Application Note 108 11-Jun-00 SpotCell Automatic Dialer System Overview All SpotCell adaptive repeaters now come equipped with built-in alarming capabilities which have been designed to be compatible with industrial-grade alarm monitoring equipment as well as standalone auto-dialers. This provides immediate SpotCell alarm notification to remote users using a regular telephone line. The alarming interface consists of a solidstate, low voltage, optically isolated, form 'B' type contacts (i.e., normally closed / open on alarm). The form 'B' fail-safe type configuration enables alarms to be tripped in case of power failure in addition to fault conditions. The following outlines the general steps required to configure the SpotCell automatic dialer system. This is followed by appendices describing specific automatic dialer systems. Figure 1- Auto Dialer Connection Diagram Configuration requires connection from the SpotCell coverage unit (CU) to the auto dialer and from the auto dialer to the telephone wall jack. Required Cables 1. RJ5 to wire cable (CU to auto dialer connection) Note: The two wires are 5 and 6 of the RJ- 5 cable (figure ) Figure - RJ-5 cable. RJ11 cable (auto dialer to telephone jack connection) Connection Details 1. Connect the RJ5 cable to the CU.. Connect the wires to the appropriate sensor input channel on the auto dialer. Note: For information on sensor input channels, see specific auto dialer product documentation.. Using the RJ11 cable, make a connection from the Tel IN jack of auto dialer to the wall jack Note: The PSTN connection can also be hardwired; see specific auto dialer product documentation.. Connect power to the auto dialer The auto dialer must now be programmed (see appendices). Once the auto dialer is programmed, an alarm generated by the SpotCell CU will result in the programmed number(s) being dialed. Alarm Conditions The following will produce an alarm condition on the SpotCell CU: Power alarms: power failure, hardware failure. Spectrum alarms: low RSSI, high RSSI and high adjacent signal. 1
