1 Georgia Sae Universiy CIS 8000 IT Projec Course Descripion This course examines he defining characerisics of IT projecs, especially involving he developmen of sofware inensive sysems, and inroduces he suden o a variey of projec managemen echniques ha can be applied in an IT projec conex. This course provides an inroducion o he disciplined approaches o IT projec managemen. While IT projecs are similar in some ways o oher ypes of projecs, hey pose unique challenges for he managers and organizaions ha underake hem. IT projec managemen is paricularly challenging because of several facors including: (1) he rapid pace of echnological changes occurring in he IT field, (2) he invisible naure of sofware, (3) he ever -presen pressure o add new feaures and funcionaliy o sysems, and (4) he difficuly of managing he organizaional changes ha accompany mos IT implemenaions. In spie of he advanced echnology ha surrounds compuer-based informaion sysems, IT projec managemen in mos organizaions is no very disciplined. This course will give sudens an undersanding of he mos common processes, ools, echniques, and heories ha are necessary o manage IT projecs. Managing IT projecs ha follow boh plan-driven radiional developmen mehods as well as agile mehods will be covered.
