The Certificate in Municipal Management and Leadership (CMML) develops municipal leaders by increasing their capacity to lead people, teams, departments and organizations. As a participant of this program, you will gain a deep understanding of yourself as a leader. You will learn to shift your focus from day-to-day tasks to strategically achieving the organization s business goals while managing change and stakeholder expectations through effective leadership. Throughout the program s duration, you will form longlasting networks with like-minded managers from across the province, which will prove themselves valuable as your learning continues in your future day-to-day. Module 2: Leading Self & Others Understanding who we are and how we behave is critical in becoming an effective leader. It opens us to growth opportunities building on our strengths and also helps to pinpoint challenges and blind spots where we can mitigate weaknesses. Module 3: Change Management This module offers the theories of change with practical application to championing and creating change. As a participant, you will be provided ideas, tools and resources to assist you through change, with an emphasis on practical application. This module will first equip you with change management tools and theory, and then challenge you to put your new change application to the test using a Change Management simulation tool. Module 4 Part 1: Information & Technology Management Ensuring that the expertise held by municipal managers is fully utilized by all parts of the organization and transferred to the next generation of senior leaders is critical to the long term sustainability of any municipal corporation. Module 4 Part 2: Information and Technology Management As municipalities fully integrate information technology into all aspects of the organization, all managers are involved with information technology management. Leaders need to have strong capabilities in IT planning, implementation and execution. Module 4 Part 3: Guiding Innovation In order to respond to changing conditions and improve the quality of services delivered to citizens, municipal leaders engage in innovation initiatives. As we learn more about innovation we recognize that there are a number of approaches and options that can be used to address different types of innovation challenges and opportunities. Module 5: Finance for Municipal Managers Municipal managers, regardless of their financial backgrounds, are required to understand the language of finance to make effective decisions. Understanding key financial data is critical to making informed fiscal decisions. Module 6: Committing to Improving Your Leadership Abilities Leadership development is an ongoing personal and situational challenge, requiring on-going attention and commitment.

How does the program work? The program consists of six modules and runs in a cohort format, requiring program completion as part of an intact group. In the event full program completion is not possible, please contact our office at your earliest convenience. Program Fee: $6,100 CAD (plus GST) Fees include all program materials, breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Logistics: An electronic confirmation will be sent to you in advance of the program start date. Pre-course material will be sent via e-mail (where applicable) prior to each session. Cancellation policy Notification of cancellation from the program must be received via email 21 calendar days prior to commencement.
