Communiy service projecs are designed by local organizaions and he individuals hey serve and explore conceps such as communiy developmen, service learning, and voluneerism in an inernaional conex. 9 Saria Upadhyay Cosa Rica, Vienam A naive of upsae New York, Saria graduaed from Cornell wih a BS in naural and environmenal sysems and is currenly a graduae suden a he Universiy of California, San Francisco. She has coordinaed a eaching program in he Amazon in Ecuador, managed logisics and ours for a ravel company in Peru, and worked in Chicago a an urban susainabiliy-hemed hink ank. Saria has raveled exensively in Asia and is a PADI-cerified Advanced Open Waer Diver. Ryan Rockmore Spain, The Neherlands Ryan was an Experimener o Spain in 2005 and is reurning for he hird ime as a leader for The Experimen. Originally from Albany, New York, he holds a degree in Spanish educaion from New York Universiy. Afer college, Ryan was awarded a one-year Fulbrigh research gran o Sevilla, Spain, and hen compleed an MA in dance anhropology a he Universiy of Roehampon, London. He currenly eaches high school Spanish in Brooklyn and serves as he faculy co-advisor for he school s Gay-Sraigh Alliance. Corez Alexander Jordan Born and raised in Chicago, Corez graduaed from DePaul Universiy wih a major in inernaional sudies and a minor in Arabic sudies. He sudied inensive Arabic as a summer U.S. Sae Deparmen Criical Language Scholar in Morocco and spen an academic year a Koç Universiy in Isanbul. Corez has worked as a program assisan wih WorldChicago and as a peer leader for World Learning s Iraqi Youh Leadership Exchange and has served on he board of direcors of he Chicago nonprofi Dreams for Kids. Allie Barnes Japan, Thailand Allie is a veeran Experimen leader, wice co-leading he Japan: Language and Culural Tradiions program. A naive of Indiana, she graduaed from Earlham College wih a BA in ar and minors in Japanese sudies and heaer ars. She lived in Sika, Alaska, serving as an AmeriCorps voluneer a a high school. Since fall 2014, Allie has been working oward her MA in inernaional educaion a SIT Graduae Insiue in Vermon, where she has also served as a program assisan for The Experimen. Daniel Morales-Armsrong Morocco Daniel was born and raised in New York Ciy. He holds a BA in psychology and criminal jusice from he Universiy of Albany SUNY, a professional cerificae in English language eaching from SIT Graduae Insiue, and an MA in educaion from Harvard. He has worked as he lead adminisraor and advisor for college preparaory programs supporing high-achieving sudens of color in he Bronx and for he pas year has been living in Raba, Morocco, eaching high school and college sudens. Daniel was an Experimener o Cosa Rica in Emily Robbins Spain, Morocco, Jordan Emily lives in Chicago, where she is a wrier and ranslaor of Arabic, Spanish, and Poruguese. She holds a BA from Swarhmore College, a cerificae of educaion from he Universiy of Pennsylvania, and an MFA from Washingon Universiy in S. Louis. She augh wih Teach for America and served as a 2008 Fulbrigh fellow in Syria which inspired her firs novel, A Word for Love, forhcoming in Emily was an Experimener o France in 2001, and has led four Experimen programs in Morocco and Spain.

10 Healh, Safey, and Securiy The Experimen places he highes prioriy on healh, safey, and securiy. Each program follows a comprehensive srucure designed o maximize he well-being of all paricipans while hey engage in dynamic cross-culural experiences. We have implemened specific risk managemen sraegies ha include a 24-hour emergency on-call service and regular safey reviews. We hire and rain experienced adul group leaders and mainain longsanding parnerships wih in-counry offices o suppor each of our programs. Because socioeconomic, poliical, environmenal, and medical condiions vary widely across he more han 20 counries in which The Experimen operaes, healh, safey, and securiy measures are specifically ailored o each locaion and o curren circumsances. Suppor in he areas of healh, safey, and securiy includes: Pre-deparure preparaion. The Experimen helps paricipans prepare for heir program hroughou he pre-deparure process by providing sample iineraries, a suden handbook, packing liss, ravel logisics, and healh guidelines ha include recommendaions relaed o immunizaions and medicaions. Each Experimen group is suppored by an exensive professional nework of in-counry resources such as parner offices, inernaional educaors, homesay coordinaors, in-counry co-leaders, and program guides. 11 The Homesay Experience The homesay has been he cornersone of Experimen programs for more han 80 years. Living wih a hos family faciliaes culural immersion in a deeply meaningful way and provides a unique vanage poin from which o beer undersand and experience he hos counry. I is hrough he homesay ha Experimeners ruly go from being a visior of he hos counry o a fully immersed paricipan. Homesay Placemens Our in-counry parners work year round o mach paricipans wih he bes possible families. Saff faciliae an exensive recruimen and veing process ha includes home visis and, where permissible, background checks. Hos families aend orienaion and pre-arrival sessions prior o meeing heir homesay suden. The Experimen also considers, as much as possible, he ineress of boh he suden and he local hos families when idenifying homesay placemens. Experimeners are placed wih families in he same region or own, which allows for group ge-ogehers, meeings, and culural aciviies, and for paricipans o easily reach heir group leaders. The homesay experience is beween one and hree weeks, depending on he program. Oher Accommodaions When no living wih a homesay family, paricipans say in appropriae accommodaions wih heir group and group leaders. These accommodaions may include gues houses, educaional insiuions, hosels, small hoels, or camps. See individual program pages in his caalog or on he websie for program-specific deails. Begin your Experimen in Argenina s capial, where you and your group will explore he ciy s ar galleries, heaers, and boulevards and sar pracicing your Spanish. Sail by caamaran o he ciy s surrounding islands o learn abou he region s ecology and biosysems. From Buenos Aires, ravel o colonial Sala La Linda, capial of he Sala province, on Argenina s norhern fronier, where you will spend wo weeks sharing day-o-day life wih an Argenine hos family. During his period, work on a communiy service projec, such as voluneering a a cener for children wih developmenal disabiliies or helping o renovae an orphanage or kindergaren. Paricipae in Spanish language classes wih oher members of your group and learn abou local gaucho culure. Go whie-waer rafing or hike o a radiional ranch, where you will learn how o rope cale.
