Page 1 of 17 1.0 Introduction to the OxySense Portable Series Instrument The OxySense Portable Series Instrument is part of OxySense's line of non-invasive oxygen monitoring and measurement systems and is the oxygen measurement instrument of choice for organizations and individuals who wish to test or evaluate packages and other packaging materials throughout a variety of studies. The stand alone system can be used for non-invasive an invasive measurements in liquid and headspace alike. Page 6 of 17 4.0 Setting Up the OxySense Portable Series Instrument Step 1: Unpack the instrument and all included items. Step 2: Locate the Portable-to-Tablet USB cable. Connect the standard USB connector to the USB port marked Tablet on the Portable and connect the micro-usb connector to the tablet. Portable-to-Tablet USB Connection Step 3: Locate the fiber bundle and temperature sensor connections on the front panel. Insert the metal fiber optic connector into the socket on the front panel. Rotate the fastening nut by hand until snug. IMPORTANT: DO NOT over-tighten. DO NOT use a tool such as a wrench, pliers, or channels locks. Finger-tighten ONLY. Connect the black, 5-pin temperature sensor connector into its appropriate socket. Please note, there is an index notch to assist with proper alignment. A properly aligned connector will slide in easily. After insertion, turn the fastening collar clockwise. Fiber Bundle Assembly Connections
Page 7 of 17 Step 4: Locate the Portable-to-Tablet power cable. Connect the large plug to the Portable and connect the small plug to the tablet. Secure the large plug to the Portable by turning the fastening collar clockwise. Portable-to-Tablet Power Connection Step 5: Connect the AC power cable to the AC/DC transformer. Plug the opposite end of the AC cable in to an AC power outlet (100-240 VAC 50/60 Hz). IMPORTANT: Electronic equipment must be properly shielded and protected from unexpected power events. Consult with your facility s electrical engineer prior to installing and operating equipment. AC Adapter Step 6: Connect 24V Portable Charger to power jack on front of portable. Page 8 of 17 5.0 Powering On the OxySense Portable Series Instrument Please follow these instructions to begin using the OxySense Portable series instrument: IMPORTANT: Remember to charge the Portable and the tablet for 8-10 hours prior to using either device on battery power. Step 1: Open the tablet cover flap on the carrying case. Open Tablet Cover Step 2: Adjust the viewing angle of the tablet inserting the edge of the tablet stand under the upper stand grip. Tablet Viewing Angle Step 3: Turn on the Portable by pressing the power button. Allow the instrument to warm up for 30 minutes prior to use. Power Button
Page 9 of 17 Step 4: Turn on the tablet by pressing the tablet power button located on the lefthand side of the tablet. Tablet Power Button Step 5: The tablet will boot to Microsoft Windows. The Gen III software will launch automatically. OxySense Gen III Startup Screen Step 6: Perform the first step of a background correction by following the on-screen instructions: Please point the Pen away from the OxyDot and click capture Hold the reading pen at waist level, point the tip of the pen toward the floor, and press the capture button on the pen. Page 10 of 17 Step 7: Perform the second step of a background correction by following the onscreen instructions: Please point the Pen at the OxyDot and click capture Hold the pen up to an OxyDot and press the capture button. Page 11 of 17 Step 9: Make sure to enter the calibration numbers for your OxyDots before taking more measurements. Click on the Calibration tab and enter the da and db values found on the packet of OxyDots. Click OK when done. IMPORTANT: Be aware of decimal places and minus (-) signs. Page 12 of 17 6.0 Carrying Case Tips The carrying case features an adjustable shoulder strap. The shoulder strap may be shortened or lengthened for comfort. It is recommended that you adjust the strap so that OxySense Portable is resting at waist level. When carrying the portable you may stand the tablet at a 90 angle so that it is perpendicular to your waistline.
Page 13 of 17 When the tablet is standing perpendicular to your waistline, you can easily view captured data, create and open data log files, etc. For your convenience, a reading pen holster comes with the carrying case. This allows you to fasten the reading pen to shoulder strap for times when you need two free hands.
Page 14 of 17 7.0 Battery Tips When the Portable s battery is fully charged, the battery level indicator will show 5 bars. When the battery is fully discharged, the battery level indicator will show no bars. While the Portable s battery is charging, one of the bars will flash. When the battery is completely charged, the last bar will flash.
Page 15 of 17 8.0 Touch Screen Tips The on-screen keyboard button is located toward the bottom, left-hand corner of the Gen III software screen. Tapping the button will activate the keyboard. Tap Yes when prompted to launch the keyboard. Use the onscreen keyboard any time you enter information in to the software. Always launch the keyboard FIRST before creating a new test file.
Page 16 of 17 9.0 Accessories Port Tips The Accessories port has been provided to allow you to attach a USB device to the OxySense Portable instrument. Examples of devices that may be connected to the Accessories port are: The antenna for the wireless combination keyboard/touchpad A barcode printer A barcode scanner A USB printer
