The Years 7 10 sectio of the syllabus is desiged to be taught withi the existig NSW idicative time requiremets. Assessmet for learig cotiues to be a essetial compoet of the Sciece K 10 Syllabus. Learig across areas iclude crosscurriculum priorities, geeral capabilities ad other importat learig for all studets. These 13 areas are icorporated i the cotet of each syllabus ad idetified by icos. Teachers may idetify additioal opportuities for studets to lear about these areas. The structure ad may of the features of the curret Sciece syllabus have bee retaied, icludig: objectives ad outcomes cotet orgaised i Stages from Early Stage 1 to Stage 5. WHAT IS SIMILAR? Studets will cotiue to: develop sciece skills, kowledge ad uderstadig through learig experieces set i cotexts that are relevat to studets learig eeds ad iterests explore scietific cocepts through itegratio of cotet across the skills, kowledge ad uderstadig strads develop skills i ad uderstadig of the processes of Workig Scietifically udertake practical experieces for a miimum of 50% of the allocated course time udertake at least oe substatial studet research project i each of Stage 4 ad Stage 5 develop kowledge ad uderstadig about: the ature, developmet, use ad ifluece of sciece scietific cocepts, ideas ad priciples related to the Physical World, Earth ad Space, the Livig World ad the Chemical World. WHAT IS DIFFERENT? The structure of the syllabus has bee simplified. The previous syllabus elemets Prescribed Focus Areas (PFAs) ad Domai have bee replaced by the strads Skills ad Kowledge ad Uderstadig. The skills cotet is specific for each stage. The emphasis o usig sciece iquiry to develop sciece kowledge ad uderstadig SCIENCE YEARS 7 10 GUIDE TO THE NEW NSW SYLLABUS 1

They have icreased opportuities to lear about emergig techologies. The kowledge ad uderstadig strad i each stage itegrates: cotet that describes the ature, developmet, uses ad iflueces of sciece relevat sciece cocepts, ideas ad priciples. Related Life Skills outcomes are icluded with the Stage 4 ad Stage 5 cotet. HOW DOES THE SYLLABUS CATER FOR ALL STUDENTS? The Sciece K 10 Syllabus is iclusive of the learig eeds of all studets. Particular advice about supportig studets with special educatio eeds, gifted ad taleted studets, ad studets learig Eglish as a additioal laguage or dialect is icluded i the syllabus. Studets with special educatio eeds ca access the Sciece K 10 Syllabus outcomes ad cotet i a rage of ways, icludig: uder regular course arragemets with adjustmets to teachig, learig ad/or assessmet experieces.
