profile Wiegerinck works on projects in the field of health care, residential care, education and high-quality research. These are projects with a sensitive context in terms of stakeholders, schedule and technology. We are driven by a curiosity about new possibilities. We seek out restrained architecture and collaborations based on an integration of disciplines. Our way of working is based on knowledge and asking questions and as such we create strong buildings. approach We create buildings that only tell you something when you ask them. We create structure to foster a freedom for living. We seek to create a modest architecture where spatial relationships and a feel for material, light and colour create a sense of tranquillity. method Knowledge is what drives our agency. The challenges we face in our projects demand experience and expertise. We try to fully understand the desires of the user and the client. But we also ask about the future. A building serves humankind. strength A building has an ongoing impact on its surroundings. As such, care should be taken. That s why we look at the options for future use, both expected and unexpected. A building that can be adapted has the strength required for a long life. collaboration Every project relies on the success of the collaboration. Between client, the users, the consultants, the builders and the investors. This creates a new dynamic each and every time. We feel responsible for integrating everyone s input.

Burgers Zoo Kids Jungle Arnhem Organic playground A new indoor playground has been designed at Burgers Zoo as an extension of the current park restaurant. The Kids Jungle theme playground is an added bonus for the park and ensures that Burgers Zoo is even less dependent on weather conditions than before. The playground is the most recent extension of the master plan for the zoo that Wiegerinck has co-drafted. There are two volumes in the building. On the one hand, the organically structured hall in which the playground is constructed and, on the other hand, a glass panel in between that acts as a connective element with the current park restaurant. The organic form of the building means that it fits seamlessly into the natural setting, while retaining its own identity in the park. The playground inside is set up like a Latin American jungle village including stilt houses connected by adventurous rope bridges, climbing nets and slides. The way in which the jungle village space has been structured ensures that there is a natural divide between the younger and older children. programme > Indoor playground client > BAM Utiliteitsbouw user > Burgers Zoo, Arnhem project team > Hans Beekhoven, Koen Arts, Taecke Halma, Joost de Jong consultants > ABT contractors > BAM Utiliteitsbouw, Maessen & Hendriks photographer > Norbert van Onna design start > 2011 completion > 2012 gross surface > 700 m² sustainability > No label organisation > Design&Build 3558

Van der Valk Hotel Nijmegen-Lent Striking and transparent The hotel is situated at a striking location in Lent, at the fork heading towards Waalburg and the new bridge to Nijmegen. The new building has two main volumes. A plinth building with a car park, entrance, foyer, restaurant and meeting room center, and a tower with rooms and a wellness center. The plinth structure follows the contour of the plot and points towards the new station plaza, which is yet to be built. This part of the building utilises strong building materials. The roof of this volume acts as a raised ground level. The park-like layout provides a place to relax within the hectic city. Like a sleek, polished diamond, the tower forms an interesting contrast with the structure below. The recessed reveals will be finished in different colours alternating on the top and bottom floors. A variation in openness will be created, which will change depending on your vantage point. programme > Restaurant, bar, hotel and conference center client > West End Vastgoed BV user > West End Vastgoed BV project team > Koen Arts, René Geerling, Joost de Jong, Tim Loeters, Tom Vlemingh consultans > ABT, Peutz, Linthorst Installatietechniek visualisation > Wiegerinck design start > 2011 completion > 2016 gross surface > 10.000 m² sustainability > No label organisation > Total Engineering Altogether, an ensemble will be created that suits the surroundings, creates space and plays with transparency. 3576
Indoor diving center Seafari Elst Indoor underwater world Seafari is the first indoor diving and snorkelling center in the Netherlands, where you can go diving and snorkelling in comfortable conditions all year long. Seafari has a circular diving pool 30 m in diameter and 12 m deep. Different routes lead divers past rock formations and other special objects. The pool is a freshwater biotope with a whole range of plants and a modest number of animals. Besides the diving pool, there are food and drink facilities, instruction rooms and a diving shop. The design provides extensive opportunities for the use of alternative and renewable energy, sustainable materials and the (re-)use of rainwater. The ambition is to have a building that generates, recycles and stores energy. programme > Indoor diving and snorkelling center client > Seafari Indoor Duik- en Snorkelcentrum user > Seafari Indoor Duik- en Snorkelcentrum project team > Hans Beekhoven, Koen Arts, Sandra Dijkstra, Sven Katzke, Martijn van Bentum consultants > ABT design start > 2009 completion > ntb gross surface > 1965 m² sustainability > No label organisation > Design&Build 2010-033
INNAAR EPA AWARD Madrid Spaarne Hospital multi-storey car park Hoofddorp EPA Award as valuable recognition The design of the multi-storey car park is what differentiates it from others. The utilitarian parking spaces are concealed by a black aluminium skin in which various patterns have been perforated; when night falls, the image of human DNA emerges from these patterns. The facade is slightly transparent so that you can look outside from inside the building and so cars are still noticeable on the outside. The car park has been designed to suit the specific needs of hospital visitors. Apart from having wide and disabled parking spaces, wheelchairs are available and there are payment terminals at wheelchair height. The entrance and exit to the car park are separate and there is a one-way traffic system in use. The multi-storey car park was awarded the European Parking Association Award. The key criteria for this award were practicality, functionalism, construction, design and maintenance. The jury report states: The Spaarne multistorey car park is the result of an exceptional collaboration between Q-Park and Spaarne Hospital. The multi-storey car park provides comfort suited to the specific needs of hospital visitors. ( ) This car park also stands out because of its unique artistic design.
