3 photo: VPRO Villa VPRO Sumatralaan GP Hilversum The VPRO is a public broadcasting corporation and operates in various media, producing radio and television programmes, filling digital theme channels, operating an innovative website, publishing a programme guide and organising cultural activities The VPRO has a rather special position within the broadcasting system: Enthusiasm, curiosity and quality has more value than ratings The VPRO takes its public task seriously but with slight stubbornness, purposefully choosing those programmes and topics that the other broadcasting companies pass over It aims to surprise, inspire awe, enrage and inform, as well as touch people, make them think, laugh and put things into perspective It provides the opportunity to explore, but also to see the world around them, the VPRO is in continuous dialogue with its articulate and critical target group This pioneering and spirit manifests itself in more than just the programming; the Villa VPRO is a physical embodiment of all the above elements photo: Bjorn Utpott m² MVRDV ARUP Pieters Bouwtechniek VPRO MI_MOA 3

4 photo: Duccio Malagamba photo: Duccio Malagamba Dutch Media Authority Hoge Naarderweg 78 NL-1200 BK Hilversum The Dutch Media Authority, called "Commissariaat voor de Media", upholds the rules which are formulated in the Dutch Media Act as well as in the regulations based on this act This is done by the providing of information beforehand and by subsequent supervision Fairness and consistency are the Commissariaat s basic principles in enforcing the Media Act The activities of the Commissariaat focus on both public service and commercial broadcasters and on cable operators The building for this institution stands on a slope in-between trees, at the border of the Media-park The existing trees have been maintained, and some of them grow through the overhanging construction at the entrance The interior circulation is organised at the façade, where the corridors are situated One side has stairways which bridge the gentle slope, on the other side the difference in height has been crossed by a talud The building has several patio s They provide ample daylight and places for lunch-breaks photo: Duccio Malagamba Project is not public! m² Koen van Velsen Bouwbedrijf Van den Hengel Commissariaat voor de Media MI_MOA 4

5 photo: Norbert van Onna photo: Norbert van Onna Hilversum City Hall Dudokpark JE Hilversum Dudok became City for the town of Hilversum in 1928 and designed and built about 75 houses, public buildings and entire neighbourhoods there, best known for the brick Hilversum City Hall (Raadhuis), completed in 1931 Not only did he design the building, but also the interior including the carpets, furniture and even the mayor's meeting hammer Dudok's early style grew out of the Amsterdam School but the dramatic massing, asymmetry, the overhanging eaves and other elements of his landmark City Hall were clearly influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright and the Chicago Prairie School Dudok continued to produce progressive, Dutch modernist structures in Hilversum for decades, through the 1960s, and had international influence He received the RIBA Gold Medal in 1935 and the AIA Gold Medal in 1955 He also designed buildings in Paris, the Collège néerlandais in the Cité Universitaire, a cultural centre in Baghdad and a cinema in Calcutta photo: Norbert van Onna 1931 Willem Marinus Dudok Norbert_van_Onna Tours are being organised every Sunday at 14:00hr Including tower-ascent Entree: east side, Dudokcentrum 5
