.5 Test Nomeclature Overview.5.. Coducted RF Tests Coducted tests are those RF Tests where the test euipmet is coected to the atea coector of the device uder test by co-axial cables. These tests are formulated to measure basic RF performace such as sesitivity ad trasmit power..5.2. Radiated RF Tests Radiated tests are those RF Tests that are carried out i a test eviromet which meets the reuiremets of the CTIA Test Pla []. These iclude Wi-Fi Tx Power (TRP), Wi-Fi Receive Sesitivity (TIS), Wi-Fi Sigle Poit Radiated Measuremets, Radiated Receive Sesitivity of Wi-Fi with cellular active, ad Radiated Receive Sesitivity of the cellular radio(s) with Wi-Fi active..5.3. Desesitizatio Tests Desesitizatio tests measure the impact that the cellular radio, whe trasmittig, has upo W-Fi receptio ad visa-versa. These tests are performed as radiated tests i accordig to Device Testig Cofiguratios..6 Baselie Methodology.6.. Measuremet Techiues ad Test Methodologies TRP ad TIS i cellular mode are defied i both the CTIA Test Pla for Mobile Device Over-the-Air Performace [] ad User Euipmet (UE) / Mobile Statio (MS) Over The Air (OTA) atea performace; Coformace testig (3GPP TS 34.4) [3]. This documet relies o the measuremet techiues ad methodologies withi the CTIA Test Pla[] for Mobile Device Over-the-Air Performace (referred to i this documet hereafter as CTIA Test Pla ) developed specifically for the purposes of measuremet of radiated trasmit power ad sesitivity. The techiues specified i the CTIA Test Pla shall be used as the baselie test methodologies for all tests i here, uless otherwise stated. This documet cotais iformatio to expad the CTIA Test Pla for use with 802. a, b, g ad devices. These sectios are meat to clarify for the user how the CTIA Test Pla ca be utilized for Wi-Fi eabled coverged devices..6.2. Measuremet Ucertaity Refer to CTIA Test Pla Sectio 7 for the ucertaity budget tables for TRP ad TIS. The lab shall report their estimated measuremet ucertaity for both the 2.4 ad 5 GHz bads. However, the criteria i Sectio 7.5 [] are oly reuired for the 2.4 GHz bad..6.3. Miimum Measuremet Distace This sectio describes the miimum measuremet distace, R, which the Far-Field test site shall provide. The measuremet distace is defied as the distace from the ceter of rotatio of the EUT to the phase ceter (alteratively, if ot accurately kow, the earest poit) of the Measuremet Atea. For Cellular miimum measuremet distace, refer to CTIA Test Pla Sectio 3.. For Wi-Fi 2.4 GHz bad, the miimum measuremet distace specificatio specified for Bad 4 shall be used. .6.4. Quiet Zoe Test uecies Quiet zoe test freuecies shall be measured for the followig Wi-Fi bads.. ISM-bad: 2450 MHz ± MHz (sleeve dipole ad loop probe atea) 2. U-NII-bad: 5500 MHz ± MHz (sleeve dipole ad loop probe atea).7 Form Factor Submissio for Self-cotaied Wi-Fi/Mobile Modules The followig two cases are cosidered regardig the atea subsystem optios ad reuired form factor submissio for self-cotaied Wi-Fi/Mobile modules. Also, please refer to Appedix D for Notebook ad Tablet. The test results shall iclude a descriptio ad diagram or photograph of the test coditios used for the device uder test. CASE with Iteral Atea: If the EUT is a self-cotaied Wi-Fi/Mobile Module with iteral ateas, such as a PC Card, the the vedor may choose to Either Supply the EUT together with oe of its iteded host platforms, e.g., a laptop computer. I this case, the combiatio shall the be placed o the turtable ad the results sheet shall clearly state the combiatio that was used i the measuremets. Or Test the Module, o its ow, mouted i a holder that orietates the module i the positio that represets its ormal use. I this case the results sheet shall clearly state that the test did ot iclude a host device. Or Carry out both tests as above. This is the preferred method, but ot madatory. CASE 2 without Iteral Atea: If the EUT is a self-cotaied Wi-Fi/Mobile Module without iteral ateas, such as a mpci Card, the the vedor must supply the complete device, which icludes the ateas, for testig. No idividual module testig is acceptable. Jue 27, 205 Page 0 of 46 Versio 2. Draft

Sectio 2 Test Coditios ad Device Cofiguratio 2. Cellular ad Wi-Fi Modes The test methodology reuires the device be placed i a stadard operatioal mode. This icludes all sesors i the device as well as proximity sesors. If it becomes evidet that EUT thermal protectio mechaisms are prevetig Wi-Fi ad cellular trasmitters from maitaiig full output power durig the course of testig, the test lab shall work with the OEM to idetify a suitable mitigatio method. Although recogizig that the use of special test modes would eable more simplified testig ad the use of formal test euipmet, the test methodology proposed i this documet allows the testig of ay Wi-Fi mobile device i a mode that is as close as possible to its ative operatio. However, the methodology does reuire certai specific behavior of the device so that the test ca be executed. EUT vedors are reuired to supply istructios for the lab to cofigure the devices as specified i this test pla. All Radiated tests shall be made accordig to cofiguratios specified i Device Testig Cofiguratios with the device orieted as specified i Sectio A.. or A..5 (as appropriate) of the CTIA Test Pla [], applicable to the Wi-Fi mode beig tested. 2.2 Wi-Fi Mode The EUT is expected to be able to associate with the WLAN tester ad stay fixed o the same RF chael for the duratio of the test eve whe the WLAN tester sigal appears to be below the sesitivity level of EUT. I this test pla, the PING based method is the primary method for packet geeratio for UL Power measuremet while the ACK based method is the fall back optio if the EUT does ot support the PING method. I the PING based method, the WLAN tester will geerate ICMP echo reuest packets with cofigurable trasmit iterval, payload size ad payload type. The ICMP echo reuest packets are targeted at the EUT's IP stack. The EUT is expected to aswer with a well-defied echo reply packet whose payload is idetical to the payload of the correspodig reuest. For this method to be usable, the device must coform to RFC 792 [5] ad RFC 22 [6] sectio 3.2.2.6. I the ACK based method, the WLAN tester will be trasmittig data frames addressed to the EUT, ad the EUT is expected to be able to respod to all of these data frames with a ACK message. Because 802. ACKs are set i the basic service set (which is i the legacy mode), the 802. ACK will be set at 6 Mbps. However, the lowest data rate for 802. is 6.5 Mbps. Therefore, PING method is the oly method to test the coducted (or radiated) power for the 802. mode of a 802. device. I this method, IP traffic message will force the EUT to aswer ad geerate defied uplik traffic usig a 802. data rate. The followig EUT settigs are reuired to perform the test: Disable sca mode durig testig; scaig for AP/cliet o other chaels must be disabled, If applicable, disable Power Save Mode (Note that the WLAN tester will ot support WMM APSD), If applicable, disable the Bluetooth radio durig tests, Except for the desese testig, the cellular trasmitter i the EUT shall be iactive. Jue 27, 205 Page of 46 Versio 2. Draft

Radiated testig shall be performed o a umodified device usig all active ateas. Coducted tests shall be performed o each atea port with the other atea port(s) properly termiated. If ecessary, a euivalet device maybe modified to provide coducted access to each atea port. For all Wi-Fi RATs, icludig 802., 20 MHz chaels are used. 802. should be cofigured for a log guard iterval. Sectio 3 Coducted Measuremets 3. Wi-Fi Coducted RF Power Output ad Receiver Sesitivity Tests 3... Test Purpose The purpose of this test is to measure the output power level ad receiver sesitivity of the Wi-Fi trasceiver i the device i the coducted mode. 3..2. Test Setup The basic test setup is show i Figure 3-. FIGURE 3-. BLOCK DIAGRAM FOR WI-FI CONDUCTED MEASUREMENT Please ote that Figure 3- is itetioally geeralized to maximize test euipmet desig flexibility. A WLAN tester may iclude receiver ad access poit capability sub modules as well as iterally implemeted atteuators to cotrol trasmit ad receive power to ad from EUT. The EUT shall be provided to the Test Laboratory with the facility to coect directly to the RF test euipmet. This may be via a existig atea coector, or it may be a carefully modified uit to allow such coectio. I the latter case, it is the resposibility of the supplier of the EUT to esure that the coectio is preset ad suitable. It is recommeded that the coducted measuremets be performed iside a shielded eviromet. A referece measuremet shall be made i order to accout for the atteuatio of the cable used for coectig EUT ad WLAN tester, see e.g. Sectio 4.. For more iformatio about possible test setup cofiguratios ad details, refer to Appedix A of CTIA Test Pla for setup illustratios. 3..3. Measuremet uecies ad Data Rates for Coducted tests The measuremets shall be performed o the lowest, middle ad highest chaels supported by the device, i each of the 2.4 GHz ad 5 GHz bads, at all data rates specified i Table 3- ad Table 3-2. Test Procedure for Output Power Level This test procedure defies the basic method for measurig the trasmit power of the EUT. A WLAN tester is used to establish the coectio ad geerate traffic to ad from the EUT. A calibrated WLAN tester or other applicable power measuremet device (e.g. sigal aalyzer) is used to provide traceable power measuremets. With the PING based packet geeratio method used, the WLAN tester will geerate ICMP echo reuest packets with cofigurable trasmit iterval, payload size ad payload type. The ICMP echo reuest packets are targeted at the EUT's IP stack. The EUT is expected to aswer with a well-defied echo reply packet whose payload is idetical to the payload of the correspodig reuest. If ACK based packet geeratio method is used, the power is measured across multiple ACK cotrol frames from the EUT rather tha full data packets. The ACK cotrol frames are set i respose to uicast data packets geerated by the WLAN tester. The measuremet is take across multiple packets ad a mea value calculated. For cliet devices, the tester is typically cofigured as a AP, although the tested may alteratively be cofigured as a o-ap STA operatig i ad-hoc mode to perform the measuremet. The tester shall be cofigured to the chael (freuecy) ad data rate to be tested as specified i Table 3-. Additioal tester settigs may also be eeded to esure that the EUT respods at the target data rate. For access poits ad hotspots, the tester is cofigured as a cliet. I this case, the EUT must typically be cofigured for the chael to be tested. The tester shall be cofigured for the data rate to be tested as specified i Table 3-. Additioal tester settigs may also be eeded to esure that the EUT respods at the target data rate. The EUT shall be cofigured to trasmit at maximum power. To geerate the traffic for power measuremet usig PING based method, the WLAN tester will geerate ICMP echo reuest packets with cofigurable trasmit iterval ad payload size ad payload type as specified i Table 3-3. The reported result is determied from the power measured over the etire payload part of the packet, igorig the preamble ad avoidig the leadig ad fallig edge trasitios i the burst. A miimum of 85% of the payload shall be covered by the measuremet. Jue 27, 205 Page 4 of 46 Versio 2. Draft

To geerate the traffic for power measuremet usig ACK based method, the tester is cofigured to sed UDP packets as specified i Table 3-3. Table 3-3 specifies the size ad payload of the packets to be trasmitted ad the target iterval betwee packets. The trasmitted power of the EUT is measured usig the WLAN tester or other calibrated receiver capable of measurig the average power of the DATA portio of each ACK message. The reported result is determied from the power measured per ACK averaged over the umber of ACKs specified i Table 3-3. Create a table of chael, data rate, ad average power for each measuremet. See Appedix A for recommeded data reportig formats. TABLE 3-3. If the device is capable of respodig reliably to packets at the 0 ms iterval, this time iterval may be decreased. If the device is ot capable of respodig reliably to packets at the 0 ms iterval, this time iterval may be icreased as reuired. Idicate the used iterval size i the test report. Note**: If a device does ot support the reuired packet size, use the maximum supported ad idicate the used packet size i the test report. 3..5. Test Procedure for Receiver Sesitivity This test procedure measures the Wi-Fi receiver sesitivity of the EUT usig the WLAN tester to determie the packet error rate (PER) by coutig the umber of ACK cotrol frames received from the EUT i respose to repeated uicast data packets trasmitted by the WLAN tester. The PER is geerally defied as the ratio of packets lost divided by the umber of packets trasmitted to the EUT. For the purposes of this test pla, the PER is defied at the WLAN tester as the ratio of (Packets Set ACKs Received) / Packets Set, or ( ACKs Received / Packets Set). Receiver Sesitivity measuremets shall be performed usig the calibrated WLAN tester to determie the EUT's receiver sesitivity by reportig the miimum forward-lik power resultig i a Packet Error Rate (PER) of 0% or less with 95% cofidece. The sesitivity is reported as the last passig power level measured withi db of the target sesitivity level. Appedix E. - Wi-Fi-LTE Emulator Test Euipmet Notes whe Testig EUTs that Support LTE Bad 40 or 4 (Iformative) This is a iformative appedix. The iformatio i this appedix is to iform test labs that care must be used with test euipmet whe performig tests with EUTs that support LTE bad 40 or 4. With a icorrect test setup, results may be icorrect because of test euipmet desese. Proper RF isolatio is reuired betwee the cellular ad Wi-Fi emulators. The test diagrams show i this appedix are examples ad variatios of the test setup may differ or may ot be reuired for each test lab. Proper Wi-Fi ad LTE emulator test euipmet setup is reuired for Wi-Fi or cellular desese measuremets for EUTs that support LTE bads 40 or 4. LTE bads 40 ad 4 are ext to the 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi bad with little or o guard bads (see the figures that follow). There is the possibility that the Wi-Fi or LTE emulator would be uable to attach to the EUT whe performig these measuremets due to test euipmet immuity issues. The test lab must isure they are measurig the over the air EUT Wi-Fi or cellular desese ad ot Wi-Fi or LTE emulator test euipmet immuity. FIGURE E- LTE BAND 40 AND WI-FI 2.4 GHZ FREQUENCY DIAGRAM FIGURE E- 2 LTE BAND 4 AND WI-FI 2.4 GHZ FREQUENCY DIAGRAM The test lab ca verify Wi-Fi emulator test euipmet immuity with the example test euipmet diagram i the figure below. RF cavity tued otch ad/or badpass filters are used to esure the EUT is ot desesed by the LTE device ad for the LTE device to stay attached to the LTE emulator due to iterferece from the Wi-Fi. Atteuators ca be used to simulate expected RF levels preset at the Wi-Fi emulator while performig Wi-Fi EUT over the air desese measuremets. Perform sesitivity measuremets with the EUT oly (without LTE bad 40) ad ote results. The attach LTE bad 40 EUT to the LTE emulator (at maximum output power). With the LTE bad 40 EUT attached, re-measure the Wi-Fi EUT. If the Wi-Fi sesitivity measuremets are the same ad Wi-Fi/LTE EUTs Jue 27, 205 Page 4 of 46 Versio 2. Draft

remai attached, the Wi-Fi emulator is immue to the adjacet chael iterferece. LTE base statio emulator test euipmet immuity ca be verified by exchagig the positios of the emulators, RF filters ad EUTs i the diagram. FIGURE E- 3 WI-FI EMULATOR TEST EQUIPMENT VERIFICATION TEST SETUP (TO TEST THE LTE BASE STATION If the Wi-Fi or LTE emulator does show immuity problems, Figure E-4 diagram shows a example o how to elimiate these problems (use RF filters as eeded). If the lab is usig a RF compressio amplifier for the LTE iput emulator, the RF filter must be istalled after the output of the amplifier. If the device ca stay attached to the LTE emulator, o RF filter is reuired. If the lab is usig a RF preamplifier for the Wi-Fi emulator iput, the RF filter should be coected to the iput of the preamplifier. Care must be used whe tuig the RF filters. If a Wi-Fi badpass RF filter is used, be sure to add its loss ito the system path loss ad remove the filters whe performig Wi-Fi TRP or TIS measuremets.
