Welcome Welcome to the Trinity Business School s M.Sc prospectus. I am delighted that you are considering studying at this great university. I ve been fortunate to serve on the faculty of Trinity Business School for close on 30 years, and it is a wonderful place to work and study. The School has earned its reputation through continuous renewal of its curriculum, small class sizes, research-active faculty, and a student-centred educational philosophy. Add to this, the diversity of the Business School s student population - only available at a university-based business school and you get some idea as to why Trinity College is such a wonderful institution at which to take your masters degree. The Finance and International Management programmes are designed as specialist programmes for graduates in business and closely related cognate disciplines. The Masters in Business and Management is designed for graduates from non-business backgrounds. We believe that structure, content, rigour of these programmes are unique in Irish postgraduate business education more of which in the pages that follow. As you may have learned, Trinity s Business School is on the cusp of a major expansion. An iconic new business school, made possible through the generosity of the School s alumni and friends, will open on campus in 2017. The School was formed in 1925 as the School of Commerce and transformed into the School of Business in the sixties. We have been tailoring our courses to the dynamics of global business the MSc in Finance was launched in 2008, it is accredited by the Chartered Financial Analyst Institute (CFA); the Professional Risk Managers International Organisation (PRMIA); and the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) Association. The MSc in International Management was launched in 2009, and the MSc in Business and Management course was introduced in 2010. Structure at a glance To give you a solid grounding in the practices and principles of business and management, you undertake a research project and 12 modules across 2 semesters, 9 modules are core and 3 are optional allowing you to tailor your learning to your area of interest. If you have a degree in business or a related discipline and would like to lead and manage in business environments experiencing increasing cultural diversity, institutional integration and globalization, this is the programme for you. What makes it different? There are a number of elements that set this programme apart. Focusing on personal as well as professional development, we will encourage and support you in developing your personal management skills. An international residency week at the end of the programme provides a unique opportunity for you to reflect on the psychology of working in cross-cultural teams, and apply that knowledge in a completely new environment. The MSc in International Management also features a specialist research project which necessitates the assimilation of all you have learned throughout the programme to deliver a real-world piece of business analysis. Tailoring your MSc in International Management programme You can tailor your MSc in International Management to your academic strengths and particular areas of interest by choosing one of the following concentrations: Social Entrepreneurship Marketing International Finance - This concentration is designed for those who have an interest in the social innovation and not-for-profit sector. - It helps develop skills to understand and manage organizations with global reach in a world where boundaries between industry sectors and organization types have become increasingly blurred regarding profit and the public good; between organizations seeking to achieve social innovation, sustainability and corporate social responsibility as strategic objectives. - Marketing is at the heat of Internationalization in its ability to reach across boundaries. - This concentration facilitates those who are interested in understanding how to reach and target customers and clients across and around the world. - It spans from the impact of branding to the speed and delivery techniques of the digital approaches to enable the international marketing manager achieve optimal success. - This is designed for those who wish to work as managers and to utilize their specialist financial knowledge in a horizontal managerial role in MNC S or INGO S. - Students will study specialist finance courses alongside the required courses to become an international manager or consultant as opposed to a financial specialist Structure at a glance To achieve the MSc in International Management you must complete a research project as well as undertake a total of 12 taught modules across 2 semesters. 6 modules are core while the remainder are split between your chosen specialization and elective options. Tailoring your MSc in Finance You can tailor your MSc in Finance to your academic strengths and particular areas of interest by choosing one of the following concentrations: Financial Analysis Risk management Energy and Environment - Up to 80% of the material of the CFA exams covered - Emphasis is on understanding the dynamics and drivers of corporate sin industries, from a financial perspective. - Develop in students an understanding of not just how finance works but also how finance is ultimately a business function. - Typical career path of students is into a financial analyst, finance researcher or investment banking position. - Quantitative - Professionally designated, programme partner of Professional Risk Manager International Association. - Orientated towards students with an aptitude and interest in modelling. - Capstone course in Enterprise Risk Management - Holistic approach to enterprise risk - Shows how finance can aid in risk management. - Risk management is the most rapidly expanding area of finance and students who graduate from this stream are very well positioned to transition to employment quite rapidly. - The stream allows candidates to obtain knowledge of how energy products are structured and traded, how to embed sustainability concepts in financial and business contexts, and to interrogate the need for long term finance on both the asset and liabilities side. Careers Career development is a central element of all of our masters programmes at the Trinity Business School. Career Development and Support Career development officer Career support is a constant theme throughout the year. Entry Requirements The following requirements apply to all Trinity Business School Master programmes. A first or upper-second class honours degree from a recognised university (or equivalent) Non-Native English speakers: IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL IBT 90 2 satisfactory references When to apply Our admissions team reviews applications on a rolling basis with priority given to early applications.
