DEAR PROSPECTIVE RESIDENTS I would like to start by commending you on your interest in the Florida A&M University Residency in collaboration with Bristol-Myers Squibb. Although a relatively young program, this residency already has an impressive track record and network of successful alumni that continues to grow. The Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy works cooperatively with Bristol-Myers Squibb to offer this unique residency program, which creates roles for the resident as both faculty at the university and staff at the company. The goal of the program is to provide the resident with a rich experience in industry and to emphasize the importance of teaching and research. This comports with the mission of the College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to prepare students for life-long learning and careers in an evolving profession of pharmacy. This must be a very exciting time for you as the culmination of your didactic training approaches and post-doctoral opportunities begin to present themselves. I want to be the first to say congratulations, wish you luck during the recruitment process, and advise you to consider this unique experience within the pharmaceutical industry. Michael D. Thompson, Pharm.D. Dean, College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Florida A&M University FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY The Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (CoPPS) program offers Pharm.D., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees to its students. With its main campus in Tallahassee, Florida, it is the only pharmacy program in the United States that has a fully accredited Institute of Public Health both on-site and managed by the College of Pharmacy. The College has additional instructional sites in Jacksonville, Davie, Tampa and Crestview, which support the infrastructure for the College s statewide commitment to pharmacy education and public service. The evolution of the College has witnessed the initiation of pharmacy education with just one student in the beginning to now being one of the largest colleges of pharmacy in the country. Currently, the College has more than 1,000 students and faculty. COPPS has a rich history of producing high-caliber graduates capable of providing exceptional pharmaceutical care. Our unique program focuses on academic excellence, research superiority, and community service; this allows us to prepare students for leading roles in the practice of pharmacy, research and public health. The Florida A&M University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences reinforces its primary mission through an active role and responsibility in the delivery, outcome, and study of pharmaceutical care services it shares with other healthcare providers. The College is committed to the advancement of pharmaceutical knowledge through teaching, research, and service in a supportive and caring environment that enhances the attainment of educational excellence and the highest standards in professional and ethical practice. 3
