Yur Spnsrship Card This card is ne f the mst straight frward tls t use t raise funds, s here are sme tips: make sure the first persn t sign yur card gives yu a reasnably large amunt f mney. Others ften fllw their example, s select yur first dnrs carefully. keep yur spnsrship card with yu at all times, if necessary have several cards n the g at nce ne at hme, ne at wrk, ne in the car and even ne up n yur canteen ntice bard. yu re always guaranteed supprt frm yur family and friends s be sure t ask. enlist family and friends t help yu help recruit ptential spnsrs. Yur Wrk Place Lcal cmpanies, r even yur wn place f wrk, may be able t help yu with yur fundraising in a number f ways. a cmpany may want t spnsr yu. It can help them raise their prfile in the cmmunity, bring them gd publicity and allw them t supprt a gd cause. think abut hw many peple wrk in yur building. ONLINE FUNDRAISING This is the easiest way t raise spnsrship fr yur event. Breakthrugh Cancer Research wrks with mycharity.ie, an nline fundraising service. By setting up yur wn nline spnsrship page yu can get the supprt frm yur family and friends all ver the wrld by e-mailing them yur wn persnalised fundraising page. Reasns t use mycharity.ie it s incredibly user friendly. peple can dnate securely, quickly and easily with a credit/ debit card. peple tend t spnsr mre if they are using their debit/ credit card rather than digging deep fr lse change. allws yu t be mre persnal yu can include yur pht, persnal messages, and yu t update yur page at any stage with yur fundraising prgress. it allws yur supprters t leave persnalised messages f supprt and encuragement, that way they ften feel part f yur fundraising. Add yur page s web address t yur email signature. That way, every email yu send raises awareness f yur fundraising and attracts mre dnatins. Once yu ve set up yur page, yu just email yur link t all yur family, friends and clleagues. Helpful Hints fr Yur Event Organising an event can be a lt f fun and an excellent excuse t bring all yur friends and family tgether. But remember the key is thrugh planning. Yu will need t think abut every aspect f yur event. Write a list f everything that needs t be dne befre yur event day. Lk at yur tasks, put them in rder f imprtance and give yurself deadlines fr cmpleting each jb. This will be yur event plan. There are a few ther imprtant things t cnsider: Timing The lnger the run-up, the mre interest yu ll get and the mre mney yu ll have the chance t raise. Budget Hw much d yu intend t spend n yur event? Always aim t raise at least fur times as much as yu need t spend. Ideally, lcal clubs and cmpanies will supprt yur event with prduct r prizes. Publicity It sunds bvius but while yu knw why yu re hlding an event, yur friends and clleagues may nt. If yu tell them, they re likely t be much mre generus and they have the chance t make a difference t cancer research. Vlunteers Many hands make light wrk! Get as many peple as yu can t help ut. Licences and permits If yu re rganising a scial event, think abut licences. These may be needed fr: selling alchl; extended hurs; music and dancing; cpyright and ryalties fr drama perfrmances and film shwings; raffles; and charity cllectins in public places. It s nt difficult fr yu t btain a licence fr any f the abve. Cntact yur Gardai fr infrmatin and advice. Insurance If yur fundraising event is ptentially hazardus, make sure yu have adequate insurance. If yu are wrking with fellw emplyees, cntact yur cmpany s insurance expert t make sure that yu are fully cvered, just in case smene gets hurt. Risk assessment Try and think abut the wrst things that culd happen and wrk ut slutins t them. Cffee Mrning make a list f all the peple yu want t invite t yur cffee mrning. chse a date which gives yu adequate time t prepare and t spread the wrd. invitatins can be sent via email, facebk, text, letter r simply by wrd f muth. apprach a lcal cffee shp r supermarket abut the pssibility in dnating the cffee and maybe sme cakes /biscuits. Sell the idea t them n the basis that yu will be bringing lts f peple and business there fr the evening, especially if it is an therwise quiet evening. spread the wrd as much as pssible that yu are having a charity table quiz and encurage everyne yu knw t get a team f 4 tgether. charge 30-40 fr a team f 4. rganise smebdy t set the questins and t act as MC fr the night. Fcus n a fun night with interesting questins.. rganise vlunteers t crrect questins, mark the screbard and cllect answer sheets. yu can make a lt f mney by hlding a raffle n the night. Ensure yur MC appeals t everyne t buy as many tickets as they can and then hld the raffle at the end f the night. try t get the winning prizes fr the quiz spnsred.

Raffles a raffle can easily be tagged n at anther event (e.g. dinner, pub quiz, sprts event). first f all, btain a permit fr the raffle r lttery as required by law. Get in tuch with yur lcal Garda statin first t check if yu need a permit fr yur type f raffle. a private draw may be a better methd t use if yu prizes are smaller (e.g. bx f chclates / wine / tickets t cncerts). if yu have a large prize it s wrth making the raffle pen t the public. All public raffles require a permit frm the Gardai. There are restrictins n the number f permits issued. charge what the market will bear and take any csts int accunt. Raffle tickets are best sld in grups e.g. 5 fr 5 r rather than singly. The better the prize, the mre yu can charge fr the tickets. all public raffles need tickets printed with sequential numbers. All gd statinary shps will supply bks f raffle tickets in varius clurs. apprach lcal businesses fr dnatin f prize(s). It s gd publicity fr them! When asking businesses fr prizes it is best t have a letter frm Breakthrugh Cancer Research, just let us knw and we can arrange. remember that businesses are ften asked fr prizes and many will have a clear plicy n dnating. T btain a prize, ideally talk t smene in the business wh knws yu r wh may have a relatinship with yu r yur wrk. As shpping centres are cnsidered private prperty, yu dn t need a permit but permissin is required. nrmally shpping centres will nly allw ne charity t cllect n any ne day and the practice f first cme first served applies. fr street cllectins, lcatin is crucial s get there early and find a gd spt. weekends are the best times fr either street r shpping centre cllectins. try and ensure yur cllectin des nt clash with ther lcal r natinal charity events. recruit as many vlunteers as pssible. Everyne wh is taking part in the cllectin will need a cpy f the permit indicating the details f wh authrised the permit, their names and cntact details. cntact Breakthrugh Cancer Research fr prmtinal items (t-shirts / cllectin buckets etc) as well as a letter f authrisatin. limit cllectins t ne day r ne weekend nly. be assertive and gd-humured when cllecting withut being intrusive r a nuisance. remember that sme peple will want t knw smething abut the charity befre dnating s d yur hmewrk and bring alng sme infrmatin if needed. when yu have finished cllecting, return t a safe lcatin befre cunting and bagging yur mney. It is recmmended that yu pen the bx in the presence f anther persn. children under 16 are nt allwed t cllect mney in cllectin bxes.

It s a chance fr yu t tell yur wn stry. Appearing in a lcal paper can als help yu maximise the number f peple wh supprt yu r attend yur event. Befre yu make cntact with anyne, think abut what infrmatin they will want. Wh is rganising the event? What is the event abut r what is happening? Where is the event taking place? When is the event taking place? Why is the event happening what is it fr? Make sure yu give all the imprtant infrmatin first. Press releases need t be interesting, s yu need t grab the jurnalist s attentin quickly. If yu are writing yur wn press release, make sure it s as clear as pssible (typed, dublespaced and spell-checked) and nt t lng.
