASP, School Climate. We welcome school psychologists, counselors, educators, parents, and community organizations to attend in an effort to increase supports for students in Utah schools. 3 ABOUT THE PRESENTER, Todd A. Savage, NCSP and NASP President Todd A. Savage, NCSP earned his doctorate in school psychology from the University of Kentucky in Having worked as a consultant for several education-related agencies, he joined the school psychology faculty at New Mexico State University in Since 2008, Dr. Savage has been on the school psychology faculty at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, where he currently holds the rank of associate professor. He teaches courses on diversity and inclusion; consultation; assessment; public policy and advocacy; and school crisis prevention, preparedness, and intervention. His research interests include culturally-responsive practice; social justice in school psychology; issues of sexual orientation and gender identity as they pertain to the schooling process; and school crisis response. He has published multiple articles and chapters in a variety of sources, in addition to providing professional development focused primarily on lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender student matters as well as the PREPaRE school crisis prevention and intervention curriculum published by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). Dr. Savage s NASP service includes terms as New Mexico Delegate; Leadership Development Workgroup chair and co-chair; and Program Manager for the Professional Development Program Area. 9:30 11:00 am: School Climate, #ConnectTheDots School climate has been called the fourth leg of school success and school connectedness is an integral factor in a positive school climate. Positive school climates and feeling connected to adults and to peers in school have been shown to affect academic achievement positively and to lead to better outcomes for students behaviorally, socially, and emotionally, as well. Through this keynote, NASP president Todd A. Savage will discuss the elements that contribute to a positive school climate and what school psychologists do to support and to enhance positive school climates. He will as present a NASP update as a part of this presentation. 11:00 am 4:30 pm: Helping Transgender and Gender Diverse Students Succeed at School and at Home Transgender students face a myriad of challenges affecting their abilities to succeed at school and at home. The purpose of this session is to augment the participant s awareness of gender identity and gender diversity, in general; to assist the participant it constructing a knowledge base pertaining gender identity, gender diversity, and the schools; and to increase the participant s potential to work successfully with this population. Direct instruction, videos, and small and large group interactions will be employed to enhance participant learning. REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT INFORMATION: Please visit to register for the conference. There will be NO REFUNDS AFTER the end of Early Registration on October 23, CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT POLICY NCSP Continuing Professional Development (CPD) CPD credit will be available for School Psychologists. UASP is approved by the National Association of School Psychologists to offer continuing education. UASP maintains responsibility for the program. (Individuals requesting NCSP CPD credit who are dissatisfied with the conference may contact the registrar for resolution.) Continuing Education Credit This conference qualifies for continuing education hours which may be used toward satisfying the requirements of many national, state, and local licensing boards and professional organizations for School Psychologists, School Counselors, Special Educators, Educators, Social Workers and Psychologists. By submitting registration, participants acknowledge that CPD credit will not be issued unless they attend the conference in its entirety. Certificates will be distributed at the conclusion of the program to participants who have attended the full-day of training.
