Department Administration Craig J. Sherven, Chief of Police Chief Sherven joined the Department in January of 2011. He has worked in almost every facet of Law Enforcement in his 22 year career, holding the positions of Jail Deputy, Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Sergeant, and Lieutenant prior to coming to McFarland. Chief Sherven s educational background includes: Master of Business Administration /Public Administration, 2010; Bachelor of Arts, Criminal Justice Management, 2004; Graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, 2001; Associate Degree in Police Science, 1992. In addition to serving at the McFarland PD, Chief Sherven enjoys teaching part-time for Concordia University Madison and Fox Valley Technical College in their Criminal Justice programs. Brian Redman, Lieutenant of Police Lieutenant Redman joined the Department in 2006. Lt. Redman serves as the Department s second-in command, and as the Chief s second in command. Lt. Redman performs a wide variety of duties, essentially functioning in the role of the day to day operations manager. Lt. Redman recently completed a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice Management, and is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command.

Supervisory Personnel Joseph Hornbeck, Sergeant of Police Sergeant Hornbeck joined the Department in 2008, and serves as the Department s third in command and senior Sergeant. Sergeant Hornbeck has worked in many facets of law enforcement throughout his career, and recently completed a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice Management, and is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. Joseph Maurer, Sergeant of Police Sergeant Maurer joined the Department in 2002, and serves as the Department s fourth in command. Sergeant Maurer has also worked in many facets of law enforcement throughout his career, holds an Associate Degree in Police Science, and is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. Sgt. Maurer is the lead Firearms Instructor for the training consortium that the Department belongs to. Melissa Lavin, Administrative Assistant / Office Manager Melissa has been with the Department since 1989, and amongst many other duties, supervises and manages the front office and office staff. Melissa also serves as the Administrative Assistant to the Chief of Police.

Investigations Michael Klementz, Detective Detective Klementz has been with the Department for many years, and has served in a wide variety of positions. Mike holds a Bachelor Degree, and is also a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command. While he is currently the only staff member assigned to Investigations, the Department will be adding a second investigative position in mid-2015.

School Resource Officer John Miller, School Resource Officer Officer Miller has been with the Department for many years, and has served in a wide variety of positions. He is currently assigned as the School Resource Officer, and has been in that position for several years. John is also a firearms instructor and assists with the Explorer Post.

Patrol Officers Michael Showers, Police Officer Officer Showers is the most senior officer in the department, and has served in a wide variety of positions. He is currently assigned as a Patrol Officer working the 2p- 10p shift. Jeremy Michel, Police Officer Officer Michel has been with the Department for many years, and in addition to patrol is also a Field Training Officer. He is currently assigned as a Patrol Officer working the 6a-2p shift. Jeremy recently completed a Bachelor Degree and is currently pursuing a Master Degree. Jacqueline Statz, Community Police Officer Officer Statz is currently assigned as the Department s Community Police Officer, and works the 6a-2p shift. While she functions as a regular Patrol Officer, she has a passion for community programs as well. She manages a variety of such programs, including Shop with a Cop, Bike Rodeo, National Night Out and Are You Ok?. She is also a past Explorer Post advisor.

Joshua Barnier, Police Officer Officer Barnier is currently assigned to the 10p-6a shift. In addition to working Patrol, he is also an active trainer in the Department s training consortium and is a Field Training Officer. Officer Barnier is certified as an Evidence Technician. Nate Jacobsen, Police Officer Officer Jacobsen is currently assigned to the 10p-6a shift. In addition to working Patrol, he is also an active trainer in the Department s training consortium and is a Field Training Officer. Jason Onken, Police Officer Officer Onken is currently assigned to the 10p-6a shift. In addition to working Patrol, he is in charge of the Department s Police Explorer Post.

Ryan Copeland, K9 Officer Officer Copeland is currently assigned to the 7p-3a shift, and is the Department s K9 Handler. He and K9 Boris spend many hours together with off-duty training and development. K9 Boris lives with Officer Copeland, and comes and goes to and from work with him daily. Jeremy Job, Police Officer Officer Job joined the department in the spring of 2014, and is currently assigned to the 2p-10p shift as a Patrol Officer. Officer Job comes to us from the Evansville Police Department. Robert Wolf, Police Officer Officer Wolf joined the department in the spring of 2014 as well, and is currently assigned to the 2p 10p shift as a Patrol Officer. Officer Wolf comes to us from the Town of Milton Police Department.

Part-Time Patrol Officers Aaron Chapin, Police Officer Officer Chapin is a full-time Lieutenant with the University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department, and fills in at McFarland PD on an as-needed basis. Aaron Tomlinson, Police Officer Officer Tomlinson has worked for both the Monona and Fitchburg Police Departments, and is now in the education field. Officer Tomlinson fills in at McFarland PD on an asneeded basis. Jennifer Schaaf and Kevin Schneider, Police Officers Officer Schaaf works full-time for the Mt. Horeb Police Department, and Officer Schneider works full-time for the Monona Police Department. Both Officers fill in at McFarland PD on an as-needed basis.

Office Staff Bonnie Evans, Police Clerk Clerk Evans works full-time performing administrative duties in the front office. Sharon Ennis, Part-Time Police Clerk Clerk Ennis works Part-time performing administrative duties in the front office.
