LOCATION The World Famous Daintree Rainforest area is a premier tourist destination, where the rainforest meets the Great Barrier Reef, and attracts visitors from all over the world. The Cape Trib Exotic Fruit Farm is located on Nicole Drive at Cape Tribulation which is approximately located 2 ½ to 3 hour s drive north of Cairns and the Cairns International Airport. The Great Barrier Reef is located approximately 20 minutes offshore by boat from Cape Tribulation Beach. The Wet Tropics World Heritage Area includes the Daintree Rainforest which is considered to be one of the oldest rainforests in the world. Cape Tribulation is located approximately 90 minutes north of the village of Port Douglas. The relatively close proximity provides an ideal day visitor and / or self-drive destination. ACCOMMODATION There is an owner s residence, a granny flat, a gazebo for tasting presentations and two cottages purpose built for guest accommodation. They are designed and positioned in such a way to offer complete privacy to both the guests and the operators. Each cottage can accommodate up to 4 people. There is also a packing shed and machinery shed located within the orchard. The buildings have been maintained to a high standard with regular termite inspections - full records are available. The owner s residence is modern, spacious and open plan in design with high cathedral ceilings, floor to ceiling windows and features a large stone fireplace. It consists of one bedroom, one bathroom and large undercover verandah areas. The teenager s retreat, or granny flat, has one bedroom, one bathroom and a large undercover verandah.

TEENAGER S RETREAT. This is an immaculately presented cabin with ensuite and verandah. Close to the Manager s home. It s great for the kids, grandparents or those family visits.

SEPARATE B&B CABINS. These fabulous free-standing two bedroom cabins have been designed to enhance the true experience of living in the rainforest atmosphere. Each is positioned to enjoy a private outlook within the forest environment - both have rainforest views from the balconies and windows. Each cabin is spacious and accommodates twin or double bed configurations, lounge furniture and coffee tables. Each verandah overlooks a seasonal creek and the unique & ancient tropical rainforest which is protected under World Heritage Listing.

FRUIT TASTING HUT This area is designed and built beautifully using local rainforest timbers. The area comfortably accommodates 24 people for a fruit tasting experience & tour which operates daily and is, for many, a highlight of their trip to Cape Tribulation. THE CLIMATE Cape Tribulation has a tropical climate and the onshore coastal sea breezes mean that the local climate is quite mild with temperatures rarely exceeding 34 deg C during summer or dropping below 15 deg C in winter. The wet season usually occurs between February and April. This climate enables a casual lifestyle based on outdoor living in shorts and t-shirts. The buildings have been designed to take the local climate into account, with louvered windows and wide verandahs for outdoor living. The guest cottages are located adjacent to a creek on the property overlooking the rainforest, which provides some natural air conditioning. THE TOURISM SIDE OF THE BUSINESS The business operates with a Food Business License from the Cairns Regional Council, and is registered with them as Bed and Breakfast Accommodation. The business can be managed and operated by just one couple with casual staff plus some wwoofers (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) assisting during busy periods. As a host property, members of WWOOF can stay on site & work. In exchange their time & work they are provided food and accommodation during their stay. The farm offers visitors a unique experience combining tropical fruit, permaculture orchard, world heritage rainforest, and tropical lifestyle in one of the most scenic destinations in Australia.

The farm is recognised as a pioneer and leader in the agri-food tourism industry in the region, offering an outstanding tourism experience, now in its 18 th year of operation. The farm has also established a reputation as being one of the best B&Bs in Far North Qld, and has a strong word of mouth clientele, rated as No. 1 on Trip Advisor for Cape Tribulation accommodation, and receiving Certificate of Excellence Awards from Trip Advisor for 2011, 2012, 2013. The property is on two titles, and has the potential for further development of another residence and two guest cottages, subject to council approval. The total land area is 8.026 hectares. THE ORCHARD SIDE OF THE BUSINESS The orchard comprises approximately 400 mature mangosteen trees with the fruit shipped to the Sydney market; and 600 mixed exotic tropical fruit trees of more than 100 different species, collected from tropical rainforests around the world, which enable an exotic fruit tasting and farm tour to be offered to visitors. The farm orchard has Freshcare Accreditation (www.freshcare.com.au) enabling fruit to be sold in supermarkets in Australia. The soil is tested and analysed annually with a special fertiliser blend customised to meet the specific nutrient needs of the soil. The soil fertility shows continuous improvement and records are available. The farm is managed using organic principles, in line with the requirements for organic certification with Australian Organics (BFA). It has previously been certified organic, but the certification has now lapsed. There is also a fruit tree nursery which sells trees online and by appointment, and a dried Soursop fruit leaves online mail order business. The knowledge required to operate the business is documented in detailed procedure manuals which have been used successfully by relief managers, when the owners were absent for 6 months. POWER AND WATER The farm runs on solar power, with a back-up generator, and the property has two bores. There is currently no reticulated power in the region. The farm has 2.5 kva in solar panels, 1200 AH battery, 1200 VA inverter, a 6.5KVA petrol generator and a 6.5 KVA back up diesel generator. The bore pump is an electrical submersible pump.
