Instructions for 1 Introduction These instructions are intended only for the native Microsoft tool for wired networks (supplicant). You have to disable any third party supplicant. Using native Microsoft supplicant is not mandatory but it is the only supported one. The steps required to connect to the wired network are: download of the SSL personal certificate certificate installation wired network configuration proxy setup The certificate is a password protected file; you can download it from our web page https://www.asi.polimi.it/rete/wifi/richiesta_certificato.html using any Internet connected device or directly through our guest network. If you have not already configured your laptop you will be automatically redirected to the guest network. 2 Configuration of guest wired network In this section you can find the instructions to connect to our guest wired network from which you can download your personal certificate. In Control Panel >> Administrative tools select Services and verify that DHCP client service is started: If you have Service Pack 3 verify that Wired Autoconfiguration Service is started; If you have Service Pack 2 verify that "Zero Configuration wireless networks" is started: You can close the Services window. Highlight Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on Properties; set up DHCP like this: Click OK. 3 Certificate download Launch your web browser, setup proxy as explained in Appendix, and open https://www.asi.polimi.it/rete/wifi/richiesta_certificato.html. Choose a password to protect the certificate; you will be required to type that password later during installation of the certificate: Click next: Click on Scarica il certificato and save it on your preferred location. 4 Installazione del certificato Double click on the saved file and follow the wizard: Choose default values: Pagina 5 di 10 Wired configuration guide v1.1

5 Configure wired network In Control Panel >> Network connections you should find a Local Area Connection >> right click >> Properties >> Authentication Folder >> Check Enable IEEE 802.1x and choose Properties: Check Area Sistemi Informatici as in figure and click OK for three times: Pagina 8 di 10 Wired configuration guide v1.1
Unplug the network cable and plug it again: a pop-up should appear asking you to select a certificate.
