1 XWR-1750 Basic Configuration How To DOCUMENT INTRODUCTION This document will guide you through the initial setup of the XWR-1750 for basic functionality. What should I do? We recommend, you change your wireless network names and set a password on them to prevent any unwanted use. If you wish, you may set up a guest network to allow guests internet access without allowing them full access to your private network. 1. Connect the three dual-band dipole antennas, connect all Ethernet cables and apply power. 2. After you have connected the XWR-1750 and plugged an Ethernet cable to the router and your computer, you should now be able to access the configuration web page using a web browser, such as Mozilla FireFox, Google Chrome, or Internet Explorer. 3. Open your browser, type in the IP Address of into the address bar and hit Enter. 1-Entering in the IP address

2 4. A small pop-up window will appear asking for a User Name and Password. Enter in admin for the User Name and admin for the password. Click OK. 2-Logging into the XWR You will now be at the Quick Setup Screen for the XWR To the left, you have the Navigation tree in grey. In the center, you ll see the fields that you can configure and to the right is a help section. If you have a question about what a particular field is for, just click the small question mark and a brief explanation will pop up in the help section. 3-Quick Setup Screen

3 6. In the center field, from top to bottom, you should see the following sections: Internet / WAN Local Network / LAN Wireless Settings 2.4GHz Frequency Wireless Settings 5GHz Frequency 7. For the most part, we can skip the Internet / WAN and Local Network / LAN sections, since the default settings will work in most installations. 8. Under the Wireless Settings 2.4GHz Frequency section, we have the following fields: Operating Mode Network Name (SSID) Security Mode Channel 9. For Operating Mode, leave it as Access Point GHz and 5GHz fields 10. Network Name (SSID) is the name that will be broadcasted to let you know which wireless network you want to connect to. Change this from the default LuxulXen17502G to your desired network name. NOTE: We do not recommend using spaces or special characters in your SSID. The XWR-1750 will support this but they are typically not recommended by some client device manufacturers.)

4 5-Network Name for 2.4GHz set 11. In order to assign a password, you ll have to select a security mode. We typically recommend WPA2, as it s the strongest security mode available and is compatible with most devices released within the last 5 years. Once you select WPA2 from the drop down menu, two more drop down boxes will appear: Encryption and WPA Passphrase. 6-Security Mode, Encryption, and Passphrase set For Encryption, we typically recommend AES, as it s the strongest encryption type available. As for WPA Passphrase, enter in the password that you would like to use to connect to the access point. It should be at least 8 characters long and can include letters, numbers and special characters.

5 NOTE: You should check with your device manufacturer to see if they require a particular security mode for the device, otherwise it may have issues connecting to the access point.) 12. The Channel setting allows you to choose which channel you want the access point to broadcast on. 6 is the most common channel and should be fine. If you re installing the router in a WIFI dense environment, we recommend using a signal scanning software like InSSIDer v3 or istumbler to find the most open channel available. (See our InSSIDer How To/iStumbler How To.) 13. The next section is the Wireless Settings 5GHz Frequency. You can set this up the exact same as you did with the 2.4Ghz with a few exceptions: 7-5GHz Profile configured Network Name (SSID) can be the same as your 2.4GHz network name but we recommend that you include 5G or similar at the end in order to differentiate the two frequency ranges, for example LuxulXen17505G 153 is the default channel that most other 5GHz wireless routers use. The 5GHz range isn t nearly as crowded as the 2.4GHz range, so leaving it at default should not cause any issues. If you re installing the router in a WIFI dense environment, we recommend using a signal scanning software like InSSIDer v3 or istumbler to find the most open channel available. (See our InSSIDer How To/iStumbler How To.) 14. Click Save. At this point, you can either reboot the wireless router to apply your changes or set up your guest network. You may also set up your guest network at a later time. 15. Scroll back up and click on Guest Network. The center section should load up with two sections:

6 Guest SSID Guest DHCP 16. Under the Guest SSID section, we have the following fields: Enable/Disable SSID Network Name (SSID) SSID Broadcast Security Mode 17. To enable your guest network, you must first enable the Guest SSID. In the dropdown box next to Enable/Disable SSID, select Enabled. 18. The next field is Network Name (SSID). This will be the name of the Guest Network being broadcasted. Typically, it would be something similar to your chosen Network Name with Guest at the end of it. 19. Now we re on the SSID Broadcast field. Typically, you want to keep this as enabled, so that guests can see the network on their wireless devices. 20. Next we recommend setting up a security mode. As mentioned before, we recommend using WPA2. You ll see the Encryption field and WPA Passphrase field pop up. Select AES as the encryption type and fill in the desired passphrase. It should be different from your main SSID and be at least 8 characters long.

7 8-Guest SSID configured 21. The next section is the Guest DHCP section. In this section, you ll see the following fields: Enable DHCP Server DHCP Range Start End Lease Time (Hours) 22. First we recommend leaving the DHCP server enabled. This will allow devices connecting to the guest network to pull an IP Address automatically so that they will have communication with the router. 23. Next are the DHCP Range fields. In most cases you will leave this alone, it is set to 100 usable IP addresses. If more than 100 IP Addresses are needed this range can be increased. 24. And finally, the Lease Time (hours). This is how long a device will keep the IP address. The default value will usually work well in most environments, however if you are in a high turn-over environment like a café, hotel, or restaurant it would be best to decrease this setting to 1-2 hours.

8 9-Guest DHCP settings left as is. 25. After you ve set up your Guest Network, you may now click Save to save the settings. It will inform you that the changes have been saved and that you must reboot for them to take effect. Go ahead and click Reboot. SUMMARY You are now finished with the basic configuration of your XWR-1750.
