On the pp-up windw which will appear, find EHSMnitr pkg and duble click n it. 5. E-mail headset cntrl bx functins Cntrl bx has 2 buttns ( Micrphne ) and ( Ear ) and headphnes vlume cntrl. The actual functin f each buttn is determined by the sftware driver (EHSMnitr). The vlume cntrl is used t adjust the hardware ludness f the headphnes. It has n influence n the system sftware vlume cntrl. 6. EHSMnitr sftware manual 6.1 Sftware verview 6.1.1 EHSMnitr With EHSMnitr it is pssible using nly ne buttn t recrd file, save it, cnvert t MP3 and even t generate an e-mail message with the recrded file attached r uplad recrd t web server. 6.1.2 LAME MP3 encder MP3 is a frmat fr cmpressed audi strage. MP3 uses psychacustic filters t remve sunds that are inaudible t the human ear, as well as ther methds t cmpress the audi infrmatin. Thus there culd be discernable difference between the riginal and encded audi data (a great depends n the encding parameters). Mdern MP3 encders are very flexible and allw yu t set a lt f parameters, affecting the encding speed and the utput file quality. EHSMnitr uses LAME as default encding engine. LAME is quite fast (encdes faster than real time n a PII-266 at highest quality mde) and prvides a very gd sund quality. Fr mre infrmatin, please visit LAME fficial site at http://www.mp3dev.rg. If fr ne r anther reasn yu d nt like LAME, yu can use any ther MP3 encder that supprts cmmand line interface. See Advanced settings sectin fr details. 6.2 E-mail micrphne recrding 6.2.1 Recrding E-mail headset allws yu t recrd and E-mail sund files by pressing nly ne buttn. The rest (MP3 encding, generating f the emic-message, uplading it t the emic4all server etc.) will be dne fr yu autmatically. Recrding is always first made t a temprary file. Thus, even if the recrding is finished abnrmally (pwer failure, etc.) the recrded data wuld nt be lst (hwever such file wuld nt be recvered autmatically). It is pssible t assign ne f five pre-defined functins t any f the micrphne buttns (since it is assigned, it becmes a functin f E-mail headset). That means that it is even pssible t assign the same functin t the bth E-mail headset buttns. There are tw ways t use the E-mail headset buttns: Hld dwn. Recrding starts right after the buttn is pressed dwn and lasts while the buttn is held pressed. When the buttn is released, recrding stps. Click. Recrding starts after the buttn is pressed and cnsequently released. Recrding stps when the buttn is pressed fr the secnd time. Recrding can be paused and resumed as many times as needed by pressing and releasing the buttn different frm the ne that has started the recrding.

The five pre-defined functins are: Rec. If MP3 recrding ptin is set the recrded file is encded t mp3 file frmat. Rec and Attach. After the recrded file is saved (and encded if necessary), an e-mail message is generated with the recrded file attached. It just remains t specify the recipient and send the message. Rec and save t specified file r MEMO functin. When the recrding is finished, EHSMnitr prmpts yu fr the recrded file name. If specified, the recrded file is encded t mp3 file frmat. Rec and uplad t emic4all server. Encding t mp3 and uplading t the server is being prcessed during the recrding. After the recrding is finished the link t the emic-message n the server is generated and immediately pasted int the windw that had input fcus at the beginning f the recrding. Nte: Rec and uplad functin is available fr the Wav and nrmal quality Mp3 recrdings nly. Nte: Nrmally by default a defined by yu text (prefix) precedes the link t the emic-message. If the prefix text is nt required (which e.g. can be useful if yu intend t insert the link int Excel file r database) push the Shift key just prir t the mment when yu start the recrding. Rec Skype/MSN. Recrds Skype, MSN, Windws Live Messenger r ther VIP sftware vice cnversatins. During the emic installatin Skype and MSN will be autmatically cnfigured fr this functin t wrk. If yu install Skype/MSN after the emic r if yu use a different VIP sftware fr the vice cmmunicatin, make sure that the virtual device named emic Audi Filter 1 (Windws XP) r Line 1 (emic Audi Filter) (Windws Vista) is selected as the input micrphne and the virtual device named emic Audi Filter 2 (Windws XP) r Line 2 (emic Audi Filter) (Windws Vista) is selected as the utput sund device in the settings f the Skype/MSN/VIP sftware. Nte: Rec Skype/MSN functin is available fr Windws XP and Windws Vista nly. Undefined (Unused). The buttn will nt be used by the EHSMnitr sftware. This can be helpful is sme ther sftware uses this buttn. Filter. With this ptin set, befre the emic-functin is executed the selected sund filter will be applied t the recrding. Use Sund editr t edit and create yur wn sund filters. Nte: Filter ptin applies t the currently selected pre-defined functin. Sund editr. With this ptin set, befre the emic-functin is executed the Sund editr will be launched. With the help f the Sund editr yu will be able t listen t yur recrding and edit r amend it if necessary. Nte: Sund editr ptin applies t the currently selected pre-defined functin. MMAB. With this ptin set, every time creating an e-mail with Rec and attach emic-functin yu will be ffered t chse the recipient frm multimedia address bk. Nte: MMAB ptin applies t the currently selected pre-defined functin. Nte fr Windws versin: All settings changes cme int frce nly after the Apply buttn at the bttm f the dialg bx windw is pressed. 6.2.2 Managing recrdings After the recrding has been finished, the recrded file name is saved in the list f all recrded files. EHSMnitr allws t change the file name r lcatin (the file will be renamed and mved if necessary), t delete ne r mre files r t generate an e-mail message with ne r mre previusly recrded files attached. See Recrding manager sectin fr details). 6.3 General settings 6.3.1 One-tuch recrding ptins Save recrded files Specifies the flder where the recrded files will be saved t. Yu can select any existing flder. Wav/Mp3/HQ Wav/HQ Mp3 radi buttn. Yu can als select ne f the fur frmats t save the recrded data. HQ Wav and HQ Mp3 frmats has higher sund quality then Wav and Mp3, but less cmpact file sizes (by a factr f 2 and 1,5 respectively). Frmats are described in the table belw. Table 1. Audi file frmats. Designatr Wav Audi file frmat Wave PCM, 11,025 khz 16bit mn

Any functin culd be assigned t any f the buttns; it is even pssible t assign the same functin t bth buttns. See E-mail micrphne recrding sectin fr details. 6.3.3 Launch at Windws startup (Launch at user lgin) If this ptin is set the EHSMnitr will start autmatically whenever the Windws is started (n user lgn fr Macintsh users). 6.4 Advanced settings 6.4.1 External MP3 encder By default EHSMnitr uses LAME encder t encde t MP3 and the default frmat is CBR 16Kbps, 11025 Hz, 1 channel (mn). If yu wuld like t change frm LAME r if yu want t specify the custm encding parameters, yu can chse any ther encder (here and later - external encder) yu like. There is nly ne requirement: the external encder shuld supprt cmmand line interface, i.e. it shuld be pssible t use it frm the cmmand prmpt. Use External MP3 encder By checking this check bx; yu can make EHSMnitr use any external cmmand-line MP3 encder instead f the default encder. Path t executable Specify the full path t the external encder executable file. Yu can enter the path manually in the edit bx r brwse fr the file. If the invalid path is specified in this field, EHSMnitr will attempt t use its wn encder. If fr sme reasns the built-in encder cannt be used as well, then the file will be saved t the same flder and with the same name but in the wave frmat (and with.wav extensin). S, whatever happens, yur recrding will nt be lst. Additinal parameters Specify any additinal parameters, supprted by the external encder. These parameters are passed directly t the encder exe-file withut any check if the external encder really supprts the specified parameters. Generally, the external encder call string shuld satisfy the fllwing template: <full path t encder> <additinal ptins> <full path t surce file> <full path t destinatin file> Parameters are described in the table belw. Table 1. External MP3 encder parameters. Full path t The full path t the external encder executable file. encder Additinal Any additinal ptins. ptins Full path t Full path t the surce wave file. Supplied by EHSMnitr. User des nt have t care abut this surce file path. Full path t Full path t the destinatin mp3 file. If supplied by EHSMnitr, it is always valid. If this path is surce file supplied by the user, the user is respnsible fr validity f this path. Warning! If encding fails due t the invalid path t the destinatin file, r due t the invalid additinal ptins (nt supprted by encder), the riginal recrded wave file will be deleted. Unless yu are able t supply the crrect external encder parameters, it will nt wrk. In general it is quite enugh t use the LAME encder, supplied with EHSMnitr. 6.4.2 File name frmat fr ne-tuch recrding Names fr the files recrded with ne-tuch recrding are generated autmatically based n the user-defined template. The generated file name lks like this: <Prefix><Randm number>.<extensin> Parameters are described in the table belw. Table 2. File name frmat parameters. Prefix An arbitrary string. This string can t include system characters (such as backspace character, new line character, etc.) and any character frm the fllwing set: < > : " / \. Sme This is the part f the file name, which makes files different frm each ther. This number can be

number Extensin generated in tw ways. Date/Time based the generated number represents date and time when the recrding is finished, using the fllwing template YYYYMMDDhhmmss, where letters "YYYY", "MM", "DD", "hh", "mm", "ss" represent current year, mnth, day, hur, minute and secnd respectively. Enumerated numbers are generated cnsecutively, i.e. the generated number is the least nt used number (there is n file with the same filename), starting frm zer. File extensin. "Wav" r "mp3" depending n the selected file frmat. 6.4.3 Advanced recrding ptins EHSMnitr sets the minimum recrding time. This means, that any recrding, that lasts less than minimum recrding time is discarded. This can be useful t eliminate recrdings caused by accidental EHS buttn pressing. By default the minimum recrding time is 1 secnd. The minimum recrding time can be any number in the range frm 1 t 262144 (3 days 49 minutes 4 secnds). The maximum recrding time is limited nly by the available hard disk space. 6.4.4 Address bk ptins Use multimedia address bk. When this ptin is checked every time creating an e-mail with EHSMnitr using Attach selected files buttn yu will be ffered t chse the recipient frm multimedia address bk.
