6 2. US Airlines will continue to lose share of total passenger miles traveled. Decade ending 2003, air travel down 4.7%. Business travel: electronic face to face. Leisure travel: I ll fly if I have to. Airport hassels, airline service low. Americans will fly less and drive more.

Getaway with 8 10 extended family & friends. Fear of flying, avoiding hassels, threats. More and more families will drive 200 miles and pay $200 for a suite at a regional resort with waterpark, family entertainment center.

9 4. Business travel will become more an elective and less a requirement. In decade ending 2003, business & convention travel fell 15%. Travel no longer required for business. During same period, leisure travel rose 16%. Leisure travelers and families remain the backbone of hotel & travel industry.

10 5. Americans will become more time impoverished. More people work from home, telecommute. However, our workday is now 1 hour longer. Cells phones have reduced weekends, taken away Saturdays and nights out. Workweek now averages over 48 hours. 76% of Americans now seek relief 2X adults look forward to spa vacation.

11 6. Mixing business & leisure 24/7 will lead to greater stress. People working at home and in virtual offices will experience more problems with priorities. Opportunity for spas, resorts to help people reduce stress.

12 7. Never disconnecting will cause greater stress. Always in touch gives sense of control. But takes toll on physical and mental health. Greater stress causes relationships to suffer and productivity to decline. When is it time to rest, relax and re create? Resorts can be part of the solution.

Provide settings for business, learning, participation, play and entertainment. Smart resorts will move from providing space to providing an experience.
