Promotioal Projects for NY Agricultural or Food Projects Participats i the Pride of NY Program are eligible to submit proposals to lik advertisig & promotio of their products with the Pride of NY Program Applicats must describe a marketig activity or program that promotes the quality, value or availability of oe or more agricultural or food products to icrease the demad for these products Up to $15,000 is available for each project for costs related to developmet of cooperative advertisig or promotios

Applicats requestig State fudig to coduct plaig projects or for the implemetatio of eligible BMPs must have completed a curret AEM Tier I ivetory ad a AEM Tier II assessmet o all participatig farms. 25% matchig fuds requiremet

15 SARE Grats support producers who wat to try a experimet, trial, or demostratio project o their farm Examples iclude: ew techiques for addig value; a ew crop; a pest-maagemet strategy; or, a method of direct sales.

16 SARE Program Goal: help farmers explore sustaiable ad iovative productio ad marketig practices that are profitable, evirometally soud, ad beeficial to the commuity. Successful proposals defie a problem ad offer iovative solutios. Proposals ca address a broad rage of agricultural productio or marketig issues.

17 SARE Eligible Applicats: You must be a farmer i the Northeast SARE regio. You eed ot be farmig full time, but your operatio must produce a established crop or aimal product that you sell o a regular basis. May commuity-supported farms qualify, but farms where the primary missio is educatioal ormally do ot. Limited to oe applicatio per farm per year.

18 SARE Your project must offer some sort of outreach compoet. Commo outreach mechaisms are field days, demostratios, fact sheets, hadouts, or materials made available to other farmers through a producer etwork. You ca pla to preset your project at a meetig, develop a flyer, or seek media coverage for your project. Your outreach pla should target people who will beefit from kowig about your project, ad should cover as wide a geographical area as possible.

19 SARE Two types of grats: Grass Roots - experimetal ad iovative goal is to help you test ew ideas Farm Trial - support the adoptio of specific practices goal is to field-test productio techiques that have bee previously researched ad gather data about their results ad effectiveess Each uses a differet cover sheet ad arrative format, so make sure you use the right materials.

20 SARE I 2004, Northeast SARE awarded $219,593 to 38 farmers. Awards raged from $1,121 to $10,000, ad the average grat was about $5,800 The cap i 2005 o ay sigle grat will be $10,000. Field Trial grats have a limited budget that is keyed to acreage.

21 SARE FUNDS CAN BE USED TO: Compesate you for your time ad the time your employees work directly o the project Buy materials specific to the project Pay for project-related services like soil testig ad cosultig Support project-related travel Pay for postage, pritig costs, telephoe, ad other outreach expeses Compesate advisors, collaborators, ad other participats Ret equipmet eeded specifically for the project Pay other direct project costs ot explicitly excluded below

23 NYS Office of Parks, Recreatio & Historic Preservatio Bars Restoratio ad Preservatio Program Eligible Structures The structure that is the subject of the applicatio must be a bar, shed, silo, or farm outbuildig that: is i eed of substatial repair; is at least 50 years old (built ad/or placed i service before 1951); listed o or eligible for the Natioal ad State Registers of Historic Places was costructed for storage or shelter of livestock, farm equipmet, or agricultural products.

24 NYS Office of Parks, Recreatio & Historic Preservatio Program Itet The itet of the program is to preserve the historic character ad exted the useful life of historic agricultural buildigs. Proposed project work must be compatible with the historic character of the buildig.

25 NYS Office of Parks, Recreatio & Highest Priority Historic Preservatio Greatest impact upo buildig logevity, such as repair ad restoratio of foudatios, sills, ad framig, ad repair ad replacemet of roofs. Lesser Priority Repairs that protect the bars structural systems ad/or preserve character-givig historic features, such as repairs to sidig, doors, widows, floorig, cupolas, ad architectural details.

26 NYS Office of Parks, Recreatio & Historic Preservatio Not eligible for fudig are: repairs to o-historic features of the buildig; work relatig to coversios to o-agricultural use; work that is icompatible with the historic ature of the buildig, icludig: removig historic buildig fabric, usig o-historic materials such as viyl or plywood, ad movig a buildig off its historic site; ad work that is purely cosmetic.

27 NYS Office of Parks, Recreatio & Historic Preservatio Maximum Grat Award: $25,000 Applicat's Cost Share: Rages from 10% to 50% of total project cost, o a slidig scale accordig to icome Type of Matchig Fuds: The gratee's cost share ca be i the form of cash, i-kid services, or labor.

28 NYSERDA Iovatio i Agriculture Grats Fuds are provided for agriculture iovatio projects ivolvig eergy coservatio or productivity improvemet, which ehace the profitability of agriculture i New York State Up to 50% of the total project cost Projects must develop, demostrate ad commercialize eergy-efficiet products, techologies ad services targeted for use by idustry, icludig: maufacturig, materials processig, food processig, productio agriculture

29 NYSERDA Category A - Early Developmet Proposals (Up to $400,000 available) Proposers should submit uder Category A if they have ot yet developed a commercial prototype. Projects proposed uder Category A would typically iclude tasks such as: proof-of-cocept ivestigatios; bech-scale prototype developmet; commercial prototype desig ad developmet; prelimiary market assessmet; ad busiess pla developmet. NYSERDA will provide up to $75,000, or up to 50% of the total project cost, whichever is less, for selected Category A projects.

30 NYSERDA Category B - Demostratio ad Commercializatio Proposals (Up to $800,000 available) Proposers should submit uder Category B if they have completed most of the tasks listed for Category A, ad are ready to demostrate ad commercialize their product, process or service. Projects proposed uder Category B would typically iclude: performace testig; field demostratios; maufacturability aalysis; cotiued commercial desig developmet; certificatio; developmet of productio system; ad developmet of commercializatio strategies. NYSERDA will provide up to $400,000, or up to 50% of the total project cost, whichever is less, for selected Category B projects. Category B wiers may be required to repay NYSERDA through a royalty agreemet.
